They knew they couldn't make a good cake so they just went out and bought a cake from someone who already knew how to make one and then stuck their logo on it and called it theirs.
Of course, we all know programmers can't bake/cook! That's why Pillsbury (Pizza Pops) and Hostess (Twinkies) are very wealthy companies.;-)
As funny as this comment is, it's not in the least bit true. Canada is actually struggling to keep it's population up. Saskatchewan and northern parts of prairies is pretty well empty. Lately there have been studies and our current birth rate is 1.1 per couple. Which is WAY below where it should be.
Although, the part about Poutine is very true. If you don't enjoy it, get the f*ck out of my country.
Last time I was in the USA, I couldn't even find anywhere that offered gravy in a side dish for my fries! Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you people!?
As much as this looks like flamebait, it is all in good fun.:-P
"Sorry, sir, but you need to pay $0.99 to use the washroom."

No thanks!

Or better yet, you could have a biometric finger-scanning keyboard.
Each key will be a finger-print scanner. If you type home-row then match the keystrokes to fingers that are supposed to be used. When you press down on a key, it will take a photo/whatever of your finger and analyze it to a small database at the system[/kernel?] level to see if they match up.
If the finger print doesn't match, keypress is ignored.
You would need some incredibly quick fingerscanners for each key, and it would be VERY pricey. It would also force you to use home-row, too!:-)
Possibly incorportate this into the mouse, as well?... somehow
Yeah... I need sleep. But it's a thought. Would be VERY hard to crack, esspecially at the kernel level. You wouldn't be able to just swap out keyboards.
As a web developer and maintainer of a few online shops, I feel somewhat threatened by these "phishing lists" that are cropping up.
What if, some how, my site[s] were to make it onto the a/all major phishing list[s]? I know it may be unlikely, but it could happen... do the users report these lists? If so, this will be abused a lot!
Is there a way to opt out? If so, is it plainful or painless?
Barebones, browser only, users must install their own extensions. Most geeks will want this one.
For linux users, if you have GTK libs installed [who doesn't?] take a look at Epiphany. It's not for everyone, but it is very simple, gecko-based browser and it Just Works[tm]*
Just for kicks, I feel I must reply to your completely misinformed comment.
And when you see a/. story, you want to jump right to the ranting and complaining, not take time to think about the subject for a few minutes...
So I'm not perfect. You, on the other hand, look at other comments and nit-pick and complain about the ones you don't like.
There, we are even on that one.
I'm sure people had the same complaint about video games when they were introduced. Not to mention FMVs...
There are different kinds of movies being churned out by Hollywood these days. One type you want to sit back and watch... The other, they couldn't possibly make any worse by adding interactivity. Guess which category "Tokyo Drift" falls under...
At least we can agree on something.;-)
When was the last time you had that problem with your HD-DVDs?
DVDs != HD-DVDs
I think you are completely missing the point on my statement. I'm argueing the fact that people don't give a damn about the ads. After reading other comments on this news article, there are quite a few people who seem to have the same opinion. Options never hurt anyone.
Funny. Why aren't you buying VHS tapes then?
Because the cartridges don't fit in my disc player.
But seriously, because a lot of movies are not available on VHS. Not to mention the lack of widescreen, not being able to easily watch them on my computer... and so on.
I hope this helped clear a few things up.
Thank you, come again!
I don't know about anyone else, but when I watcha movie, I like to watch the movie. Not Flashy, buzz-wordy bull crap.
Whenever I purchase a new DVD, before I even watch it, I rip it, strip everything but the main movie, and burn it.
Whoever invented the retarted "feature" to stop you from going directly to the meny during previews is a fucktard. I've only seen it once or twice, but still a complete pain in the ass.
Then we have the people who enjoy placing a tonne of DRM/copy proctection on the discs and just like to piss people like me off who actually buy movies, and want to just have the main movie start playing when the disc in inserted. Not sit through a bunch of warnings, movie previews, and then sit at the goddamn menu until you have to press the play button. I can see sometimes this can be of use, but in more cases than not, I just want to watch TFM[ovie]!
In conclusion, I want better content, not features. Stop waisting your time and money on crap nobody cares about.
</rant>
Sorry. I just had to get that off my chest.
I do the same, mostly just for friends or family, though. I don't believe in forcing a person, or even putting pressure on them. A lot of people are scared of change, and you must respect that. If you carry a laptop, and have linux installed, give them a taste of what they could be using. If they see some features they like, they may concider the change. Do not put pressure on them, it will just scare them off.
So far I've managed to get my girlfriend hooked on all the fancy XGL/Compiz goodness. My younger brother is starting to come around. If we can get Flash 9 [Not the player, the authoring application] to install under WINE, then he'll be sold. If not, I can set him up with VMware and an XP install. At the moment, my girlfriends parents are looking to purchase a new computer. They've consulted with me on where or what to buy, and obviously I have pursuaded them to purchase through me [and in turn I do my hardware shopping online:-)]. They are concidering the use of OSS as they mostly just use it for the internet and music, and that extra $150+ MS tax is just too much.
I cannot agree more. When I first came to linux [2-3 years ago] I started off with SuSE 9.1 Personal. I've always been a fan of command line and command line text editing. I tried after many failed attempts at learning Vim and/or Emacs with no avail.
I have recently switched to Gentoo, and during the installation process the Manual introduced me to nano and I have to say it's the easiest command line editor to learn. I can now ssh into my server and actually do something! I have no issues with Vim or Emacs, but for what I need, nano does the job perfectly.:-)
I'm not sure where you are getting "dual mouse" from. You can use as many fingers as you please and it will register them all as an input device.
:-)
Otherwise I cannot agree more.

Seems Myspace has fixed it. Not that I really care, as I've never used it nor do I have any intention to.
Next!?
GHOST BUSTERS!

* This is my own personal opinion.
What about associative arrays?
;-)
I just tested it under Wine 0.9.21. The install went very smoothly. But launching the application fails on a "page fault" error.
:-)
Note that Wine 0.9.21 is not the lastest version, it may work in newer versions, but there is no guarantee.

What kind of stupid question is that?
Of course I am addicted!
I mean! Fuck! I've said too much!
Where is my tinfoil hat? *runs off*

But what if the user has disabled Javascript? Then this method would be useless, no?
I've never been more ashamed to be a Canadian right now.
What the hell are they thinking!?
Did I miss something there?
;-)
Oh I get it! It's supposed to be GeForce.
... run OS/2?
Joking aside, lately I've been pondering AMD's next move in the everlasting Intel vs. AMD chess game.
I'm here for hoping they can pull ahead again and force Intel to do the same.
Always Remember: competition is good!
I'd like to ask you one thing, how do your pathetic attempts at making me look bad contribute to the topic?
Enough said.
