Exactly. What do you think is going to happen when you willingly put yourself in posistion of authority over adolecents. I really don't get why labelling things as "online" makes them new and edgy. Making fun of the teachers is going to happen in middle and high schools. It will/has happen(ed) by whatever means of communication kids use. A teacher claiming she can't work because she got made fun of is like a firefighter complaining he can't work because fires are hot.
Pakistan is generally a pretty tolerant country when it comes to matters involving religion. After all, they elected a woman as PM awhile ago. Musharaf is however a hardline dictator who has the power to greatly improve his country by setting a precedent for stepping down gracefully, but apparently like any other dictator, he's going down swinging. The US in praticular has a way of framing any problem with the middle east as a religious issue. It's a region with a whole hell of a lot of problems, religion being just one of them. I'm not defending any actions taken by their gov't, just trying to understand the situation. While not Arab or the first islamic nation to hold free elections, this situation has the potential to set a lot of progressive reforms on the Middle East.
I think it would be a fun thing to do for whenever I go back home to visit my folks. Get the boots on and go baloon hunting, it's more profitable than coyote pelts.
I like my strategy of having enough people with the same name who are significantly more famous than I make any google search of my name completely useless.
I was wondering the same thing. If you know your data will be copies, why take anything sensitive when it's just as easy to use the tubes.
Unless they're monitering every packet going in and out of the country, which means they really care about what's going on in that call center in Bangalore. The US wants to lead a global economy with the caviat that the Globe= USA, and maybe a bit of Canada, just so long as it's not the Quebecois(sp).
Now you're making the archaic jokes. We switched to eastern all year long a couple years ago. A couple counties in the SW and Chicago area are on central, but everywhere in the state observes DST now. It was amusing having just moved there from out of state watching everyone so confused by an idea so simple as changing clocks.
As a rural guy who only has the option of one DSL line for every few miles, the idea seems really applealing. But the tolerances for staying in phase and frequency per generating plant are way to high to be able to allow that. Despite what is taught in physics classes, AC power out of the wall is nowhere near a perfect sine.
IBM didn't know what they did for awhile. They sold computers, but had outsourced so much that they only owned a cost adding portion of the process. Hence, Lenovo was born. They had a big change of mind and realized that rather than selling to individuals, they could sell consulting and services and other intangibles to corporations for huge markups. I have no problem with inter-corporation megaspending. But from this point of view, open source is a huge advantage for them by drastically lowering their cost to deliver these services.
Tom Friedman is obsessed with how they went from tanking to doing very well without selling hardware anymore.
I think the real difference is how fast everything is happening now. Hundreds of years passed for proper smelting techniques to be distributed, but that had a much more profound effect on the timeline of the species.
Not to sound too much like Friedman, but the real paradigm shift going on now is the slow decline of national gov'ts and the access to everyone else an individual has. But using measure of globalization, we were more globalized in 1900 than right now.
Basically, everyone here (USA) knows that they have to keep their minutes under wraps in both recieving and calling. Basically, it works because everybody does it and it's just the way the system evolved. As far as SMS, it's becoming a lot of the same. It's up to the user to make sure they don't go over the allotment of messages they pay for. I guess it's all part of the personal responsibility culture here.

The Stonecutters hold back the electric car. They do. They do.

Yet one more argument against "unique" names.
About 3/4 of the work done by the average corporate department is useless. Congrats on the efficency, security people.

Damn those Public Universities and their research. Tuition should be sky high to fund these projects!
