I implimented rollups in my window manager a few months ago, should I post a slashdot story about it?

See, it's code. You can copy it. You can license it. Developing a really good game doesnt make other games worse, it makes them better. When a good game comes out, everyone buys license to use the game engine and makes more "really spectacular" things.

Am I the only one who doesnt always care about resolution? Sure, some things I want them to look nice, but if I'm catching up on a TV show with 900 episodes, why not cram 24 episodes onto a single disc? (And if I like a particular episode and want to see it in HD, I'll buy it seperately)

Does anyone care about HD? Yeah, of course. Do enough people care about HD that eliminating (or simply never producing) lower-resolution formats makes sense?

as opposed to mirrordot which is less complicated how? You know it's possible for the tracker to also provide the initial seed, right? It's not like mirrordot is capable of handling slashdot's traffic, but using torrents (*maybe with some of that distributed tracker technology I havent read anything about) there would be less actual data being transfered by the server itself.

There is no barrier to automation of snapshots.
There is no need for an extensive network of automated seeds- that's the point of bittorrent- instead of one server trying to send everything, one server tries to send everything to one guy, then sends half to the next guy, then a third to the next guy, then a fourth to the next guy, then a fifth to the next guy. (obviously not as simple as that, but the point remains intact)

lighthearted? The movie was ruined by the characters giving too much of a shit. The great thing about the books is that it doesnt, cosmically speaking, matter if one gets up to go to work tomorrow. In the movie everyone's all whiney about the planet earth being destroyed. The universe is big, really big. Big enough that a planet suddenly blowing up doesnt actually matter that much, and though you'll be peeved when you find out Zaphod may have had something to do with its destruction as part of a vast philosopher conspiracy, once you've experienced a tiny fraction of !earth, the destruction of earth is shrug-offable.

And of course, there wasnt any trying to convince people not to do their jobs (Mr Prosser, the Vogon Gaurd, the Magrothean Gaurds), that's the other light-heartedness: even when people are trying to kill you, or knock your house down, be easy-going enough to try to talk about it instead of fighting about it.
