So, "First outbreak of common sense by the Uk government". Its not common sense. They just plan to use a bigger net to catch people with.
In other words, Jacqui Smith's team of control freaks will be able to watch everyone (and then punish) via their much bigger plans to monitor all Internet communications, i.e... http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/12/18/imp_tim_hayward/
"Look this joke is very simple. If it doesn't make sense when you reverse it, you're doing it wrong. If we reverse your joke we get: You operate system."

"I'd bother, because most of *my* tasks are disk I/O bound"
I totally agree. For some tasks its very useful. (If we had memory that was the speed and no write deterioration like it was DRAM, but non-volatile like Flash, then that kind of memory would make this DDR2 based product obsolete, but until that time, its very interesting. Maybe there's hope in time for Memristor based memory, but for now this product does have some advantages).
I was interested in Gigabyte i-RAM but its too limited at only 4Gb.
I have wondered how practical it would be to create an open hardware project like this product, based around FPGA and DDR2 (or maybe DDR3 as that will likely be cheaper within the next I guess about 18 months and taking over from DDR2). Does anyone know of any existing open projects like this?
"What happens if there is a Stalin-like figure in the 1% that gets chosen" and "Furthermore, the lawyers and ambitious would quickly dominate."
The greatest advantage of a Demarchy is no one person can dominate it, (unlike a so called Democracy, which always fails to be a Democracy, because it is dominated by powerful groups). No one can know even just a fraction of that 1%, and its constantly altering, (yet always maintaining the same sampling quantity), so attempting to corrupt it cannot last. Also there would be public outrage if anyone even attempted to suggest it in the media, some way to grab power, so the majority view would crush a Stalin/Hitler like power grab outright and never allow it.
Plus what we have now in most countries, is *two major* opposing power groups, who over the decades oscillate alternatively in and out of power, yet they are all filled with people who all share *the same core goal*, of seeking power over other people, regardless of which party they are in. Therefore over time, they always push towards gaining ever more power over the majority of people. (They always push towards undermining democracy). i.e. Seeking political power is almost by definition, seeking to gain power over someone else, so they can then dictate the rules to others they have power over. So much for fairness. (Never forget, the people in power are allowed to be in power, and chosen to be in power, to help all of us, not put there to dictate to us all, often for their own gain, often at the expense of the majority of us).
Plus I really love the phrase "tyranny of the majority". Its pure FUD. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear,_uncertainty_and_doubt
For a start, a democracy is supposed to be the view of the majority. So anything other than this position, is by definition, therefore highlighting we don't actually have democracy and instead have a bias towards a dictatorship helping to further the goals of a minority of the population. So much for fairness.
"Lastly, how would you organize 1% of the population? That's a staggering amount of people. Where do you hold them? How are that many people supposed to come to a conclusion, without the debate becoming very simple. There's no way even 1% of those people could make a speech to the assembly in the month they are alloted. What happens to the jobs they left behind?"
I did say technology, hence no need to all to be in same place at once!. Plus juries have managed to be used for centuries, so its no different in terms of people giving up their time to do jury service. Plus law trials are most definitely not dumbed down to be very simple, so no need to dumb down anything. Plus a lot of people each year do jury service.
Career politicians are a proxy. They are a proxy for the people they should be representing, as it wasn't possible in the past, to have the votes of everyone on every point needed to be voted on. But with new technology, we can remove the all too often corrupt proxy layer (and save a lot of money as a result) and move us towards a purer more direct form of democracy. Instead of voting for a political middle man proxy, to then allow them to vote for us, we cut out the middle man, and do the voting directly.
