Great link there and just what I was looking for. Found a donation center right in town that will see that my old computers get to needy kids. Thank you!
As far as I know, OLPC doesn't take used laptops for their program. They only take monetary donations for new XO's. Have you found differing information?
I would not touch that with a barge pole. MS XML is an example that they are not moving on that issue, or they would support ODF, not using dirty tactics to force an half-backed non open standard.
They have an history to use one OSS group against another too.
Blender is in a position where we do not depend on any MS backed format, so I think we should be very careful to stay neutral in those areas.
and
Personally I don't see why specific attention should be given to proprietary Microsoft file formats. If they continue to avoid truly open standards and their own file formats provide a sub-optimal experience for Windows users, then it is not the open source community that has a problem imho.
I don't see Microsoft making it easy for Mac, Sun, Linux etc users to use their "file formats, which are not open or not fully open". Any multi platform application which has support for Windows specific file formats is going to end up with a fragmented community as data then becomes platform specific even if the application isn't.
Do we want to help Microsoft lock more users data to their platform, or do we want to encourage Microsoft to truly move towards open standards?
Exactly! Which is why I finally decided to lock down my router last night, due to paranoia. I live in a new development where homes average 30 meters apart with no big trees or other obstructions so my router has pretty good reach. Most of my neighbors have the same ISP I do, which gives you an ADSL modem/router combo (I see four 'admin' and a 'linksys' AP's), but apparently these folks have no idea what AP they are connecting to and, somehow, mine was the first choice. I guess they liked the essid I chose, no_carrier.
I've used gpg for Icedove and I considered it for Iceweasel but I'll be damned if I will 'register' with mozilla.org, now required, just to download it. When did they start that crap?
Indeed! I was merely pointing out where the poster got 'java'. I should have been clearer. Even with my limited knowledge, I understand that javascript only shares some C syntax and naming conventions with java.
ActionScript bytecode state; yeah, about that. ActionScript is Javascript that controls Flash animations. But the Javascript system used by Flash is pretty advanced; for performance, it transforms Javascript into bytecodes for a VM. For a bytecode VM, ActionScript is pretty tight; its runtime stack is integrated with the CPUâ(TM)s runtime stack. The memory it uses to execute code is the same memory that the Flash C-code runtime uses to manage its own state.
ActionScript is a register-based VM, meaning that its bytecode instructions concern themselves chiefly with moving values in and out of memory slots that simulate CPU registers. Those registers live in the runtime stack and are accessed by indexing. Meaning, a malicious Flash bytecode instruction can index its way to an arbitrary address on the system stack. Game over.
"The greater concern for me is having ECMA stripped of its ability to push a standard through the fast-track process (Class A Liaison status, IIRC) and changing the fast-track process to be substantially less able to be abused, even if this means taking some or all of the "fast" out of "fast track"."
As I understand it, if ISO had stuck to their existing rules, OOXML would never have been approved. The abuse ($$$) simply overwhelmed their, otherwise, good intentions. I'm sure this isn't the first time nor will it be the last, regardless of any changes in the organization.
Start a secret coalition of concerned citizens and use the $600 government rebates we are about to get to buy off some corrupt Chinese officials in their space program to shoot these spy satellites down.
You sniveling little cheesedick mod. What is your fucking problem? Drop on down and give me 100. No goddammit, don't you dare take that ruck sack off. You're on report you cocksucker. I'm gonna be watching you real close. Now get the fuck outta of my sight.
There, I feel better now, thank you.

Google at least gives you a reach around. Gmail has some nice features and I now have over 6.5 GiB of storage and counting. I use iGoogle to organize my most viewed sites with access to all the other Google features/tools/apps.
Am I worried abut personal my personal info, shit, the IRS has it all from the late 50's, the FBI has it from the 60's (military secret clearance), the Veterans Administration from the 70's, employers, banks, the post office, state licensing agencies, mortgage companies, title companies, utilities you name it. Sure, I try to guard it as best I can but...
Indeed, I do. When you stand at a craps table for hours and experience hot and cold runs of the dice, those terms, and the feelings that go with them, seem very appropriate. Some experienced craps players take this 'feeling' to extremes and will walk away from a table if the ambiance is disturbed in any way.
"Craps is pure chance, and the only thing you can do is place bets with the least house advantage, there is no skill whatsoever."
I'd disagree slightly with this. Just knowing how the game is played, odds of various bets and knowing the correct amount you can bet, playing 'right' and 'wrong'(best odds of any game in the house), paying attention to the play(especially after a few drinks, buxom waitresses), staying away from 'sucker' bets, etc., would all count as a certain degree of skill.
I don't think ziRtrON was relating buying the 6/8 to card counting. Just that at 6:4 odds you can make a lot of money quickly on a 'hot' table.
My biggest problem is throwing the dice. After years of use and damage, my hands don't always do what I intend. I once hit a stick-man in the face with a die. He told me I was the first to do that. Very embarrassing.
Understanding how to make such hardness gradients could revolutionize engineering anywhere that 'interfaces between soft and hard materials [are required].'
I've always wanted to tell a woman, "I've got twelve inches but I don't use it as a rule."?
Damn! We've got thunderstorms scheduled for Wednesday night here in northeastern Oklahoma. Oh well, maybe I'll get to see a tornado; from a distance of course. Yeah, I know it will be dark then but have you ever seen almost constant lightning at night?
"While you may think that being anally probed by airport security sucks, the airport workers love it as do the Members of Congress who use it to get erected."

At 230100 lb, a D11T would be even better.
Will this do?

That's just the first two comments.

And, the right continent and country within 250 miles of the desired touchdown point in spite of a glitch. Pretty damn good, I'd say.

Interesting! When I previewed this in the new comment box, all was fine.

Another great product from Google. ;)
I used my Laserjet II to warm the house in Winter but I could never figure out how to attach a thermostat to the darn thing.
I had a different 'sword' in mind.
I've always wanted to tell a woman, "I've got twelve inches but I don't use it as a rule."?...Keith Richards has already boldly gone where no man has been before.
Oh, kind of like winning football games, huh? ;) Yes, CU managed to beat the Sooners last season as well.

Hmm, I read that as:
Same thing, I guess.
