I'm with you there. Someone will be driving down the freeway, or walking through a mall, suddenly see a flash of light, and find they've lost a big part of their vision, 'cause some kids were playing around with one of these.
As an old, married geek, I agree completely. In my experience, it's often the case that the reason one guy (#1) is successful with women while another (#2) fails, is that guy #1 is simply around more women, either through his job, hobbies or living situation.
Unfortunately for geeky males, working at a high-tech company and spending one's free time writing open-source or attending LUG meetings doesn't give you much chance of getting to know women.
Er, I was in college in the 1970's, and the same was true then. Most kids were there to drink, party, and have sex; and this was at UCLA, a fairly decent school.
People in their 20's are supposed to be a bunch of freekin idiots. Otherwise, us old farts wouldn't be able to stay employed.
But "better" is purely a matter of opinion, and mine is that your car is definitely better. If someone gave me a Bentley, I'd sell it and buy a Passat or something similar in that price range.
BTW, by "faster", do you mean top speed or acceleration? I thought Bentley made big luxury cars; and if that's the case, the VW might accelerate faster (which to me would make it a lot more fun to drive).
I'm a cheapskate, and pay $13/month for "basic cable" and $5/month for my Virgin cell-phone service (which obviously, I don't use very much).
One thing you mentioned, your "ex", is a good part of the reason why people pay so much: If one person in a relationship wants something, that's what often prevails. So maybe one spouse wants a cellphone plan with lots of minutes, the other wants a cable package with lots of channels; and soon they're paying $$$/month that they can't really afford.
Convenient public transport is only viable when you have a high population density.
True. But a high population density is only viable when you have good public transport. Build a system in a city, like the subway in L.A., and you start seeing major development near the stations. People start to realize that the house in the suburbs, where you get to enjoy 2-hour commutes and the "recreation" of mowing your lawn, isn't as desirable as they used to think.
In Portland, OR, I've seen an abandoned warehouse district turned into a trendy high-rise (and highly expensive) loft neighborhood, and I think the presence of light-rail and streetcar lines had a lot to do with it. I've heard that similar development is going on in downtown Los Angeles.
That's right. The RIAA offered apple Itunes to Eve, but she insisted on downloading pirated mp3's instead and sharing them with Adam. That's when they got kicked out of the Garden, and lost their free connection to the internet.
Well, yes, the real reason she's being denied is because she's a pirate. You know, the sort that fires cannons at cruise ships, rapes and pillages, and shares MP3's!
...and before we know it, we'll be complaining because our street is all parked-up with spacecraft, and a couple of our neighbors have old orbital vehicles rusting on their lawns!
Unrelated. Usually with some high level math theory title I understand the individual words by themselves, but not all together. But that 3rd place title. Holy crap. 3 words I've never even heard of.
It's algebraic topology, usually taught at the graduate-school level.
For a phone you don't use a lot, check out Virgin Mobile. I pay $15 every 3 months, and it all accumulates in my account balance, which gets charged 18cents/minute and 5cents/test-message. Since I hardly ever use the phone, my current balance is over $50. You do have to buy the phone, but they have basic models for $10-$20.
All the major organised religions seem to want is lots of uneducated children who think they are going to go to 'heaven' when they die.
Nah... different religions emphasize different things. The one I was born into pushes the message that you have to follow the religion and teach your kids to follow the religion so that in the future, there will still be people following the religion.
Yes. Also note that until the Lincoln penny, most of our coins featured "Lady Liberty", portrayed as a goddess. I would say that "liberty" was our official religion.
Hmm... didn't Douglas Adams suggest that if you could stop believing in gravity for a moment, you could fly?
What about Pigasus, the flying pig?
No problem, since there are only 10 actual Portland natives. The rest of us are Californians.
The germs could evolve to be stickier. Someday, The Blob could become a reality...

I still haven't gotten through all the games in the "Lost Treasures of Infocom" that I bought about 12 years ago.

Just asking, because it would certainly save a lot of money if we just get these bacteria to marry.
You've obviously never paid for a wedding.

Does that imply that god has some companions up there? Who are they, and where did they go?
Sounds like a setup for a sequel.

You haven't been paying attention to 'anti-oxidants'. Nowadays, 'healthy food' includes coffee, chocolate, wine and beer!

Good point, and it might be true of applications too. For example, heavy use of emacs might wear out the 'Esc' and 'Ctrl' keys.

Speaking of Ultima... OSS projects involving that game never have a problem, since Humility is a requirement for every member.

software developed in Estonia...
Damn, why is this "cvs update" taking so long? Oh yeah, the project is hosted in Alpha Centauri.
I agree. The original Privateer was one of the best games ever made, with much more challenging combat than any of the later Wing Commander games.