If the proxy was truly doing their job, *as they wish us to believe*, then removing the proxy and voting directly wouldn't have any effect at all on the system. But we all know, the system as it currently stands is corrupt, where the rich help the rich and the majority of people struggle to live. That isn't the world the people in power were put into power to create, yet each new group in power maintains this same imbalance at their core (*yet they wish us to believe they are not treating everyone like this*). The people in power seek political power almost by definition, seeking to gain power over someone else, so they can then dictate the rules to others they have power over, in effect, pushing the others
"I propose metagovernment.org [metagovernment.org], for lack of a better form of it"
metagovernment sounds like a very interesting idea, but I suspect some groups of people will (choose to) interpret it differently, then we will end up with some groups using it (and gaming it) for their own gain.
A similar concept, (but much harder to game), is something called a "Demarchy". It can be thought of as a stochastically sampled Democracy. (It removes the need for career politicians and so also removes the potential for corrupt career politicians using and gaming the system for their own gain).
Imagine if you random choose say 1% the population and for one month, they vote on how to run the country. Its effectively like being chosen for jury service, where for one month, your vote (instead of career politicians votes), decides how to run the country. The point is, 1% of the population is a large enough number of people, to prevent corruption becoming a major biasing factor (certainly far less likely than is possible now). Its also not so dissimilar to the concept we have used for centuries in jury trials, but in this case, the jury is vastly larger (so its a much better sampling quantity).
With a sampling rate of 1% of the population, then statistically once ever 100 selections you have a chance of being randomly chosen to run the country, (so on average once every about 8 years on average). If the country chooses to sample at say 4% of the population, then it means everyone gets randomly chosen on average about every 2 years. So a suitable sampling amount is somewhere between about 1% and 4% of a population. (Plus by randomly sampling the population, no group can be profiled to workout if and how to game that group (by for example, waiting for a group more statistically more favorable to be in power) before they get to vote on something. Also, it wouldn't be a sudden change of everyone once per month. It would be new people being prepared to start each day, while others ending their month long run of government, so everyones starts and ends on different days of the month, and so its smoothly distributed, instead of sudden changes of groups of people).
The concept of Demarchy is literally a stochastically sampled Democracy, which cuts out the political middle men. People vote not for middle men, they vote as the middle men once did. Centuries ago, such a system wasn't possible, due to the paper work needed for dealing with so many votes, but with modern technology, its entirely possible, plus then we don't need the career politician middle men anymore. Their archaic system of government and arrogant corruption can finally be consigned to the history books.
"absolute separation of a politician and the business world"
I think that is a major aspect of the problem, but unfortunately the people who seek higher positions of power in business are the same kind of people who seek higher positions of power governments. Both jobs have money and power over others. Also when career politicians find they cannot climb any higher in politics, they so often jump ship, into big business and continue to climb up the corporate business ladder to ever more money and power. Politicians and upper corporate business people are the same kind of people.
It makes good sense for politicians to have friends in business, as it provides them with avenues of self-advancement if they cannot climb up any higher in politics. Also it makes good sense for business people to have friends in government, as that way, they can much more easily lobby for more favorable law changes, that help their businesses grow ever larger (at the expense of smaller businesses, that so often get wiped out).
In principle, I don't care about my finger prints as such, but each new step towards total information on all of us, is something I think we need to resist until at least, the people in power (in government and big business) can be prevented from abusing their positions of power. Currently they are acting like they have a blank cheque and can write into law any amount of additional controls on everyone for their own gain. Profile us all to the Nth degree, so advertising and politics can greatly benefit.
Far too many career politicians, are lacking a great deal of empathy for the result of their actions. Some have extreme arrogance and contempt for the suffering their actions cause others. Too many of them are myopic in their desire for ever more power, at the expense of others. These are people who seek power over others often for decades of their lives, as they seek to climb up the to higher levels of power. Almost by definition they seek to dictate the rules to others, so even their basic need to gain power, means they seek to prevent others having the right to choose how they should live. These are not fair people. Giving them ever more powers is very dangerous in the longer term. They will continue to slowly keep on treading us all down, just as they are already doing. They don't want fairness, they want to be in power, for their own gain.
