For 24 years, VARs, Solution Providers, technology integrators and IT consultants have turned to CRN first each week for immediate and actionable information.

This has nothing to do with "best of breed" or anything like that. It's purely about MAXIMIZING REVENUE by doing as little as possible.

  12. my $.002 cents on Unrefined "Musician" Gains a Global Audience · · Score: 1

    Decent composer - yes
    Skilled editor - yes
    Musician - no (not yet)

To clarify on the musician point--I consider a 'musician' to be someone who has the ability to play a musical instrument with some sense of fluidity. From what I've seen here, there is no hint of that (that's not to say that he can't, though). However, as I mentioned, he does certainly have a good ear, a sense of rhythm, and a good feel from progression. All of these are essential for someone to compose music, which he is certainly doing. However, a musician would be someone who could also sit down and play it in one go, which he most likely can't do. However, he certainly has a very strong foundation to begin learning to play more than a few instruments, which would put him well on the road to becoming a musician.

Thus "$.10' can be read as 'ten cents', or 'point one oh cents' by the CSR.

You can read it as either 'ten cents' or 'point one oh dollars', not 'point one oh cents' as you claim. This last one is wrong and is the reason for all of the problems. It doesn't help that we have people around here saying "sure, it's perfectly alright to say it" when it is completely and totally wrong.

...and expendable money to buy everything they already bought on DVD...

I'm curious as to the rationale for this argument because I see it mentioned everytime an article on HD is posted. You do realize that nobody is forced to rebuy stuff they already have, right? Sure, some people will, but it's not like our existing DVDs are suddenly obsolete because we upgraded to HD-DVD/BluRay. Going forward, yes, I will buy some new things on HD-DVD. I may even rebuy a movie or two that I already have. All the while, I'll still continue to purchase regular DVDs, depending on the movie and price. All of this is purely my choice and is in no way forced on me. So give up with the "but you have to buy everything again" argument, because it is pathetically weak.
