I have to say, this is one of the best articles, WITH comments I have read on /. in quite some time. There is actually some heart felt feelings going into people's responses and very good arguments about the whole Black/White/Grey thing. kudos to all of you, and why can't we see this kind of passion in more posts?

The company I work for uses pointsec on our laptops. There is integrated login (we use a novell client on winderz) that works just dandy, it does add about 5 seconds to bootup, but there is really no overhead to speak of when using the laptop (IBM T-41) and I am fully with using the encryption. I know someone above mentioned using encryption with Linux, but we don't use Linux on the desktop, we are about 15,000 employees, and use XP on the desktop/laptop with the exception of security guys (ME) we use a second partition or we use whopix or knopix and boot to a cd for pen/vuln testing. What I am trying to say is... I have never noticed any slowdown or issues with using it, and password reset can be handled with a one time pad, or by calling the helpdesk for a password reset.

When someone becomes you, they can do things in your name, not just ruin your credit, but things like commit crimes, etc. That is what worries me, not credit or money.

If Linux were as imbedded into our lives as M$ Products, we would not need the support at all. I use Linux, and not a free version, but I have been using Linux for about 8 years, so I know it well enough to NOT need the support. If I were to install a OEM version of Windows, say I bought it at Fry's Electronics with the new hardware to build my new peecee, I get absolutely NO support, Not on installation, not on any viruses, and for sure not on using it. 2 cents for ya!

This person just happened to write books that influenced several generations, take that away, and you still have a human being who needs some help. What say we declare a national "show some damn humanity" day, hell, we have a "Talk like a Pirate" day. Just for the record, I DO NOT give spare change to bums on the sidewalk, nor do I usually fall for the people who are standing along side traffic with a sign that says "Disabled Vetran, Need Help, God Bless".