"The print itself has ZERO information about you"
You are not thinking long term at all. What about using a print as some form of ID card, or an alternative to a future credit card (acting like an alternative to a pin number), or a finger print used as a door entry code. In these cases, (all of which are technically possible now), a print is vital its kept private. It identifies us electronically, and so can be used in the future, to track our movements electronically.
Once you think even a bit longer term (even just basing it on existing technology being used in a wider context in the future) then you will see a finger print itself does have considerable importance as information about you.
"You may not be able to avoid staying unprinted for very long."
Far from it, I think its inevitable, but there are ways to protect the finger print data from being centrally held.
Plus that doesn't stop the concern with the long term political implications of allowing the people in power to gain ever greater power over everyone. For each new level of control they gain, there needs to be a way to monitor the people in power, to prevent abuses of the new powers, for their own gain. They are not above the law, but new laws are needed for new powers. The people in power are voted in to do a job. Not use their positions as a way to make their own lives ever richer, at the expense of millions of their minions. (There are already enough examples of abuses of power in history, (for example, look at the long battles needed to even just gain some level of democracy in the first place)).
Without an equal and opposite pressure on the ones in power, they will always game the system ever more into their own favor, for their own gain. We either learn from history, or we repeat the mistakes of the past.
Step 2: Once any one government has our finger prints, then that government contacts many other governments, to ask them if they want to buy the finger print details. (Or exchange their sets of data, with the other governments data for free).
The point being, information is getting spread around ever more these days and we can't change our finger prints, once that info leaks. Plus businesses are being used to out source a lot of government work. So what if they also leak (or more likely sell) their records.
Same worry in a few years time, with the potential to misuse DNA records. (Try getting insurance once that happens, if you have any chance of developing long term illnesses).
I didn't know finger prints were even needed to get into the US. That just feels wrong.
We seem to be suffering ever more information leaks. For example, I didn't know until recently, that all our credit card purchases were also being sold onto governments and other businesses. Thats just great, because it means governments can then workout exactly who are political opponents, based on which books they buy, which films they buy, etc..
The more information the people in power have on everyone else, then the more power they have over everyone, to hold back or punish anyone who disagrees with their point of view. So therefore the more info and power they get, the more they undermine democracy and move everyone ever closer to a totalitarian level of control and monitoring over everyone.
So much for democracy. I thought all politicians were voted in to just do a job and help us improve our countries. Looks like each group that gets into power, are slowly moving the world towards ever more power for them, for their own gain.
Looks like George Orwell's 1984 book was an instruction manual after all.
"why isn't the health care industry already doing it"
Because it'll cost a fortune, and be a nightmare to implement. (Look at the mess the UK is making of their health computer system, with loads of interest groups, all pulling in different directions, pushing up the costs).
"Early government estimates are showing 212,000 jobs could be created by this plan."
Yeah, and how many paper pushers etc.., will it put out of work?... While it will create jobs, it will also wipe out existing jobs. Political drones just want it to sound like its creating jobs. Plus even if its adding more jobs overall, then surely its going to end up costing more money in total to keep funding the system?
"It would certainly make smashing a hard drive to smithereens more interesting." and "I wouldn't recommend it though."
I pulled an old dead hard drive apart about 15 years ago, giving me an interesting shiny metal disk and a motor to play with. I had another drive die about two years ago, so I did the same. Only this time, forcing out what i thought was a metal disk, did indeed give an surprise I wouldn't recommend... this time, it was glass, which I only realized at the point it shattered and sprayed me with a shower of razor shape shards! Thankfully I still have my eyesight. Still, turning it into smithereens was indeed more interesting.:)
"In either case dark matter may not be necessary at all"
I agree dark matter may not be the correct answer, but more like, the current best fit answer, given current available evidence. One concept that could explain what is going on, without the need for dark matter, is the idea of Dark Flow.
