You're thinking of whitehouse.com. Whitehouse.org is a parody site, last time I checked.

I think this is a bad idea. Content owners/producers have a huge control fetish. I could see them going into debt to keep their content, then blaming pirates for their lack of profitability. That, or they would raise prices/lobby for reduced fees. This plan makes it too easy for them to hold onto the copyrights. We want them to enter public domain. It doesn't help us too much for them to keep the stuff out of public domain and pay some organization a fee.

You have to admit that Star Wars is pretty extraordinary, though. For instance, Jurassic Park (the movie) came out 14 years ago. I think that movie has made about all it ever will, despite its success and popularity. It's had time for two sequels. Very little profit will be lost by its entering public domain.

Those settlements where the plaintiffs only get some product with little real monetary value (coupons for PPV, free song downloads, etc.) are ridiculous. They hardly cost the company anything. What then is the incentive to not fuck up again? I'm sure the lawyers filing the class-action suit gets paid in cash, though. They should have to be paid in the same way as the plaintiffs are, so if they all get PPV coupons, they lawyers just get a bunch of them. Perhaps then the lawyers would try harder for a cash settlement.

I'm looking to dual-boot Ubuntu and XP/Vista (for games only). How do I go about setting it up so I can choose an OS at startup? Do both OS's have to be installed on the same hard drive for that to work, and if so, how well does that work these days?
