I'm being serious. True Life is a show that documents the true lives of people you might otherwise not understand or be able to sympathize with. You're really stretching the boundaries of humor if you're trying to make a joke about watching true life on TV. Likewise, the name 'The Real World' is already supposed to be ironic. You're about 22 seasons late to be pointing that out.
MTV does play music; it premieres new music videos and often features upcoming artists that haven't had a large audience while the credits for a show roll, or even feature them in actual advertisement slots such as was the case with Yelle. (There was a weekend where they played short clips of her dancing to her songs during commercial breaks)
Since there's no real audience for a pure music video channel anyway (there's this new invention called 'youtube'), the people at MTV have decided to devote their resources towards tackling relevant issues in society (True Life), encouraging kids to actually do positive things with their lives (Made), and to continue major mainstays of american culture like The Real World.

*woosh* that is the sound of the entire movie going over your head.
The entire book is built off of the brain monster: it is a reference to Starro, the alien starfish that is the first villain the Justice League fights together, and symbolically it represents how Ozymandias's plan is to force the world to band together. It's also the final and most important element of novel, which is the deconstruction of the superhero genre. The octopus punctuates that deconstruction and really says something clear about super heroes: The monster-of-the-week has appeared, and this time there is no last minute batman plan or newly developed superman power that can stop it. All of the heroes are gone. None of the heroes ever were heroes. Not to mention that Ozymandias, the real villain, has shown himself to be as much a part of the game as the others despite his claims to the contrary. His ends-justify-the-means attitude is just as arrogant as the other Watchmen's.
Understanding the octupus is really, really, important in terms of the book's literary value.
Um...[citation needed]? I think it's highly unnecessary to character assassinate people that you have assumed are not good at what they do with no real rhyme or reason.
Why isn't that the place? Why should gamers not be allowed to make that clear? One could want to make sure people who play with him would know that to avoid saying things like 'fag' or 'gay' casually, and to be able to not play with people who will use slurs against him or her.
Why not give users the choice to choose whether they will advertise it publicly and deal with the ramifications or not mention it and just play the game? Saying 'I am atheist' could cause a random bible basher to threaten the user or start a fight, but it isn't banned. Why this particular kind of speech--why is it banned?
Um, you missed the point--institutionalized discrimination is still discrimination, regardless of where it's from. If XBox live wanted to ban all provoking of idiots, they should maybe, you know, do that instead of targetting gay people.
Again, saying that being openly gay on an XBox profile is 'provoking' anyone is just stupid victim blaming.
Do you understand the concept of 'victim blaming'? You're right, we could avoid the issue of people starting fights over other people's sexuality by banning the mention of other sexualities from people's profiles, but why should this policy be enforced across the board? Why can't users choose whether they'd like to closet themselves and avoid conflict or be open?
Also, being gay is not mutually exclusive with being a homophobe--I feel bad that you've convinced yourself that people who make *any mention at all* of their sexuality are giving other gay men and women a bad name.
He's licensing the software; not selling it. In this case they would not necessarily have the right to transfer the license to someone else as they see fit.
Not a good troll, but a nice first attempt. You insult nerds with tron fanzines and Dungeons and Dragons websites, but you know what a CLI is and you know about compiling packages? Although, it was kind of cute.
I think you've got your definition a little off; causation is a relationship observed from an experiment, correlation is a relationship observed from a study.
yep, there is nothing scientifically of note about cloning an animal that is extinct-nothing at all. This research is a waste of time until they can bring back an entire population of the species!!!
No, the funding has been allocated, but not used. There are may coupons that have not been used; the money for those coupons will be reused when the expire to issue new ones.
Because George Bush managed to fuck up the great economy Clinton left him with--because Obama is a visionary and has a fantastic platform. I don't understand your point. If you disagree that Bush is a worse president than Clinton was or Obama will be, then it is probably wiser to keep your mouth shut and let the world think you are intelligent rather than removing all doubt.
How do you know it is not a benign superficial trait? Can you back this up with some research? Yeah, ex-gay materials from outside the scientific and psychology community doesn't count, coincidentally. Yeah, most of the recent studies done scientifically say that it is a natural occurrence. And that it has been shown to occur in over 300 animal species. Please educate yourself before you post.

Right, Rosa Parks shouldn't have tried to keep her bus seat-she could have provoked a fight!
Wait, victims of institutional and corporate discrimination annoy you? Holy crap you need help.

...People still care what Doctorow has to say? He's still around?
For real?

Taxpayers aren't paying for this; the companies who participate in the auction for parts of the wireless spectrum are.

You must be a whole lot of fun at parties.

selling the rights to the electromagnetic spectrum will more than pay for the coupons.

The auctioning of the bandwidth pays for all of this twice over.
He was enumerating the possibilities, not declaring the facts.
And the slashdot tradition of not reading an article continues.