If Dark Flow can be proven, (big if?!... Instant Nobel Prize winningly big if?!), but joking aside, if Dark Flow can be totally proven, then it would mean our idea of the universe, is simply only based on our visible part of the universe. (Due to the limit of how far we can see, because light can only travel so far, in the time the universe has existed). If Dark Flow really exists, then it means we are like a fish in a fish bowl, trying to make sense of the fish bowl, but unable to see beyond the bowl. (So unaware of just how much could be outside the fish bowl).
If Dark Flow really exists?, I think that would give us an awesome insight into the universe, but also an awe inspiring glimpse of just how limited our understanding of the universe may actually be?. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_flow
You know I am telling the truth. Its you who doesn't want to accept facts. Read your own post... Your words, not mine. i.e. "Oh, now it looks like youre targetting me specifically for down mods because you're a pissy little kid who's been shown to be quite incorrect in a subject which he's implied expertise. Between systematically modding you down and referencing material and statistics that expose you as a fake, I don't think this will take very long." http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1040359&cid=25898973
So funny how you use the word comprehension, when you forget what you said and fail totally to comprehend what I mean (or is that just another part of your tiresome game). Ok, as simple as I can say it.
* You trolled my comments, for weeks.
* You threatened multiple times to "systematically mod me down" due to your misguided paranoia.
* You use condescending phrases, combined with misinformation to wrongly imply discredit at my forum comments.
* You also use straw man arguments, to again wrongly imply discredit at my forum comments.
Still don't get it?... I bet not. (I don't care if you don't call it a game or think of it as a game, its still your need to compete or whatever you call it).
Its you who doesn't want to accept facts. So as you fail to accept facts, your words are misinformation, because they are not based on the facts.
It would definitely have something to do with it. Publicly undermining a government position on anything, is a bad move (politically speaking, as far as that government is concerned. It is however necessary to provide opposition, otherwise you end up with a dictatorship), but any attempt to oppose a government, is something a government will act against, to undermine anyone who opposes them.
Governments even treat their own members the same way, so they have no problem treating complete opponents like this. For example, they use the concept of the politic whips against even their own party members. So they have no trouble using similar tactics against complete opponents.
For example, "Whip is a role in party-based politics whose primary purpose is to ensure control of the formal decision-making process in a parliamentary legislature. Whips are party 'enforcers', who typically offer both inducements and punishments to party members." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whip_(politics)
"Their proposal was 12 pages long, compared to serious proposals of hundreds of pages"
I doubt this is only about the proposals. 6 weeks ago, Telstra criticized the government over Internet Filtering. This action to kick Telstra out of the $15bn Broadband Project, is the government's reaction to that criticism.
For example,
"Australia's ISPs Speak Out Against Filtering" http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/11/01/0248221 "The leaders of three of Australia's largest internet service providers -- Telstra Media's Justin Milne, iiNet's Michael Malone and Internode's Simon Hackett -- have, in video interviews with ZDNet.com.au over the past few months, detailed technical, legal and ethical reasons why ISP-level filtering won't work."
... Like the old say, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you"... and governments are very good at knowing how to manipulate, exactly like this.
I am not trying to teach you this, its a statement of fact.
In that first discussion thread, (about personality disorders) you tried to manipulate my comments down. (thats simple a fact). However, I wasn't going to let you bully my words down. So in response to *your actions*, in that thread, I *then* (i.e. after) started to highlight profile warning signs in your actions. Before that thread, I wasn't even aware of your existence.
But then your paranoia took over. Fact.... I AM *NOT* VOTING DOWN YOU COMMENTS. I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR COMMENTS, OTHER THAN WHEN YOU ANNOY ME WITH YOUR TROLLING *MY COMMENTS AND ONLY MY COMMENTS*... You can troll as many other people as you like. I don't care about your games there.
But I am not stupid. I can see when you or anyone tries to manipulate down and undermine my comments. (I know I don't know everything, so I am willing to learn, but I can see when someone isn't trying to teach me and is instead, playing straw man games etc.. against my comments).
