I've tried pure Debian (3.0 and 3.1) too, but I forgot to mention (although Debian is a big name, sorry for this slip out). And also after Debian experience, Slackware continues to rock. Unstable is to unstable for me and the current in Slackware is more up to date than testing. Since the purpose of my Linux is not a server, stable has to old packages (qed).

Don't want to troll here, but I've tried dozens of Linux distros, including big names like FC, SuSE, Ubuntu. My system is not very shiny and new, so speed is a big problem. From all, Slackware was the fastest, even faster than FreeBSD 6.1 (and yes, I did tweak the services and other hangs in FC&Co. It's true, I didn't have the guts to try Gentoo yet). I also plan to but some CDs or merchandise, Pat offered me the best Linux experience.
So, you actually spent more than 500$ on Windows, if we consider the time you lost and the license price. Next time, buy the license in advance or just... use Linux...
Mode me offtopic, but I found this offensive.
What's the connection between Romanian criminals in Spain and filesharing?
How many legal mp3 and divx do YOU have at home, mister?
Sheesh, some people...
Exactly. The Cernobyl incident happend because in Soviet Russia nuclear powerplants were build in normal, usual buildings (like a shoe factory, or whatever). When the fire came, the roof of the building just blew up and all the radiation got into the air.
In a Western nuclear facilities, the reactor is held in a building made of thick walls and covered by a dome, kept at a pressure below the atmosferic pressure, to avoid any potential radioactive air leak putside the facility. When such incidents occurs (and it did), they simply evacuate and seal off the building.
Now one complains about Three Mile Island incident nowadays. Why? Because the damn reactor buidling was built with security issues in mind, not like an ordinary Soviet building.
And the Soviets tried to keep the whole thing a secret, until some scientist from Sweeden (!!) (if I'm not mistaken) found out that their air is polluted more that usual.
The problem is that now people think that nuclear energy is a dirty one. It's not like that, the Greenpeace guys are assholes, the nuclear power is the cleanest possbile nowadays. It is much more clean to burn uranium that coal, but who cares?...
And if you don't like what I am saying you can reach me at:
server-never-works@yahoo.com
Wow, can you belive that this ID was still available until a few seconds ago? Now you can reach ME at server_never_works@yahoo.com (you cannot use "-" in a yahoo ID, doh)
And if someone really wants this ID, I may give it away, just let me know:)
No, I was saying about the flag (hopefully NOT moving) and the footsteps. And the rovers from Apollo 17 (and 16?). They must be there, or elese the damn consirationists do have a thing to say.
MPlayer: when you configure the args at compile time to compile the Realplayer codecs it pukes when it reaches them. I belive the problem I was having was that there was no codec avalible for it to download. It also won't compile them by default so you have to set the flag at compile time. Never did get it to work correctly, ditched it.
I always download the 12M all codec pack and put it in/usr/lib/codecs and then compile MPlayer without any special arguments. My.rm files works just fine.
A better NTFS write suppport will be greatly appreciated...

If only they would have a FreeBSD version...

After the storm calms down, prepare for the biggest fund raise in the whole Solar System!

In Romania, same thing happened last week. WTF?
I waited almost a minute for the website with TFA to load, on a P4 3GHz, 1G RAM with 32KB/s internet connection... Will Vista run on my machine?...
Right in the face, go Symantec. Symantec is in da house!
Actually, it doesn't run Linux, as in 'the Linux kernel'. You can run Linux binaries on FreeBSD, but this doesn't means that 'it runs Linux'.
I don't have to told the game producers what I would like to see in a AI character. Surprise me. This is an intellegince all about, after all.

Oh, right, if you don't want a fast application. Here's a newsflash: Java is slow.
Oh, it's *CRIA*... I thought it was *RIAA* :(

An they will *accidentally* crash the probe on the Apollo 11 landing site. Then listen to the conspirationists...

Opera (9 technological preview) have some very nice widgets with slashdot posts.
Oh, but it DOES WORK FOR ME!!! It's just... that simple... This is so cool!
Well, I think WINE is actually in the Beta now, starting from december...
I want an OS running in a browser, (using AJAX?), so that I can access it from anywhere.
