Every week there's another post about how "X" is going to cause the Internet to come to a grinding halt and cause a meltdown. Yet each day more and more videos are posted on YouTube of kittens riding roombas, and somehow the Internet survives.
Call me when the sky is MEASURABLY and DEMONSTRATIVELY falling.

..that we can get through a SINGLE/. posting without some comment bashing Microsoft or one of its products?? Now, I'm not going to claim that since I started working for Microsoft I think they're awesome (like the Motorola Krave astroturfer), but for Christ sake give it a rest. NO browser is completely compatible to the 'standard' and a REAL designer can code for the two major browsers without much effort - and if he/she can't it's probably time to rethink the design.
Grousing about compatibility or quirks is for sissies. Flame if you like, but the reality of the matter is that browser share is about dead even these days. The mark of an immature designer is made even more obvious with the tags "Best Viewed in..."
So, is this guy all hype with overpriced devices, or is time for someone to take his genius (Segway aside) to the mass market?"
Speaking as someone who has met Dean and worked with him on more than a few FIRST competitions, he's someone who is truly geek and lives to discover and improve things. That skill set isn't necessarily the same skills that would serve marketing and promotions people, and once Dean is set into motion he's a hard cat to stop - something you definitely want in an R&D genius.
At some point, Dean needs to do the market research before the announcement phase but if you spend even a few minutes with the guy, you can see how excited and dedicated he is to wanting to change the world in positive ways. I imagine that when you see the world in that framework, it becomes hard to contain your excitement to the meeting rooms....
Still, for one of the smartest and richest guys I've ever had the pleasure of meeting, he's extremely down to earth. Rare breed.

