    The issue is that in the beginning we where told that nothing you could buy for "real money" would give you an advantage over non-paying players. Now the currency you get for playing is worth a lot less than it used to be so it's almost impossible to claim that this is still true.

    I still think it's a fun game when I can play ("Error 3" - I'm looking at you) and bought some snazzy clothes and two weapons for my soldier.

    Well you're on slashdot so your anecdotal sample is hardly typical of the world at large.

    My anecdotal sample goes the other way, of the 10 or so wow players I know only one has played another MMO besides wow (everquest).

    And after a number of years (usually one or two) you can find old games in the bargain bin. So you can really end up with a $5 game instead of a $50 game. All you have to do is by an old car, no wait .... not right ... buy older games.

    Except that he's correct. More people do get paid to develop software that fits the definition of Free Software. I believe that's always been the case.

    Every person who works in the IT shop of some company churning out custom solutions for that company is working on Free Software.

    I disagree - and so would market figures. The average age of gamers is rising every year, and now that there are proportionately less youngsters playing games so there is less need for gamers to use games to vent their unconscious rage against their sense of powerlessneness.

    I don't dispute that gamers are getting older. I'll be 40 in a couple of weeks. But I do think you are talking out of your a** when you claim older gamers have less need of killing sprites to let off some steam than younger people.
    It's not like we have less things to be frustrated about (kids (my own), mortage, pension, prostate, hair loss, kids (on lawn), PHB, dog with fleas, price of gas....)

    I agree. My first impression is that it's very fast and slick. But... I was browsing around and enjoying the fast page loads/renderings, when I started to get annoyed. It was all the ads, browsing with adblock for a few years has really spoilt me.
