a personal aircraft that will put jet packs to shame
This is also going to put to shape low-depth colombian cocaine transporting submarines and ones this gets popular with terrorists will give the DHS one more reason to to warrentless searching and nuking of any MEHV's.
That's, of course, unless terrorism and illegal drug trafficking become obsolete...
Deleting data will likely not work for two reasons:
1) Shredding data (and that's what you want to do to reduce chance of recovering) on a hard drive takes time, and it is unlikely Someone Who Isn't You in possession of your laptop/netbook will wait patiently while your drive is being wiped clean, and so have the computer on; additionally you'd need a pretty long battery life to reliably shred even 60GB of space.
2) In case the above were possible, it would need to be done both discretely and effectively, thus requiring the shredder to a) operate on a running OS, b) delete all sensitive data in descending order of priority; which even then would not be 100% reliable.
So, unless your netbook ships with a remote controlled EMP module, your best bet is encryption.
"Description" is also a column (that's 3+1), so if they fix the padding on the first three, they might be able to cram Konqueror and possibly even Safari in there as well.
So by ms standards Opera isn't even a browser. Or maybe they just didn't know how to tame that gaping margin on the right so they could fit a fifth column in there... But I bet now that they have support for CSS (or so they claim) it won't be long until they figure this one out...
This must be one of the most unpopular articles/topics on Slashdot ever! With 32 comments 2,5h later this means that./ers either:
1) know everything about their gastrointestinal health and actually adhere to a well balanced, nutrient-, micro- and macro- element rich diet 3+ times a week,
2) have never heard of the word "diet" and thus pass the article as "Irrelevant"
3) are busy slashdotting Wired's mail servers trying to find out what this chemical actually is, because it's obviously so well forgotten it doesn't appear anywhere in the damn article!
The only real obstacle I guess the technology getting past the Politburo in the the "public domain".
No but seriously, much like there are too many variables already that need to be accounted for when altering a genome for therapeutic purposes, there are just as many outcomes for technologies like this once developed.
And I keep stressing - let's get sustainable agriculture sorted out first...

It would be interesting to know whether the apparent red/blue shifts from galaxy observations could be accounted, or at least affected by this this phenomenon. If the case holds true it could call for a revision of many theories regarding the topology of the Universe, and its ultimate fate.
I wonder if any astrophysicists would have comments against such an assumption.
The World can enjoy uninterrupted reality shows beamed directly from North Korea. I wonder when they will start selling alpha-, beta-, X- and gamma- band receivers around here though.
I'd simply just plant more flowers everywhere - would sure smell better, cost less, and have a real measurable fucking effect on the climate (and the general atmosphere). Happy 8th March, Cisco!
Precisely my point. Sometimes I think that being obvious only aggravates the situation. So getting on the train of change that's quiet, but with momentum should be that the 2.0 of democracy today. Cydia's appstore makes a rather well timed appearance. That, having a special product with a high utility for customers, an excellent manager and a high rate of innovation almost puts it on par with the Worlds top business outlets.
My admiration for Saurik's work. Respect!
How will that help fix the underlying problems, such as inefficient use of energy, lack of consciousness about energy preservation, pollution, etc...?
A more constructive approach would be building a network recording the biggest pollutants, both on individual, regional and international scale, and then using this data to do lots of exciting things like getting the public's opinion on it, thereby pressuring the entities, whether they're factories or those working on deploying alternative energy sources, into working better and seeing who's doing more progress. Competition is a good thing, and even better when put into a useful context.

Not sure about the story behind naming POHMELFS what it is, but "pohmel'e" in Russian means "hangover". You can only guess...

LMAO!
They better have use for this in the next version of Super Mario.

What would Slashdot be if it weren't for the waste...

Do you think the FDA would allow them in?
Sad but true...
