When you face a crisis in a data center, the last thing you need is people running around like headless chickens.
Based on my experience, this is pretty much what customers and upper management expects: During crisis, run around aimlessly so they get the feeling that something happening...Actually hunkering down and fixing things only results in complaints that nothing is happening.
I could be inclined to pay to see certain features implemented into, or have specific bugs fixed in FOSS, but know of no channel(s) for requesting offers for such. Is there any specific ones you can recommend?
I was offered 2 online-banking systems while I still lived in DK. Both turned out to use known-flawed Java 1.1 (or 1.2?) security routines.
When I asked the banks, I was told "We know nothing about this computer thing, try our provider" (scary) When I asked one of the provider, I was told that, yes, they know it is flawed, but if they use anything more secure it will be too much work for people to log in (hint: Windows, at the time, came with the flawed version of Java).
Since then I've flat-out refused to use onlline-banking.
Note: I have found some credit-card issuers offer SMS-authentication (alongside regular passcodes) - not found one that actually manages to send the authentication-codes to my cellphone.
Local Delhaise (Brussels) has bulk-packages of "long play" milk (UHT) and decent selection of regular milk, except on Saturdays. I never really see anyone buying the UHT milk, though I occasionally (once yearly) do just to have some in backup.
Back home (DK), I never saw/noticed UHT milk, except for certain specialty areas (like fishingboats going out for longer periods).
As for bread, I've yet to find proper bread here in Brussels, and it is pretty strange how any bread we buy can last an easy 2 weeks on the kitchen-table before having visible molds. Would bring some with me whenever in Copenhagen, but it doesn't really last very long (gets eaten quickly).
In Belgium I took a slightly different route: I went to a central store of theirs every other day for a while, to complain that the connection didn't work. After a few visits the store employees started recognizing me, and looked positively embarrased every time I showed up. Result: It only took Belgacom ca 1 month to actually fix a connection problem, which I understand to be quite fast for them.
We replaced a 1 DKR coin with a different 1 DKR coin (smaller, less metal, hole in it); After that I met people who refused to receive the new coins, because they "were worth less" due to the reduced amount of metal.
Yes, people will come up with any reason for keeping what they are used to.
(I still don't understand why they haven't reinstituted the death penalty for those people who have falsified Greek government accounting and caused the deaths of a few thousand people. That's mass murder to me.)
Seems to be different types of RAM - the RAM used for the GPU in PS3 was stated as being however insanly expensive... no, not going to dig up articles and whatnut, but if the Console Makers opt to use specialty components for things like RAM, it stands to reason that pricing is not directly comparable to what we buy of-the-shelf for our whitebox PCs.
My Mother in Law, had very limited schooling, but ran a butcher shop all her life. At 67 years, she had no problem at all with Linux, Firefox, Facebook and Skype.
So, you're saying she is used to things that are cut to the bone, leaking all over the place, requires intensive work and in no way end-user friendly?:)
Training and deployment has been in the estimates from Munich from the get-go, and some reports pointed to them being smaller cost-items than anticipated.
You do know that Netflix works very well on that PS3 you use for gaming right?
That would be "works very well for 5% of worlds population", since Netflix is limited to the US and Scandinavia it seems. But yes, since he can use Netflix, he must be someplace where Netflix would also work on his PS3.
Note: I have the Netflix icon on my PS3, and it doesn't work, since I live in the middle of Europe. Truly no idea why Sony decided to put it there... same with SingStar or whatever the heck it is.
Question of quality / user-experience - by having 3rd parties redistribute the package Valve has less control of the distribution and updating, and they risk getting connected to poor experiences caused by the 3rd parties. Also pretty sure Valve's Legal Team would want it that way, simply due to paranoia.
May be largely a non-issue, but as a corporation with legalities and images to uphold, this is how it will be pretty much 100% of the time.
My Windows 7 install (yrch) does this just fine...
Its Samsung, so it is probably misdesigned in some other fashion
(e.g. our Samsung media player cannot play video recorded with our Samsung camera).

Whats wrong with repurposing it?

Better solution: Make EULAs void if presented after money (monies?) has been exchanged.
Works pretty well where I'm from.

Am thinking there must be a funny comment around here refering to the above, Sony and corporate suicide.

Need a few devices that randomly report Bluetooth MAC addresses ...

Already commented, so cannot moderate:
+1 poster is correct
In this European country (Belgium) we don't have long waiting lines or mediocre care.
queues are pretty oki, but I'm not totally impressed with quality.
Lock them in a big room, give each a baseball-bat and see who comes out?

nor are we ******** enough to eat something as tasteless as turkey :)
still need to decide whether it'll be goose or duck+pork this year; guess it'll come down to what can be had at the stores around dec 23rd.
Photorefractive Keratotomy?
Maybe... define your acronyms?
Is a game inside the gaming circles - invent acronyms, preferable already-in-use ones...
So far I've seen GOW change meaning ca every 18 month, no idea what game is the current GOW.

Sorry, what part of
Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass,
made you think Twinkis? :)
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark and it ain't the unions.
As a Dane (person from Denmark) I can inform you that one of the things that are rotten in the state of Denmark, is, in fact, the labour unions...
Was under the impression that pay in Romania is lower than in China (at least for lowest-rung factory employees)