I would say however, due to the amount of effort you spend in this task, not surprisingly, you have got very good at it. Thats simply a fact. Therefore, in this respect, you are clearly intelligent, in this role of bullying words down. However, outside of that activity, you are evidently a very narrow minded paranoid fool. Fool because of your paranoia in that you think others are like you. Frankly very few are like you. But thats your choice and I don't care, as I'm not interested... *I AM ONLY INTERESTED WHEN YOU KEEP TROLLING ME*... *Then I react and only *after* your actions against me*.
You can troll as many other people as you like. I don't care about your games there.
Yttrstein, please take the time to read this, hopefully its the final post. By the way, nothing you have said, (in your previous post) shows you realize the extreme paranoia you have shown at me, (time and time again), at your mistaken belief I was modding you down. (I was NOT). Yet from your mistake belief, you have then inflicted on me, a sustained campaign of abusing my posts for weeks. Given the extent of your paranoid and wrongful belief in me, its no wonder I finally had enough of your behavior toward me.
If you treat others, as you have treated me (for weeks), then I suspect, given time, then sooner or later, you will encounter people, just like you, who will seek to bully you, as you bully them. If thats the game you lot want to waste your time on, then fine, its your choice, just leave me out of it. I have no interest in your games.
By the way, your cleverly condescending phrase "diagnosis by slashdot" is totally wrong (but then I very much suspect you know that). Its just another one of your attempted straw man arguments, aiming to imply discredit at me, to attempt to put an end to my point of view, so in effect, attempting to silence my point of view.
When profiling, there are common signs of behavior, which when taken together, indicate signs of personality disorders. It doesn't take long to pickup these warning signs, if you learn what to look for. (But it does take time to learn). But then I suspect you know all this. But many others don't, which is all part of your overall game.
Your condescending phrase is just another example of your need to twist words and imply other meanings. But you say it with such glee. I'm sure you pat yourself on your back, at the joy it gives you, thinking you can manipulate the views of others. You have shown this behavior, in a lot of your posts, but its very clearly shown from your comment here. "I like to think it takes a little more savvy than rushing into a thread" and this "Again, silencing you wouldn't exactly be rocket science, and would only require about as much energy as I've put into trolling you to date."... You take such joy in knowing you can manipulate others. I know this behavior. Its yet another sign. Each sign pointing in the same direction.
Anyway, we originally got into this discussion, due to your need to manipulate my comments down, when I was talking about personality disorders weeks ago. I wasn't going to stand for that game, because the subject was too important and I could see your game, (as you so clearly illustrate in your own words).
I have no interest in profiling you or talking with you, as I've endured enough of your behavior towards me, thanks. I'm just sick of your paranoia directed at me. If someone is modding you down, then you need to look for someone else who is like you and would enjoy the trolling behaviors you enjoy. You need to look elsewhere, as I am not like you. I don't play your games, (but I am not stupid. I am mindful of the games. Some people are mindful of the games, without wishing to be a part of that game).
Or as an alternative, you could just learn to treat others with empathy?, but I guess that's unlikely, as all your current behavior has shown you are clearly too busy, thinking yourself clever, at attempting to manipulate perceptions of others. And credit where its due, for the most part, that methodology does work. Most people cannot see through attempts to manipulate them and the views of others around them. But then most people have a lot of trust in others and assume empathy in return. Most people are not mindful of the games some people attempt to play on them, but then most people spend their time learning other things. Its why I try to help some people understand the games that are possible to be played on them (and what patterns of behavior drive the need for someone to play these games). I'm trying to help people bring this manipulation to an end. I know its a futile goal, as there are more born every minute, that will
:)... I was hoping for something more useful, like alcohol or maybe hopefully something nearer to oil. I don't know if there is one bacteria that can convert all bio waste or if it needs sorting into different tanks?. If it can all be put into one tank, that should be cheap and easier. Maybe some kind of GM bacteria could be created that has oil as a waste product?.:)
Then again, as its near Christmas, alcohol would be more useful than oil;)
"What lame-brain dummy would think that either:-( or;-) are trademarkable symbols"
The kind of person who would think of trademarking these symbols, would be a businessman who wanted to use this cheap stunt, to get a lot of publicity for his business. Its not about the trademark. Its a stunt, to generate free publicity for his business.
