Okay this didn't work in the x186 days, so I guess it's been long enough that it needs a redux. I remember when they were selling these machines which were essentially a backplane and one of the things you could plug into it was your CPU daughtercard. These were being sold as a way to "futureproof" (remember that buzzword?) your system. Turns out that was only good for a few CPU cycles...
I have one of these from DynaFlex that I got ages ago. I'd like to use it at work, but the damn thing is so loud when it's running. Anyone have any recommendations on ones that are quiet when running?
Well you need to factor in getting to and from the library and what that costs vs. just being able to download something off of Amazon's whispernet without having to go anywhere and spend time going somewhere. Seems like a few dozen trips to the library at the gas prices these days would more than offset the price of a low-end Kindle (which I've seen for as low as $50.)
"And as long as they're going to steal it, we want them to steal ours. They'll get sort of addicted, and then we'll somehow figure out how to collect sometime in the next decade."
Seemed like a good move considering they're having to deal with market erosion from things like Paint.NET and GIMP.
I think "Computer Science" came about in the 80's. Prior to that, computer software skills were bundled into Management Information Systems (MIS) degrees.
I don't understand this acquisition at all. Instagram isn't anything special. Seems to me FB could have easily implemented a competitor to it for 1/100th the cost.
I can see the opposite of this being true with LED backlighting (where a portion of the backlight is turned off to make blacker blacks) or OLED where the individual pixel is not being turned on. For standard LCD screens with a CFL backlight (where the backlight is always on), I don't see this being true at all. If anything, for standard LCDs, screens with motion banner ads would consume more display energy as the LCD pixels would need energy to be constantly flipping to update the animation on the screen (so running an ad blocker could make you greener!)
The Nook Color will always boot from the microSD card first, so you just need to insert a boot ROM image burned onto a card and it'll just work from that. There's nothing else that needs to be done. This is the easiest route and takes no longer than 10 minutes (most of that time probably waiting for the ISO download and imaging it to the SD card.)
I find it more sad that people think crime will be solved by removing the tools of that crime. After guns are removed and people start using knives they will be the first people to limit the size of knives people can buy. After that?
Well there seems to be a direct correlation between the availability of guns, and crimes committed with guns. You take a look at the statistics from countries that don't allow their citizens to carry guns and you'll find that, *surprise*, there are far fewer gun-related deaths.
At least if you're using a knife you're bringing back the personal one-to-one nature of murder where the murderer must at least touch his victim instead of mowing them down from across a field. And there's much less collateral damage as well.
Ended up letting it go with the car when I sold it. Saw that it was available again, but the DMV won't allow you to order it anymore.

... selling things that haven't even been invented yet... but somehow now have a delivery timeline...
Yeah the Premiere Pro 2.0 is pretty much useless with any camcorder shooting HD.

I predict a mirrored future for our military vehicles...
I was looking at these for a time. Seemed to be pretty good for the hobbiest. http://fslaser.com/

It involves taking your pants down and bending over. Louis chose to keep his sphincter intact. Good for you Louis!
If it works as well as my last Sony CD disc changer, I'm not holding my breath.
Well really to see if there was in fact a functioning "satellite" loaded.
Any chance we could locate and recover anything? I think the capsule would be of particular interest...

I chose to have a house down-payment rather than spending ~$1000/year on a phone...

Was his porn buddy killed in the raid too? Or maybe he didn't designate a porn buddy.
