The problem with trying to stuff augmented reality and VR down our throats this early is that the screen door effect is still very prominent. The only way to get rid of the screen door effect is to provide a 5K resolution display per eye. AR and VR will fail because they tried to bring it out too early.
We are the most advanced nation on the planet and probably even the galaxy. how is it that we can't have a trade surplus against China.. Germany has one and they don't have any tariffs on Chinese goods and in fact Germans per capita buy more Chinese crap than Americans. China buys a lot of manufacturing equipment and high tech stuff from Germany.. so Germany actually has a trade surplus.
WE are ripping off China by buying stuff on credit and having a deficit with them what good are a bunch of I.O.Us to the Chinese? We need to sell them stuff they need to build their infrastructure.. if the Germans can figure it out why can't we?
Low tech jobs are never ever coming back. If you have no skill you are going to be useless in the future. A Chinese is taking your job now, but in 5 years it'll be a robot whose taking your job.
Trump and Crazy Bernie want to put tariffs on trade. OK, so you slap a 40% tariff on Chinese goods. The price of everything goes up 40%, that means reduced sales of stuff. It means some retailers go out of business.. we lose jobs. And no, a 40% tariff isn't bringing back jobs to the US. We can't build factories over night even if it were possible and we would have to ban robots too. The price of things will go up by at least 40% probably more because the retailers will have reduced sales they will have to make up for the revenue shortfall.
LOL good point. They will buy Yahoo and claim Google owes them money because they own a patent and copyright on naming a company after a funny sounding word.
Funny nobody includes themselves in the list of extra population in the world. Usually it's some African in a village using very little resources that is considered a resource burden by someone driving an aluminum and steel SUV typing on a smartphone that uses tantalum capacitors and lithium ion batteries. Karma we can hope for is them getting pulled over for texting and driving.
We aren't even close to what I would call an AI era. We need about a 100 billion (thats billion with a B) times more advanced AI than what we have today for anything even remotely approaching the technology needed for us to be in an AI era.
Why should facial recognition and scanning be illegal? You don't have the right not be recognized in public if you put your picture on the internet for everyone to see. If you have a problem with being recognized, then don't show your face. Wear a ninja outfit (as it is called in Japan) or burka (as it is called in the middle east).
It cannot be made illegal for people to use facial recognition software. I mean, it could be useful to blind people for example. But that aside, if you put your photos in public and you also make your identity known to people.. why can't they use a computer to automate what their brain can do?
Agreed -- surveillance cameras the governments buy nearly always has horrible resolution they get the cheapest cameras (so they can pocket some of the money) because here are no quality standards.
Uh it is the same issue. These unethical and evil trolls know the USPTO is understaffed and rubber stamps patents. They buy overbroad patents that should never have been issued and try to extort money. That's not ethical, sure as hell shouldn't be legal, and certainly doesn't advance the sciences. The US constitution states that the purpose and requirement of patent law is that it advances the sciences or arts.
Shouldn't a company hire the person who is willing to work for the least? They are probably in the most desperate situation. Hiring someone who doesn't really need the job that badly does less to reduce human suffering.
The answer to your question is the same reason YOU don't live on $10 a day and donate the rest to help starving people. You could easily do it. Live less luxuriously.
Nobody cares about making cheap touchscreen displays. You can't manufacture a cheap consumer product out of the raspberry pi because adding a display increases to cost too much.
If non-Indians have no sympathy for Indians (read: do nothing to help), then why should an Indian? Just because you arent from someone's country doesnt mean you cant or shouldn't help does it? You are not a _____ so you won't help a _____? How is that any more ethical than being a _____ and helping a _____?
I am holding out for them to open source Microsoft Bob and Clippy. They were awesome personal assistants, long before the likes of Siri and Google Now. Clippy was especially useful when sending an important letter.
Apple has $305 billion in cash assets. There is no way to blow $300 billion.I mean they could fuck up more than few times and take big risks until they hit a payoff. They could send their whole executive team on a roundtrip to Mars and still have more money left over than Microsoft.
Ok, everyone knows "Eat, Sleep, Code" is a joke. What I find shocking is that somebody thinks it's real. There's probably nobody who does eat sleep code outside of a few bursts lasting at most a few months to a year when working at a startup. I mean, you have to go buy the red bull at some point, right? Anyway, I think it's a good tag line though.
There is a big difference there. I have a right to my land, which I own. I don't have a right to be given a job or handed a means to survive. The only way to get a job is to be useful to someone. Now someone wanting to steal my resources, that's against the law and we don't allow that (unless eminent domain is invoked which entitles me to fair compensation). Whether eventually people will want to steal my stuff is a different issue from "if I am useless to everyone, I won't have a job or food".
Own your own plot of land. Be prepared to defend it, grow your own food in grow boxes. Power it with solar. Then you don't have to be useful to anyone.
Yeah cause governments don't double down on failure and blame something else?

They know that the sum of its parts cost about $200 -- probably less .. so if you can repair it you can probably put one together in entirety for less.

Just what I need, a pop up window that says "CONGRATULATIONS YOU'RE THE 1 MILLIONTH VISITOR WITH PANCREATIC CANCER!"

I will bet that the parent who blames a plastic tube with a speaker for their kids' lack of social graces is also a trump voter.
Linux finally made it to my desk top. Until someone called and I had to pick my phone up.

10 PRINT "Hello world!"
20 GOTO 10
I thought that already worked anywhere.
