While I don't like what they were doing, that is one of the nicest 'remove this link' letter I've seen. Usually they're rather nasty. Props to the lawyer that wrote it.

Amen brother! I love my sennheiser eh2200's. Granted, they retail for $120 or something like that, but amazon did have them for $65.:)
My Big Ten University (U of Wisconsin-Madison) decided to limit the bandwidth to the halls to 40mb/sec, and is using packeteer to limit file sharing programs to use 1/2 of that. The result? Nothing is usable. In effect, bandwidth for http, ftp, pop, etc. is limited to 20mbs. Only 20mb/s for 8000 residents!
Wouldn't it be possible to use the gravity of jupiter or other planets in our solar system to achieve the same effect? Granted, the magnification would be less, but the foci would be a lot closer and more realistic to reach.
Mobile phones really took off once it became established that you pay for _making_ calls and not so much for receiving them
Unless you live on the good 'ol USA. We pay for airtime, it doesn't matter if you call out or recieve a call. Personally, I prefer that to having the caller pay a surcharge for calling a cell phone. It's the owner's convenience, not the caller's. Why shouldn't he have to pay for it?
If only we would pay by the minute rather than a fixed monthly charge for X many minutes...
I do believe that you can legally scream obscenities at authorities, just be damned sure that you don't do anything illegal while you're in their sight. While they can't arrest you for talking at them, if you piss them off they'll follow you until you do do something illegal. (No, I don't know this from experience)
However, 802.11b only has a range of about a hundred meters, while the ricochet modems have a range of a couple thousand meters. They are a tad slower, however.
I don't know the extent of the changes, but does anyone know if it would be possible to write a perl script that rewrote scripts for perl6 compatibility?
Now, would you write such a converter in perl5 or 6? Or in Ruby? I can almost smell the irony...
Yeah right! Ban arrows! Sue the arrow companies! We can no longer allow evil arrowhead corporations to put dangerous artifacts in the hands of our children!
In case anyone cares, we pay $50/month for in La Crosse, WI... about halfway between Minneapolis and Chicago.:)
That's for Charter Pipeline (owned by Hight Speed Access Inc.) so I guess I'm a tad off-topic.
I suppose they could match the natural resonance of the hydrogen ions that the sun shoots out (solar wind). I read a few months ago about a group that was designing a system to use hydrogen ions in space propultion by creating an elecromagnetic "sail". Methinks that that would be easier.
Yes, but GAIM has been around for 3 years or so and AOL didn't bother to send them a nice letter until now. I'd say they lost the copyright by not actively defending it. It can even be shown that AOL knew of GAIM's existance 2 years ago when they asked that AOL and the logo be removed from GAIM's website.
If I were a lawyer, I'd take up GAIM's cause.. it seem rather simple.
magazines, websites, software developers, entertainment companies may soon be paying you to pay attention to their creations
Oh dear God, NO!!!
Seriously JonKatz, where exactly did you find such a large rock to live under? Look around... the world in which we live fits your 'prediction' pretty well already, and has for the last 50 years or so.
On a personal note, I've paid attention to your piece since Slashdot told me to.. to whom should I send the bill?
90 is rarely a safe speed, and certainly not for older people or inexperienced teenage drivers.
And as one of the most dangerous things on the highway is when people are moving at wildly different speeds from each other, you have to pick a speed that accomodates all the people you'll be allowing to drive.
Never ridden on the autobahn have you? It's quite normal for people going 180km/h to pass trucks going 80-100km/h. There are 18 year olds and 75 year olds on the same road doing 150km/h. In many areas there are no speed limits, but on more dangerous parts there are.. and the limits vary from area to area. It works quite well and is fairly safe.
However, it's also not easy to get a license in Germany.. about a thousand dollars in classes and something like a 4 hour driving test (I think this differs from state to state).

To my knowledge, none of the origional Apples have been made into a webserver yet. Only a souped-up Lisa.

I'm determined to be the first to do it with a ][e.
The lengths that people will go to, to prove their own stupidity. Amazing.

That's true... and AOL's client has been doing that since, what, 1994?
How? By giving a speech about the poor security of eBooks?
Unfortunately, yes. Read up on the DMCA... you aren't aven allowed to speak about how to break a copyright "protecting" encryption scheme.
So much for free speech, huh?

Maybe these tools are harder to learn at first, but are much more powerful once you know how to use them.
However, Jane Sixpack doesn't really care how powerful the software is, or even how stable it is. All she wants to do is type a letter to her boss.

"because the suspension cable were placed at equal distances"
If that were true, every suspension bridge with parabolic suspenders would collapse.
