    Even though this is not really the case, it would be just if it happened as MS has removed many billions of dollars from the European economy through its deceptive and illegal practices.

    A PDF with printing turned off stops you from reading a document how you want to read it. Adobe knows that they cannot legally prevent you from printing a document so they deny you the right to do it in software.

    Fair use gives you some rights over copyrighted material even if the author does not want you to have it. DRM prevents you from exercising your legal rights.

    Apple does not play in a competitive fashion. It works only with customer bases where it has complete lock in. This has nothing to do with support costs or anything else. Apple needs a proprietary DRM so that no one can sell most music for its products and that once sold, their music cannot easily be move to another product. Apple needs lock-in because it is afraid of competition.

    It's really nice to have a workstation I leave on all of the time. I can check email etc. with no wait time. Plus storage capacity etc. is so much easier on a desktop. I have a laptop as well, but at home, the desktop is so much more comfortable to use. On the other hand, it does take up space that could be used for other things. Also, I have a low-power desktop, but most desktops are power hogs.

    I think Intel is trying to sucker AMD into wasting tons of time and money trying to compete in a useless core war. Intel's architecture is behind and it needs to catch up. Intel can probably invest in two parallel development efforts easier than AMD due to it's larger size. If AMD takes the bait, it may be a big mistake. This is similar to the GHz war.

    The US is second only to Great Britain in colonisation. Long term it was more successful as most of it's colonies are now part of the US.
    • A large part of Mexico (Texas, California etc)
    • Took most of the Continental US from Native Americans
    • Perto Rico
    • Phillipines
    • Florida
    • Hawaii
    • etc.
    All of these where very bloody, some of them genocidal.

    It has performed many more colonial actions by direct interference in foreign governments. These actions also lead to very bloody wars and repression. The US is responsable for more non-citizen people killed than any other country except Nazi Germany.

    This is ridiculous. Most of the testing is done on one platform. When it's finished, testing on other platforms is usually not that time consuming.

    more than you think.

    • Travellers who want an ipod.
    • Travellers who forgot theirs and are going on a long trip
    • Travellers who decide that it's time to upgrade or want a spare
    • Last minute gifts

    The average airline passenger is far above average in income and these and also people on vacation are willing to spend a lot more than they usually would. $150 will often seem like not that much in comparison to the ticket. Also a lot of travelers have to wait a long time in an airport with nothing to do.

    An airport is a very secure place to put a machine without worrying about theft.

    If these machines could dispense music to those that already had an ipod, they'd get tons of business.

    That depends. If it relates to current ongoing operations, yes then he should not be writing about them. However, if it is about reasonably distant past operations, then it has no right to stop him. If a government is ashamed about what it has done, then it's time to start acting responsably. Too many things are marked state secrets because the government does not want its own citizens to know what it has done and the types of things it continues to do.

    Anyways, this is about a novel, not a work of non-fiction. So maybe it's about the types of thing that they have done even though it may not be about a specific incident.

    What are you smokin'? Apple needs the DRM to keep their user base locked in. With no proprietary DRM only used by the trio of iTunes, the iPod and the iTunes store, you could buy music anywhere, buy another player, etc. With the iPod, the market is moving towards a monopoly based model. But then, this is the only way Apple knows how to do business.

    This is exactly the case. These corporations wish to control the distribution of all seed stocks. Now a farmer can reuse part of his harvest for seeding the next crop. If GM seeds are used, they will always need to buy new seeds from the manufacturer. Worse, farmers using thier own seed stock which becomes contaminated from nearby GM crops, can end up getting sued for IP violations even though they never used any of the GM seeds. Their product can become illegal to export.

    This is BS. Isreal has working nukes with an accurate ability to deliver them. Iran is not interested in mutual self destruction. If Iran is indeed building nukes, it is in response to American agression in the region. The Bush adminstration has already threatened them and shown it is willing to invade a country for it's own purposes.
