see git-stash(1). Does exactly that. shelve current work without committing it. I use it every day when somebody wants a bugfix in the branch I am working on, but can't commit yet.
Orkut is *very* popular in India. Everybody is on Orkut. To most of my friends (and relatives), if you are not on Orkut, then you dont exist. That they are doing the Internet equivalent of running around on the streets naked is lost on them.
