My 6 year old sony dvd remembers where it left off for the last 6 discs inserted. My cheap as hell car cd player picks up right where I switched off the ignition. Disc players that don't have this feature suck.
Yes. I agree. I also get this problem in gnome/KDE. Windows mouse control is the best I find. You can have it ultra sensitive (1600x1200, move mouse less than an inch to traverse screen) and still easily point to specific pixels on the screen, with no jumping.
I seem to remember somewhere that Windows uses some kind of logarithmic acceleration curve, whereas other implementations or more a case of discrete speeds with thresholds.
Why don't you swap your displays about (physically)? Have the wrap around on the outside edge.
OK you still have to move across 2 desktops, but the menu is now in the middle, plus you can now 'hide' windows off the edge of the middle of the screen and use the edges for those wrap arounds (have the window hanging off, but wait! you can still read what it says by looking at the other screen.)
Because people plumping for a 50,000 GBP base spec car 260 GBP is nothing (the video actually says 230 GBP - did any one watch it?:))
This is a non story anyway... The $600 PS3 - if your spending 600$ a cable isn't gonna upset your bank balance. Since when did consoles come with decent connectors anyway? Here in the UK all the consoles I have bought (Megadrive (Genesis), SNES, N64, Dreamcast, GC, all came with RF connector only, I had to buy the RGB cables separately anyway.
Yet another example of the England Centric BBC. No where in the article does it mention that this bill applies only to England and Wales, and therefore not 'the UK'.
Although there is a motion to pass this is Scotland, this won't be until another 9 months, and the situation is unlikely to end up with a different law in Scotland, however, like many others I See this as a purely kneejerk headline grabbing law and feel Scotland would be better off without this kind of 'pish'

In Quake 3, the physics engine is affected by the frame rate rendered. Something to do with th client/server arrangement and the rounding of fractional data. at certain FPS speeds, (e.g 125fps, 333fps) the player can actually jump higher and longer due to the rounding UP of the movement data.
So for certain games, high framerate is important, but everbody knows 95% of the latest games can be run fine on last years hardware.
huh? My Geforce3 Ti200 works fine with the nvidia drivers in latest ubuntu all automatically configured. Even XGL worked fine in the test releases, but I did follow a simple howto.

This chart gives a good indication of expected speed.
You are right as well in that as well as CPU speed increase the overall system will increase in speed due to newer memory, and I/O etc.
Also, i think the Athlon speed ratings are based on a rating of 1000 being derived from the orginal Athlon 1 GHz processor. I don't know if this still applies today, (i thought it did). The previous poster's method of assuming that the XP+ figures are relative to the Intel chips is misguided.
Shoot me if I'm talking bollocks.
everytime i click the drop down for the first time in a browsing session i have to click it twice as the first time it drops down and immediately goes back up. Extremely annoying. Oh and PDFS are slow... Before 1.53 I had to kill adobe process to get back control of browser, now it just takes about 10 seconds.
True, there is no way to rearrange the bars, but you can re-arrange everything on the bars to a different place. I did this and now my opera looks like a deafult firefox.
nice, since i'm lazt though I set up a New Tab button (right click -> customize toolbar) between go and search box then as I move the mouse over it I click on the new tab button and then into the search bar.
Also handy to click Newtab, then paste an address in and click go.

I always thought Keiro was the best free one as well, so I too am interested in why it is (apparently) out of favour now.

(root) filesystems (hysterical reasons). Hahahahahahah haha hahahahahah hahah (hysterics) Didn't you mean historical?

Well, I prefer it that way.

Ouch, I feel your pain, I bought a 6x SCSI internal in 99 for 170 GBP. Lasted until 2003. Still use the SCSI card though
When I replaced it with a 52X Lite-on CD-RW the first few discs I burned popped out so quick I didn't believe it had burned the data...

Freecycle for the win. It's free everything from paving slabs, laptops, cars, you name it someone is giving it away.
I have a 17MB file on my Mac somewhere and let me tell you, ...

Does anyone have one? Are there any cool hacks for it? (Can I remotely control a linux box, for example?)
I'm thinking Mythtv remote...
OMG LOL!!!!! WTF ROFL!!!111 You posted a message!!!
