Hey when I worked in Silicon Valley (1980's)the same practices occurred. I got my first house from the bonus I received when the Teamsters failed at organizing ITT. We were continually told in staff meeting if the union succeeded, production was going to Taiwan, which it did anyway, lol. BTW didn't I read where Nike and Kmart and Apple (forgive me, I know its /.) all were accused of using slave labor in foreign lands? Everyone is doing it ain't a very good excuse, but it's true. I can afford WalMart, and I love their return policy, I once got a LoTr game for my birthday without the cd, took it to WalMart and, without a receipt, got my game. The world is full of evil nasty things, but ya gotta live.

Agreed, any secure job I've worked on I'm surprised they let you leave with the air in your lungs. Cameras, scales, metal detectors, entry through a small cubicle, sealed coffins we called them. Couldn't enter or leave unless a guard several miles away released the coffin, surprised no one died in that. Just speculation here but seeing how it's impossible in my mind to walk out with a server in a secure installation the obvious thought is that this was supposed to happen and whatever was on that server someone wanted either to see or destroy. But then I read too many books. Teleportation of a server seems even harder to believe though.

So Dx10 is being replaced? Who cares? Now you see I got a 8800 gtx with a 22" flat screen, and I don't care, because, Dx10 sucks. I have a system across the room with a 7600 gtx card and the difference between the two is barely noticeable. At first I thought it was me but after seeing some examples online between dx10 and dx9, ya gotta laugh. "You can see the cobblestones so much further in the distance in Dx10" " oh and "look the vines on the wall don't even show up in dx9" Uh huh. I know the programming will get better, at least I hope. Only good news here is I can do all the cool new graphic stuff in Vista!!! That crap didn't even keep the kids interested for the day, lol. Well good news for me is Ubuntu and Mint both work well with my setup.

Well this summer in an English class I wrote a paper in Open Office. Something changed in my header format when opened in whatever MS product the teacher used. Lost some points and joined a group petitioning to allow the use of Open Office. It's just a junior college and you would think this would be a slam dunk. First reccomendation was why didn't I buy the latest MS offering in the Student Store with my Student Discount. Well nobody wanted to listen to my responses to this (But there is a program that will work on everybodies computer and it's FREE!!). So yeah there is a copy of MS office on the other side of this dual boot, and I will use it the next time I write a paper for class. I am so looking forward to the learning curve.

Know just what your talking about, I have a cyberpower usb hub that has never been located right by any Linux distro I've tried, and I've tried a bunch. My biggest problem now is I upgraded for Vista and now when I dual boot into Linux the new stuff ain't recognized. I have a 22'' Samsung monitor that Linux(Ubuntu 7.4) only gives a few choices of resolution, none of which are bearable. My MFC unit made by Brother keeps coming up as a printer, then fax, then a copier, doesn't matter none of them work, except in Vista. Ah well, wish I had the time to spare, to research these problems, but I got a 46 Ford in the garage that I'm doing everything in my power to break 12's in the quarter and just like a good women she demands all my time. Yeah maybe I'm looking for a toaster, but then most of us, I think, really are. Cartman

Yeah OK the whole thing sounded pretty crazy to me but I just went down to put tires on my car at the local Wheel Center. The dealer wanted my name address and phone number even though I was paying cash, " For the Warranty". "Leaving the state" I said so there was no need. So after placing all 4 tires in back of my car, I told him I was getting them mounted somewhere else as I have Mag wheels and could get them mounted free. Again out came the paperwork and the dealer asked me if I was sure that this was the car that the tires were going on, I said yes and the dealer proceeded to try and write down the VIN number of the car. I asked why and he said , since the Firestone fiasco it was the store policy to write down the number of the car and send it to corporate. I then asked him if there was anyway I could just buy tires and leave. Never came up before he said and then yes he let me leave without id but how do I know if he wrote down my license plate or not or got the vin? Paranoid? Yup but I used to sell tire and we never had any restrictions on sale. The guy today sure didn't seem happy not knowing where his tires were going. Then I came home and read this about tracing tires. Now all the dealers responses seemed reasonable but......?