Since you explained that so well (thanks you) could you please resolve one thing for me? WHY in fact did cloning the ghost cause irreparable and cumulative damage to the original human girl? I never understood that...
..Not to mention that card counting (while *not* illegal) can result in the players ejection depending on where you gamble. In Las Vegas, for instance, casinos are allowed to do this because the casino is private property, and the owner can decide who is allowed to enter.
"After complaints of one-sided posting, slashdot checked their own articles and agreed. Linux was clearly favored, throughout it's years of use, in terms of more favorable articles, less criticism, better subject titles, and total disregard for problems such as lack of drivers." I can hear the mod flames already, but the analogy is just as faulty.
The reason why there was more news about the Obama camp then there was about McCain is simple; they were pretty much saying the same thing over and over. Also, if you delve a bit deeper into the numbers, some of the 'Obama' stories were actually defenses on McCain attacks.
God, McCain lost. Get over it. Use your energies rebuilding *your* party instead of trying to tear down the opposition. (That's what the Dems did after Kerry blew it...)
The software is ALPHA, and to expect them to allow reviewers to install on various untested platforms and then give a fair shake to an ALPHA piece of software is a bit unreasonable.
And BTW, in a single sentence you've impuned an entire company as well as every journalist and reviewer that had access to the demo platform. Couldn't I infer the exact same thing about the readers of/. being primarily *nix fans and saying of course they would be overwhelmingly negative...but that would be painting all/. users with a broad brush.
I'd like to sue the game Dead or Alive. I can no longer perform sexually unless my girlfriend wears tight clothes and high kicks me repeatedly in the groin.
This proves that Microsoft's intimate knowledge of their OS actually inhibits performance of IE and therefore all other Microsoft products.
It "proves" nothing of the sort.
What it *demonstrates* is that the more APIs MS puts into IE to make it the corporate de facto browser (as it is at most places - not all - MOST), the slower the overall performance gets for *everyone* including the those who don't need them.
The question is less "Does anybody still actually use usenet for anything other than the binary groups?" and more "Does anybody still use their ISP's usenet servers for anything?"
I've never used anything other than a premium NNTP service and I use it semi daily for binaries as well as text messages; it is still a viable means of group communications and support.
Weak, weak argument about Joe Bob vs Dr. Electrical Engineer...
I think I would rather have "Joe Bob" with his task appropriate certifcations and experience than a EE PhD, who has spent most of his/her 'career' reading and testing and not *DOING* any actual work. While I might enjoy a conversation with the PhD, I'm not about to let him/her touch a single wire or switch. Why? Because I am hired on a daily basis by MBA's, BA's and PhD's as a consultant to explain to them things that they should already know via basic common sense. I always find it entertaining as I do not possess a single degree, just a thirst for learning, actual experience and the ability to think.
It's bad because most of the people here figure they are entitled to a internet free of any kind of advertising or charges whatsoever, as if it is some geek right.
Which, of course, is wholly ironic because many of us here also work for organizations that either create the bits, move the bits or serve the bits up - and expect to get paid at the end of the week.
...the Chinese invented the art of pyrotechnics. Having them fake the fireworks with CGI is like finding out your American flag was made in Mexico. Pretty ironic if you ask me.
I fail to see where any one here is a 'vocal table layout defender', all I did was provide a reference to a site that explodes some of the myths about tables vs. CSS-P.
If you have competing EVIDENCE (as opposed to conjecture and opinion) please present it to all of us so we can make an educated decision instead of ad hominem attacks and weak analogies..
The OP asked whether tables were 'really that bad', not whether coders who use one method or another are infidels. Geez...get a grip - it's just code. No one is attacking your god.
No, they aren't. And the previous poster who said you are a mong (wtf that is) if you use tables should be forced to prove it.
Decloak did in this wonderful piece and it bears reading. There are a lot of myths about CSS divs vs. tables and this tests them out to a not so predictable conclusion. http://www.decloak.com/Dev/CSSTables/CSS_Tables_01.aspx
And BTW, why do I want my code to be more legible? So someone else can copy it easier?!?! Screw 'em....let them work for it like I did.
If the law says he can't turn a client down (and I don't know the law) he's between a legal rock and a moral hard place. If he can, indeed, turn a client down and he thinks the client is a scuzzball, she should turn him down.
A defense attorney's job is not to like or even believe his/her client. Their job is to defend their client. Period. You don't 'turn them down' any more than you can refuse a patron at your McDonald's job just because he's wearing a "Klingon's Suck" t-shirt.
Promoting what someone else believes is one thing, but promoting what you don't believe is cowardly and dishonest. It's amazing that there are so many Ferengi at slashdot, and so few Klingons.
It's amazing how you confuse what people do for a living and real life. Few people in real life promote things they actively disagree with or don't believe in. You don't see many folks who are pro choice showing up at clinic rally's just because the donuts and coffee are good.
OTOH, there is no requirement for you to swear allegiance to a product or company in order to make a living. If you are a Vegan, then by all means, don't work at Fudruckers. But I have created many a logo and website for products I don't own or wouldn't buy. I've done work for bands I thought were abyssmal, but that's my personal listening taste.
These people are not paying me to be a critic nor are they asking me for an opinion. What they are asking me to do is to show them in their best possible light. I do that and I feel no guilt whatsoever for doing so. In fact, I am quite proud that I do my job well. Why shouldn't I be?
No, I believe that we should let you see the entire movie first, then you pay only if you feel that you got a superior entertainment value for your money.
If you don't, then you should be allowed to sue the studio for the cost of your ticket damages including transportation to and from the theater, popcorn/snacks, and whatever you think that one hour and forty-five minutes of your life is worth.
NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO SEE ANYTHING. Go. Don't go. Read the hundreds of reviews, ask friends, watch interviews. EDUCATE YOURSELF.
In short, take some responsibility for yourself and if you happen to make a bad choice learn from it. Life is not a guarantee. It's an adventure. If you want to remove all risk wait until it comes out to cable.

So then it would be EXACTLY like the movie.

Nope, see 2 Live Crew and Hairy Woman. Lewd speech is protected. ============== Neither of which is a minor...

Remind ME how this differs from a Mainframe...it's "central scrutinizer" control all over again.
So I guess we can expect to see the old Apple "Big Brother" commercial dusted off and the "personal computer revolution" started all over again.
Well if history is going to repeat itself and I'm going to go through puberty all over again, I'm getting laid earlier this time.
