  3. Re:Battle for the Mutara Nebula on Movie Composer James Horner Dies In Plane Crash · · Score: 1

The man wrote the score to Star Trek II, which includes the epic Battle for the Mutara Nebula. That alone is enough to get him a mention on Slashdot.

Why is this modded down? This is exactly why this story is here! Have we really lost our nerd culture around here?

  4. Farewell Mr. Horner on Movie Composer James Horner Dies In Plane Crash · · Score: 2

I cannot even begin to measure how much impact this man's work has had on my life. Last night I went through Youtube and found a bunch of sound tracks he did and I just cannot believe how many distinctive themes he has burned into my mind. Listening to some of these I could almost see the movie playing in my mind. Truly iconic work.

    Farewell Mr. Horner.

  7. Re:Non-News on Sony Releasing New 1TB PlayStation 4 In July · · Score: 1

You have to go a lil out of your way to actually get it out to Youtube. Basically what happens is you encounter something funny, so you quickly hit the 'share' button and the PS4 will take the last 10 minutes and save it. If you tell it to stream it'll cancel your game, so instead you bank it until you get a chance to trim it down and upload it later. I suppose that's for the better since if it started uploading it could mess up your ping times.

  8. Re:Non-News on Sony Releasing New 1TB PlayStation 4 In July · · Score: 1

You might be surprised. One of the unexpectedly fun things (for me) with the PS4 is the video recording functionality. They make it very simple to record the videos and post them to Youtube. It makes it easy to fill up the drive, too. I don't plan on upgrading the drive any time soon but I do see how some could find 500 gig insufficient.

  22. Re:True, in a sense... on The Internet of Things Is the Password Killer We've Been Waiting For · · Score: 1

I remember the same sentiment expressed against camera-equipped cell phones. Once people had them in their hands, it turned out the realities of how much pocket-space people actually had played a crucial role. Face facts: One day your friend is going to impress you with a tale of how his fridge told his smartphone while he was at the grocery store that he's out of otter pops. You may not believe that now, but sooner or later your free time will come at a premium and you're going to wish you had all the data about your domicile at your fingertips. Suddenly that five cents will turn into fifty dollars.

Your last hope of being right (right now I mean) lies with Edward Snowden.
