  1. Re:About licences on Liberated Pixel Cup: Art Entries Closed; Code Competition Begins · · Score: 2

If you choose to use the GPL license for art, all further modifications to said art will be done under the GPL License.

If someone were to grab your modified art, they'd have to use the GPL License as well.

On the other hand, CC-By-SA Means that you can use it on a closed-source game, however the art being CC-By-SA Means that your assets (and any modifications you make to them) can be used by other game devs.

Just because the sprites are RPG style doesn't mean you have to write an RPG. You could easily make a TCG (I'm working on one), or a Shmup featuring dragons instead of ships and killing villagers, or a Tactical RPG, or a bomberman-like game.

Point is that the sprites are useful for a lot of genres, you just have to be creative.

I wrote a bit about it on my site, http://k3rnel.net/2011/07/24/starting-the-google-detox-rsslounge/ and in fact have already quit G+ and Buzz and all (And gave them a link to this Slashdot post as the reason for doing so).

Leaving Gmail will be a gigantic pain in the ass, as most of my other online accounts link to that email address, but I'll get over it in the next few weeks.

The popular Greasemonkey Firefox extension (Which I believe is built-in on Google Chrome) lets the end user modify the javascript/css running on the site to the user's desires. There's a huge database on UserScripts.org that lets you browse site-specific mods to Twitter, Facebook and yes, Gmail.

Another very popular extension is "Better GMail 2", which basically packages some greasemonkey scripts into a single extension.

    Uhm, hell no.

In Mexico, we're stuck with overpriced, capped data plans. I went a whole year using less than 100mb a month. You just need to change your habits.
Youtube? Only use it on Wifi. duh.
    Downloading/Upgrading apps and music? Same.

IM and Email? Sure, use it. Using moderate browsing, email and IM, I spend about 3MB per day of 3G data. Everywhere I go, there's an Access Point I can hop into, be it Starbucks, McDonalds, the school or at work (Even piggybacking from a wired laptop using NetworkManager's network sharing thingie).

I recently switched to a 500mb plan and use ~300mb per month.

I'm an android developer, and whenever someone asks me about developing for Android devices, the first thing I tell them is that it may look like java and it might be syntax-compatible, but calling the Android Development Language 'Java' is a huge mistake that'll cost you a couple dozen hours in development time.

CyanogenMod is based on Android's source code. If it's fixed on the "official" HTC/Google Roms, I don't know. But this has happened to me, on CyanogenMod 5.0.8, on the G1. A reboot fixed it.
