I'm trying to figure out what the DPI would be for a 1280 X 1024 17'' LCD monitor using your formula. It does not seam to be working out for me. I wish manufactures would just put this in their monitor specs. I'm looking for a monitor with about 100 DPI so the fonts are big enough. But I'm afraid 1280 X 1024 17'' is going to be to high.
I carried my Dell laptop in it for a year and a half of non-stop travel through every US state. I highly recomened it. Very sturdy, comforable, and does not look at all like a computer bag. I think it fits all your other requirements very well.
...I could see the justification for the more bandwith intensive parts of AIM being paid for, especially if the bandwith strain on the AOL system increases along with it.
I would guess that the video/audio parts of AIM are sent P2P. So that should not be a very large strain on the AIM servers.
This is THE reason I have not purchased a mac! I travel all year round, not the greatest lifestyle, I know. Therefore I could only consider a laptop as my computer. I have played with the Macs at CompUSA, and Apple Stores. I have come to the conclusion that they are very nice, but would make my computer usage much more frustrating having to use both hands all the time to use contextual menus. I have found that you can click and hold to get most contextual menus, but this is just SLOW.
I would possibly reconsider if the command key was on the right side of the keyboard. That way a right hander like me could use a contextual menu with one hand.
Also, I would buy an iPod if they and Ogg Vorbis support.
If Apple added Ogg Vorbis Support to the iPod and another mouse button to the ibook/powerbook I would order both today.
I listen to Sirius everyday at work for about 4-8 hours a day. Now that I have it, I would say that I would have to quit my job if I ever could not listen to it for some reason. I fly aerial surveying missions, and it can get very boring up there with nothing to do. Now I have a way to have entertainment anywhere in the country, even in the middle of the desert at 12000 feet!!
I have 100 channels to chose from, and have yet to get bored of the 5 or 6 I listen to regularly. I personally think Sirius is much better than XM, mainly for these "streams" as they call them: 2 NPRs, PRI and JamOn. There defiantly is a reason to pay for radio!
At least when one of the apps crash it does not bring down the other. There were a few times with mozilla mail and browser open that I lost a important email because some crazy Flash program crashed the browser and email.
I agree that there is not much speed difference between mozilla and firebird/thunderbird. One thing I like about using firebird/thunderbird is that they run in separate processes. If one crashes or one needs to be restarted for some reason, they do not effect each other. I am also looking forward to the mozilla calendar becoming its own application.
Can you share the names of some of your favorent software that most people don't know about? I'm always interested in finding better ways to do things. Thanks.
I mean jeez, just order your damn powerbook, then head over to just about ANY online retailer and pick up a 3 button scrollwheel intellimouse or something.
I don't think you understand, people buy laptop computers to be mobile. If you are forced to use a external mouse then that makes the computer much harder to use "anywhere".
I always find Timothy's posts a little odd... Why does he call KDE a "Linux desktop" when it runs on many versions of UNIX? And, how is KDE "Unix-friendly" when it is very much a clone of MS Windows?
Why is everyone talking about the music possibilities of satellite radio. I'm looking forward to getting NPR and the BBC. Nether of witch I can get very well here in Florida with analog radio.

The Savvy Traveler is still airing? I thought the show ran out of funding. To bad, it was a great program if it did.

Bob the orca!

What does your .sig do? I ran it and it froze up the computer. I'm just curious.
let me know how it works out...
I thought the Unix underpinnings of OS X would prevent things like the deletion of /tmp.
Good point!! Mod this up!
the page reads:
"...And of course, you can use any three-button USB mouse with X11 for Mac OS X -- plug it in and it just works."
How is 90% a failure rate? 100% of all hard drives are going to fail sometime.

What do you mean WindowMaker does not support the NET WM standard?
I use it all the time.

I think the more interesting Apple stories will be posted on the main page just like some of the BSD stories are.
That would be great if helicopters had ailerons.
I agree, how hard would it be to fix that?
