For those of you confused by the gibberish above, you can solve it by using the key in the subject line. The process involves adding and subtracting each subsequent character value in the key. Since 'm' is the 13th character, you start by adding 13. From there you subtract 15 ('o' is the 15th character), and then you add 15 again. This gives you a final rotation value of 13. You can then apply that to the message to decrypt it.
The description on engadget made it sound like it's more like the media center extenders that are available for Windows machines. There is no local storage in the device--it streams the data from another machine via WiFi. So this more or less rules out the possibility of using it as a DVR. However, as with all things Apple, they'll hopefully get it right with Rev 2.
But perhaps most shocking and sacrilegious: they changed the color of the music note! It is blue now! How could they destroy tradition like that!
The color of the iTunes icon has changed a few times now. IIRC, it turned green with the launch of iTunes for Windows and the ITMS. Now that they're selling movies, it's gone (back to) blue.
The set-top box is looking pretty nice (component and HDMI video output). Makes me wonder if it has the horsepower to decode HD material. If so, then it may work it's way to the top of my wishlist when it's released.
The "getting rid of it" refers to DirecTV's switch from broadcasting HD as MPEG-2 streams (which the HD DirecTiVo supports) to broadcasting HD as MPEG-4 streams (which only DTVs HD DVR supports). If you have an HD DirecTiVo, the HD channels you currently get are the only HD channels you will ever get, even as DirecTV adds more HD programming to their lineup.
If I'm not mistaken, those were double-sided discs--one side for CD, one side for SACD. This is nice because it's all on the same side of the disc, meaning you can still have your nice picture on there. Unless Sony comes up with something similar for BluRay, this is a major plus for HD-DVD as far as I'm concerned. Now keep the dual-format disc prices sane (or don't even offer separate HD and regular DVD options, just offer the single dual-format disc) and I'll eventually join in.
If you consider giving your credit card information to potentially shady overseas organizations "safe" sure it's "safe." Is it any more legal than downloading free? Quite possibly not.
How the hell do judges across this country uphold these cases with such lack of concrete evidence?
Umm, the judges haven't upheld these cases. As far as I know, none of them have ever gone so far as to actually have a judge decide on one. Look at the "trial" section on the linked blog.
Yes, before posting a story the editors should be expected to check every other website out their for possible prior posting. Since they're doing such a great job with checking grammar and spelling in submissions they clearly have enough time for this...
Or I have a better idea, if you come across something interesting that hasn't been posted to slashdot, why don't you submit it?

Ahh, good answer. :)

Hmm. Websense blocks proveyourworth.net because it falls in the 'sex' category. Now I'm really curious about what this riddle is...
Damn screenreaders...
Great! I've been meaning to read up on some musical history.
Your Jedi mind trick clearly worked on someone with mod points.
And George Lucas's competence at that. We're talking about something that's been falling fast for the past 20 years or so...
You're wrong. One of the basic tenets of our democracy is that voting should be anonymous.
...but why could it not have been at least an anamorphic rip of the original trilogy on these new discs?
Because that would have taken a bit of effort, some time, and some money. Three things that apparently Lucas feels he's in very short supply of...

XFire comes after XPlosion.
You know that gamer's expectations are high when the metric is "probability of suck."

The other big advantage is that I dont need to use the stupid infrared hack to change channels on my cable box.
Which is precisely the reason why the Series 3 has built-in tuners and CableCard support. The Series 3 is your cable box.
Ahhh. I was thinking of the CD/DVD-A discs.
Ahhh, good to know. Obviously, I've never used them...

And not just Tom Cruise either, but a singing Tom Cruise! I can hardly contain myself.