"Without it speech is not truly free, because whatever government is in charge can track down the author and silence him. Anonymity makes it possible to avoid arrest."
That's true, but then that conflicts with the first post, "Why not encourage anonymity? It doesn't affect anyone so why not encourage it?"
Anonymity does affect someone. It prevents the people in power having more power to control and influence the people they seek to maintain power over. Therefore the people in power do not want their minions to have Anonymity. It means people who want power over others, see Anonymity as a problem, as it prevents them identifying and controlling everyone effectively.
Therefore people in power would welcome a Big Brother style level of control, as they are the ones who can gain vastly more power from such a system, of monitoring everyone they control.
Each step is simply driven by the need to gain and maintain power over others. Anonymity is an annoyance to the ones who seek to control others. It shows exactly how the power seekers think about their need to control others. It also shows how far they would take things, if they had their way and currently they are getting their way, far to much to clamp down and control everyone.
"how much energy could be distilled from the millions(billions?) of tons of waste produced each year" and "Many SF authors etc.."
Yeah exactly. I was wondering how much fuel we could get, if it was possible to recycle all bio waste?... It seems to make sense that things like almost all waste veg could be converted into fuel?... (In theory it seems possible, but I don't know about costs involved). Shops and markets worldwide etc.. create a lot of this kind of waste on their own. (It could become another source of money for them). Add in the waste from restaurants and homes, it must add up to a huge amount of bio waste?
Maybe it could be put into fermentation tanks, using bacteria to part-process it, into something more useful?... not sure how practical that is, cost wise, but it does seem like there must be a huge amount of bio fuel sources, currently going to waste.
yttrstein, you lie and manipulate with every post. You have trolled my posts. The evidence of your lies and extreme paranoia is there in the Slashdot logs.
For example, in your own words... * "Hi Mindkata, I cant help but see that you've been chasing me all over slashdot again, modding down as much as possible because you have a vendetta against me. I think that's so sweet I put you on my friends list."
* "But it might be for nothing, since from the start of my newest slashdot persona has been doing 4s and 5s for the last three weeks, almost exclusively. I've been modding you down with that one, and will continue to forever."
* "is that you're the one who's been modding me down for no reason at all other than you're a pissy little bitch about me revealing to the world that you're not actually an expert at anything, and that your posts are in reality almost entirely hot air."
You show, in your own words, extreme paranoid in your posts, about what you think of me and your need to troll my posts.
Get this through you fucking thick skull. I HAVE NEVER VOTED ON ANY ONE OF YOUR POSTS... If you are still so fucking paranoid, that you still don't believe me, then you contact Slashdot and get a full fucking log of every mod point I've ever awarded.
Now, finally, yttrstein, do you see why I've had to comment on you?... I HAVE NEVER VOTED ON ANY OF YOUR POSTS!. Its all in your fucked up mind. I've never voted on your posts.
I don't give a fuck about what you do with your life. I'm not trying to counsel you. I simply tried to help you, see you need to seek help, but you are to closed minded to see that in yourself. Frankly I don't care what you do with your life. That is your choice. I simply tried to help, but I see now that's a waste of time. You are to closed minded, so you just throw my attempt to help back in my face. It was expected of you, but still I tried to help. End of story.
As for your behavior on Slashdot, your lying twisted thinking is evident in your own words. I don't give a fuck what other login names you have.
By the way, nothing you say is going to stop me discussion personality disorders, which is what you really wanted me to do. If anything, you are encouraging me to make an example of your behavior. But I have no interest in giving you attention.
Cluster B disorders are driven ultimately by fear, but you don't want to hear that. Fear is the last thing someone with a Cluster B disorder would want to admit. So yttrstein, if you don't believe that its ultimately by fear, then you try reading up on psychology and neuroscience.
