[computers will have human-level intelligence] There will be smart ones but most will be stupid when connected in groups together, and only perform short time calculations instead of working on a long term plan to raise the quality of all components for everyone
Borgs assimilate, not exterminate. Borgs are the liberal version of Daleks. (I know, flame-war fuel; so be it.)
That'd make an interesting flick: Borg vs. Dalek. If Daleks win, no more Borg; if Borg wins, we get Borleks or Dalborgs or Balorks or Borks. Okay, I admit, the movie idea is borked.
Not really. An OS can be a resource hog and/or manage resources poorly, and thus eat up power. They are dependent. That's one of the areas this Swatch project wants to improve upon.
I should point out that there are probably trade-offs and there may be a decent market and/or niche for power-friendly watches that have fewer app choices/features as a sacrifice. Different consumers want different things.
Apple's and Android-based watches may depend on abstraction layers for cross-product uniformity that a purpose-built OS can probably toss or simplify. Apple and Google could take the same route, but they'd essentially be largely starting over, and thus doing what this Swatch team is doing.
The change in art & music is not just about unauthorized file copying, but also about more choice. Content from amateurs and tinkerers is much easier to access than before, giving people cheaper and free choices.
I myself have put my own amateur music online for people to (hopefully) enjoy without charge. And cat videos etc. compete with professionally produced content. (I don't make cat vids.) This cats into, I mean cuts into revenue options for those struggling to make a living on art, entertainment, and music. If so many entertain for free, why pay?
The most popular acts are still doing well, in part because the fad mechanism makes those "in-style" a scarce resource. Yet another reason the rich get richer while the rest stagnate.
Also, "physical" artists are still doing fairly well, but the Internet also makes it easier to find and get physical art from all over the world, creating a problem similar to business labor outsourcing in higher-wage countries.
If you want to make a living in music, become a bar band. So far they haven't been able to mass outsource those. However, there's a lot of ageism in that biz, especially for females. You don't see many 50 year olds playing in bar bands, with the possible exception of very rural country bars.
Hate speech as typically defined is not useful, and arguably can trigger Adolf 2.0. Calling another culture or religion lazy, stupid, evil, greedy, ugly, smelly, short, fat, tall, greasy, rhythm-free, or whatever rarely ever does anything useful. There are usually better, more targeted and friendlier ways to state constructive criticism if one has a real point.
I'd hate to see "hate cops" that get carried away, but in general nothing of use is lost by banning hate speech.
Slashdot can try it. If it fails after trying a few adjustments, then yank it. Sometimes you don't really know until you try it. Human prediction ability is not very good. If it were, we'd all be rich like Warren Buffett.
Socialism is Communism without a gun, and tends to turn into Communism
I will agree but using a more general rule that ANY system tends to turn into some form of a dictatorship or similar when rocked by enough chaos and distress. A case of slippery slopes can be made for any system, with the end result of the those slippery slopes a very hierarchical political system.
The Great Depression came somewhat close to up-ending our democracy as it did in other countries, and resulted in big changes here also.
Why are the rich still getting richer in our society despite the fact that the majority are not happy with that trend? That appears to be a slipping slope IF we want to look for slippery slopes. (Part of it is that different factions disagree on how to stop the trend, but it could be argued the rich are fanning fractured solutions to keep it from being stopped. They really like their money.)
It thought the mini submarine was merely named "Boaty" and not "Boaty McBoatface". The mini sub is typically hauled around by the main ship that was the original target of the naming campaign
That's double confusing in that it's a submarine, NOT a boat, and second many expected the main ship to have that name.
They blew it big time, the merchandising and tourist revenue on the ship wouldda been yuuuuuge.
The "losers" in the current social networking arena may support it to squash the winners.
For example, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Oracle, and IBM failed to get a foothold. If they work together on such a standard, it could shrink Facebook and Twitter, which they'd be very happy to do because they could gain much of their lost customers by hosting nodes.
The best systems appear to be a mix of socialism and capitalism, although that may depend on your personal view of "good". Science cannot put value judgments on trade-offs, only make probabilistic predictions at best.
Anyhow, I didn't give a value judgement in the list, unless you interpret the intended humor as ridicule, which I suppose is a legitimate possible interpretation, but it was intended as mostly humor and you are welcome to present a list of ACA names such "CommieCare", etc.
By the way, socialism and communism are mostly different things. Socialism mostly describes an economic system while communism mostly describes a political system. But they are imperfect terms and a cleaner classification system would confuse and/or bored readers.
You just automated Washington DC.

Not if you have to charge it almost every day.
...but that's kind of taken.
But I thought using "boat" was just slang. Cool music, though. Reds had some great composers.

The Onion nails it again.
Everybody is different and thinks and work differently. Any "always do X" rule for work or project management should be taken with a grain of salt.
is this spam about spam?
If so, my wife must be a doctor
sssh, the poster deserves to find out the hard way

Why do you ask, you demented pile of mutant putrid infected trash!

That's okay, they can have mine.
All empires/countries eventually end, if that's what you mean. That doesn't tell us anything useful here.
And if that fails?

I didn't know that. I have no recall of anybody using "boat" that way. I guess I don't get out enough.
- Clueless McBasementFace
It resembles the one the Chinese recently intercepted, and then later returned.
If the Chinese capture it, they can rename it, "Finders McKeepersface".

Typo: should be "ACA", not "ADA". Modnays
