Well, I apologize for my tone. I was annoyed at a homework assignment I'm working on, so I decided to bark at someone on the internet.
However, you did indicate an inability to understand what direction Mario would move when you pushed "up", and I wanted to point out that his behavior is consistent if you learn to divorce yourself of the notion that "up" on your TV screen is related to "up" in the game world's 3D space.
You don't understand 3D space well enough. Pushing the control stick forward does not mean "Up". It means "Forward". Mario always moves forward in the direction he's facing when you push the control stick forward.
Like I said, my wife gets it, and she doesn't even play games. You need practice. Galaxy is a fabulous game, designed for people that can figure out how directions work without throwing a fit and declaring the game "flawed".
Galaxy is one of the best platformers ever made. It would take a dramatic amount of incompetence to have your progress stunted by the controls, which are fluid and tactile. My wife, who never played video games until this year, is able to play through the game. You seem to be less skilled at games than a woman who has approximately 2 months of total video game experience to her name. Apparently you can only deal with reality if the camera is peering over the top of your head from behind. One of the most fun aspects of Galaxy is dealing with the shifting geometry in 3D space, dodging obstacles and enemies at the same time.
I'm currently playing Super Mario Galaxy. That's an amazingly good game from a series that dates back almost 25 years. I don't care if companies keep making games from awesome series, as long as new series come out as well from time to time.
I hear there is an update coming soon that simulates what its like to disagree with the government in China. It's pretty cool. You install the plugin and a tank will instantly appear and run you over.
You are making erroneous assumptions. I am not a Republican and I am appalled at their spending habits. I wish they would stop acting like democrats and stop trying to spend us into oblivion. The government should either spend and raise taxes, or decrease spending and lower taxes. You can't spend and decrease taxes.
However, I do question people's data, evidence, and premise when they say things like "Everything used to be beautiful happy love cakes until the [INSERT PARTY] Party got elected and started killing puppies and pumping sludge into the happy rivers."
You are arguing that the budget surplus was not harmed by the burst of the.com bubble. Instead of using power words like "bullshit" and "cronies", can you support this claim with some evidence?
Well, Beethoven's 9th has never meant any of those things to me. It means something to me that is unique to my perspective on it. I can't understand the words anyway. I am inspired by the music, and derive my own meaning from it.
We all take our own experiences into and away from a piece of art. It is not reasonable to assert that someone interpreted an artwork "incorrectly".
This is silly. What is art? Is Beethoven's 9th Symphony not art, simply because its meaning is decided upon by the listener and not by predefined plot elements?
If everything had to have a predefined "plot" in which only one thing could happen in order for it to be art, then things would be rather bleak indeed. One of the best things about art is that it can elicit different emotions and ideas from different viewers.
An artwork is some kind of media tapestry (a painting, a story, a play, or a game or device) that causes the participant to receive external stimuli that elicits a reaction that is meaningful in some emotional or intellectual way. I would argue that a magnificently engineered machine is a piece of art, or at least is so in the eyes of some observers. Who here hasn't look at some amazing code and thought it was just downright beautiful?
How can we not feel like victims of artistic inspiration as we read the fundamental theories of science? The artistry of these elements can be found in the elegant thinking of the men who gave birth to the ideas.
If this guy really lives in a world where art must be a novel that goes from point A to point B, then I'd say he's missing an entire universe of art. Art is multi-dimensional and unique to the person perceiving it.
Like all great artists, I did not read the article. I'm willing to take a break from my homework in order to spout off my casual, possibly ill-formed opinions, but not enough of a break to actually read something and check to see if I'm being a moron. =)
Yes some managers stink and need to be fired. However, I had a great boss once who didn't know how to code anything new (he used to program embedded C, but had been out of touch for a decade). What made him a good boss was that he listened to his programmers and took their suggestions seriously. He was highly competent in the areas necessary for good management; organized, focused, motivated, and open to good advice.
Don't fire managers just because they can't code. Fire them if they don't listen, think programmers are annoying, and are generally incompetent.

Brian May is an extremely skilled songwriter. The reason he isn't mentioned in the same breath as Stevie Ray Vaughn, Yngwie Malmsteen, Satriani, Vai, etc... is that he simply does not have the technical skills to stand next to them.
