I've been saying this for a while. X has always been a complete pain in the ass for desktop users. It completely invalidates any arguments that Linux is fater than Windows. Sure, command line Linux is faster than Windows, but then so is DOS!
Why would SciFi want to soil itself with Enterprise? If they are going to show Trek, they should at least show the good series, say, TOS, or Deep Space 9, or seasons 4-7 of TNG. But not Enterprise!
Article I Section 8. The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
[...] To declare war, grant letters of marque and reprisal, and make rules concerning captures on land and water;
Where is the Congressional declaration of war? Without that, this "war" is illegal. Not that that stopped us from fighting wars on Grenada, Panama, Vietnam, Korea, Iraq (twice), or anywhere else we decided to go towar with since the end of WWII.
And with all that the poor bastard hauling all that shiny high-tech kit around gets paid so little that his wife and kids often have to resort to food stamps to eat. Then there is the goverment disemboweling the Veterans Administration and continiously lowering a soldier's veteran's benefits and constantly trying to weasel out of covering the after-effects of wartime injuries.
Oh, yes, we treat our Boys and Girls in Green/Blue like they are rare and precious diamonds.
Yes! That's how to fix everything! Starving children? Make farming Open Source! War with Iraq? Make GW Bush Open Source! Can't get laid? Make women Open Source!
First you want a VGA output. Then you'll want a mouse and keyboard! And we all know where that leads! The dead rising from the grave! Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes-- Riots in the streets, dogs and cats living together, people installing Linux on their Xboxes, mass hysteria!
Did I get modded down to zero because this post wasn't funny (well, me complaining about other people swearing is pretty funny), or because some mod has a stick up his ass about my posts in the Iraq war thread?
I can see my post getting modded down if it was off topic, which it wasn't. But I call shennanigans on this.

Iraq is a battle wo don't even have to fight. The "war" isn't about Saddam or teh governemtn of Iraq. It's about the oil. The oil that will pour billions of dollars into the pockets of a select few friends of GW Bush. The rest is smokesscreens and mirrors.
If we were all high and mighty about dangerous and unsavory governments we'd be invading quite a few African nations that are in the middle of genocidal spasms as well as number of other foul and repressive countries. But we're not. We're attacking an oil rich nation with a destroyed infastructure and a decimated army.
Unless I'm playing an invite-only game with friends, I keep my headset unplugged. I have no desire to listen to a bunch of foul-mouthed kids yelling obscenities at each other.
Every time some story like this comes along there are the standard flock of troll wanna-be's who claim that "I was interested in X, but not anymore". It's no more true now than it was then. Cut the shit and be honest. You were never going to buy a Mac in the first place and you know it.
The streets shall run with the blood of the nonbeleivers! You shall put Linux on your Mac! You shall put Linux on your XBox! You shall put Linux on your Mr. Coffee! To not use Linux is to be in league with The Devil!
Hell, I don't know. Linux (well, Unix in general) makes my head hurt.
Agreed. SMTP is simply not up to the task any more. A new protocol needs to be implemented. The problem, of course, is getting it out into teh field. You'd need to force everyone to upgrade. This would mean upgrading the software on every server and in every client. I don't even know if this is possible. SMTP is too deeply entrenched in too many systems.
It's possible that some government fiat could ram this new standard down everyone's throats, but I don't think anyone would be happy with that.
The first large-scale spam was the infamous "Green Card" Usenet spam from the Cantner and Seigel (sp?) "Law Firm" way back in late 1993 or early 1994. The outcry was deafening. They got tossed off of every ISP they could find and were harrassed for weeks, possibly months.
Now I wade through mountains of spam in my favorite Usenet groups (spam is still being sent to dead newsgroups like alt.ensign.wesley.die.die.die for Pete's sake!) and don't even bother trying to get the bastards knocked off their ISPs. Sigh.
I have to wonder if the USian labor force isn't partly to blame by pricing themselves out of the market.
IT worker's setting rates too high? I earn what my employer is willing to pay me. That's teh case for most non-union workers. You take the best paying job you can get, but ultimately it is teh employer who sets the wage you will earn.
I suppose you'll tell me it's my fault that someone broke into my locked garage and stole some of my possessions.
Reboot was a very good show. The animation was pretty close to the cutting edge when it was produced and the writing was very well done. It was a very good children's show.
It seems fitting, in a nerdish way, that he should die at 64. There is a certain symmetry somehow.

Children of Dune was pretty good, IMHO. But, I didn't read the books (I can't stand how long-winded Herbert is, but that's me), however.
Riverworld does look very interesting. I'll be giving that a viewing.
I've participated for the last three years. What did they learn? That I watch about six ours of TV a week.

You do realize that we're talking about script kiddies, right?

People want power. People will lie and steal and murder to get and keep power. Even Americans. And not everyone agrees that the US system is the best.

Is that maggot-eaten sack of whale drek still getting a gazillion pieces of snailmail every day?
