This is a setup for telling us we are going to run out of sand. Yes like we will run out of aluminum (which literally the most abundant metal in the Earth surface/crust), or water. All it means is an extra purification step. Without an ideal ore it just means we need to do extra purification steps.. like for example desalinating sea water or building pipelines into desert areas. If we ran out of this quartz we can use sand from somewhere else.. it may cost more in terms of energy to purify it thats all. Use solar or nuclear fusion (eventually) or something.
In principle I am in favor, but will this make us safer? I doubt it. They aren't going to arrest any dangerous criminals with this.. they will waste their time catching people with traffic citations. Think about it, who would YOU rather waste time arresting?
If people are willing to pay $1000 for a smartphone obviously it is providing them more value than the $1000. In other words, they will generate more economic value thanks to having a smartphone than if they didnt have one. The tariffs prevent smartphone ownership and thereby economic and quality of life improvement. You assume that $1000 is worth less than the smartphone, but then you are declarinn your own judgement superior to others.
I hate to be the aliens guy, but if the core is warm enough, could there be a water layer with temperatures possessing microbe or slow metabolizing lifeforms. Not sure if it could be very evolved though. Lack of oxygen gas may be a problem, but then there are substitutes ask the bacteria living on Earths deep sea vents.
Uh, the difference between 2.8GHz and 3GHz is about 7%.. not a lot when you consider the Apple A11, due to its larger die area, scores 15% more than the Qualcomm 845 in all the benchmark tests.