But then you are too busy trolling people, being paranoid, and looking for ways to get attention.... Whatever, yttrstein, I can't be bothered with you.
Then again, maybe you shouldn't read up on psychology and neuroscience, because the progress that is being made now, with growing understanding of personality disorders, would probably scare the hell out of you, about where the research is going. Frankly thats good. Because the more everyone else, learns to understand precisely the behavior of Cluster B disorders, the more they will stop Cluster B disorders causing such trouble in the world.
So yttrstein, you can troll my posts all you like on Slashdot, in a pointless attempt to silence my comments about Cluster B disorders, but nothing you say, will stop the rate of progress in areas of science researching brain functioning.
... "then try try again", as the old saying goes.

So, "First outbreak of common sense by the Uk government". Its not common sense. They just plan to use a bigger net to catch people with.

I totally agree. For some tasks its very useful. I have wondered how practical it would be to create an open hardware project like this product, based around FPGA and DDR2 (or maybe DDR3 as that will likely be cheaper within the next I guess about 18 months and taking over from DDR2). Does anyone know of any existing open projects like this?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear,_uncertainty_and_doubt

"Step 1: Gather Information."
"why isn't the health care industry already doing it"
... While it will create jobs, it will also wipe out existing jobs. Political drones just want it to sound like its creating jobs. Plus even if its adding more jobs overall, then surely its going to end up costing more money in total to keep funding the system?
Because it'll cost a fortune, and be a nightmare to implement. (Look at the mess the UK is making of their health computer system, with loads of interest groups, all pulling in different directions, pushing up the costs).
"Early government estimates are showing 212,000 jobs could be created by this plan."
Yeah, and how many paper pushers etc.., will it put out of work?
"It would certainly make smashing a hard drive to smithereens more interesting." and "I wouldn't recommend it though."
... this time, it was glass, which I only realized at the point it shattered and sprayed me with a shower of razor shape shards! Thankfully I still have my eyesight. Still, turning it into smithereens was indeed more interesting. :)
:)
I pulled an old dead hard drive apart about 15 years ago, giving me an interesting shiny metal disk and a motor to play with. I had another drive die about two years ago, so I did the same. Only this time, forcing out what i thought was a metal disk, did indeed give an surprise I wouldn't recommend

Only if Rudolf was eaten by sharks and Santa then had to water ski behind them.
"In either case dark matter may not be necessary at all"
I agree dark matter may not be the correct answer, but more like, the current best fit answer, given current available evidence. One concept that could explain what is going on, without the need for dark matter, is the idea of Dark Flow.
If Dark Flow can be proven, (big if?!
If Dark Flow really exists?, I think that would give us an awesome insight into the universe, but also an awe inspiring glimpse of just how limited our understanding of the universe may actually be?.

And by this point, if you haven't figured out I'm not trying to win against you, then you really are an idiot.
Here's a clue: You are not the only audience. Other people also read Slashdot.
p.s. The more you say, the more you prove me correct.
"banana peel brandy"

For some strange reason, that sounds like a good drink
You know I am telling the truth. Its you who doesn't want to accept facts. Read your own post ... Your words, not mine. i.e.
... I bet not. (I don't care if you don't call it a game or think of it as a game, its still your need to compete or whatever you call it).
"Oh, now it looks like youre targetting me specifically for down mods because you're a pissy little kid who's been shown to be quite incorrect in a subject which he's implied expertise. Between systematically modding you down and referencing material and statistics that expose you as a fake, I don't think this will take very long."
http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1040359&cid=25898973
So funny how you use the word comprehension, when you forget what you said and fail totally to comprehend what I mean (or is that just another part of your tiresome game). Ok, as simple as I can say it.
* You trolled my comments, for weeks.
* You threatened multiple times to "systematically mod me down" due to your misguided paranoia.
* You use condescending phrases, combined with misinformation to wrongly imply discredit at my forum comments.
* You also use straw man arguments, to again wrongly imply discredit at my forum comments.
Still don't get it?
Whips are party 'enforcers', who typically offer both inducements and punishments to party members."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whip_(politics)
"Their proposal was 12 pages long, compared to serious proposals of hundreds of pages"
... Like the old say, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" ... and governments are very good at knowing how to manipulate, exactly like this.
I doubt this is only about the proposals. 6 weeks ago, Telstra criticized the government over Internet Filtering. This action to kick Telstra out of the $15bn Broadband Project, is the government's reaction to that criticism.
For example,
"Australia's ISPs Speak Out Against Filtering"
http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/11/01/0248221
"The leaders of three of Australia's largest internet service providers -- Telstra Media's Justin Milne, iiNet's Michael Malone and Internode's Simon Hackett -- have, in video interviews with ZDNet.com.au over the past few months, detailed technical, legal and ethical reasons why ISP-level filtering won't work."
I am not trying to teach you this, its a statement of fact.
... I AM *NOT* VOTING DOWN YOU COMMENTS. I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR COMMENTS, OTHER THAN WHEN YOU ANNOY ME WITH YOUR TROLLING *MY COMMENTS AND ONLY MY COMMENTS* ... You can troll as many other people as you like. I don't care about your games there.
... *I AM ONLY INTERESTED WHEN YOU KEEP TROLLING ME* ... *Then I react and only *after* your actions against me*.
Fact.
But thats your choice and I don't care, as I'm not interested
Given the extent of your paranoid and wrongful belief in me, its no wonder I finally had enough of your behavior toward me.
... You take such joy in knowing you can manipulate others. I know this behavior. Its yet another sign. Each sign pointing in the same direction.
"I like to think it takes a little more savvy than rushing into a thread" and this "Again, silencing you wouldn't exactly be rocket science, and would only require about as much energy as I've put into trolling you to date."
I know its a futile goal, as there are more born every minute, that will
"something more useful -- like soil?"
:) ... I was hoping for something more useful, like alcohol or maybe hopefully something nearer to oil. I don't know if there is one bacteria that can convert all bio waste or if it needs sorting into different tanks?. If it can all be put into one tank, that should be cheap and easier. Maybe some kind of GM bacteria could be created that has oil as a waste product?. :)
;)
Then again, as its near Christmas, alcohol would be more useful than oil
"What lame-brain dummy would think that either :-( or ;-) are trademarkable symbols"
"how much energy could be distilled from the millions(billions?) of tons of waste produced each year" and "Many SF authors etc.."
... It seems to make sense that things like almost all waste veg could be converted into fuel? ... (In theory it seems possible, but I don't know about costs involved). Shops and markets worldwide etc.. create a lot of this kind of waste on their own. (It could become another source of money for them). Add in the waste from restaurants and homes, it must add up to a huge amount of bio waste?
... not sure how practical that is, cost wise, but it does seem like there must be a huge amount of bio fuel sources, currently going to waste.
Yeah exactly. I was wondering how much fuel we could get, if it was possible to recycle all bio waste?
Maybe it could be put into fermentation tanks, using bacteria to part-process it, into something more useful?
yttrstein, you lie and manipulate with every post. You have trolled my posts. The evidence of your lies and extreme paranoia is there in the Slashdot logs.
... If you are still so fucking paranoid, that you still don't believe me, then you contact Slashdot and get a full fucking log of every mod point I've ever awarded.
... I HAVE NEVER VOTED ON ANY OF YOUR POSTS!. Its all in your fucked up mind. I've never voted on your posts.
... Whatever, yttrstein, I can't be bothered with you.
I HAVE NEVER VOTED ON ANY ONE OF YOUR POSTS
Now, finally, yttrstein, do you see why I've had to comment on you?
But then you are too busy trolling people, being paranoid, and looking for ways to get attention.
