If they made a movable dome, such as over sports arenas, that was made of the same tile as is on the space shuttle, or even just a highly reflective material, would that be enough to keep temperatures equalized?
My congressman robocalls me three or four times a year. Sometimes with important information, sometimes inviting me to join in a huge districtwide conference call to discuss some important issue. I appreciate this information more often than not.

This is the salary schedule for schools in my hometown. This information is freely available on most school system's websites.
I will quit my job (making >$32,000/yr) in a year to take a teaching job that will pay me $29,780 to start.
The poverty line for a two parent family with two children here in Nebraska is $22,800. I have three kids and my wife is a stay-at-home mommy.
So, after working through University for the past six years I will take a pay cut to nearly poverty levels.
I feel overpaid already!
I think many people have a soured view of our educational system, and, sadly, those are the ones who voice negative opinions.
As an education major I have been in many different classrooms through observation requirements for graduation and have seen many wonderful teachers. Granted, there are those whom I've seen telling students to "shut up" and "knock it off." These teachers seem to be the burnt out ones who've stopped trying. I'm optimistic about the future of our schools because of the quality of training I have received and the enthusiasm I've seen in my peers.
Just remember, "The jar with the fewest beans rattles the loudest."
Not all teacher's unions are bad, well, not as bad as the NEA. They do seem to be a necessity though. I know that if someday a student or his parents were to bring a frivolous lawsuit against me I would want someone there to help.
We do this in University classes. It doesn't work. Most people I see spend 2 minutes filling in the "above average" circle on the scantron card. Even when the teacher is an imbecile.
I like your other point though. More educated educators aren't always better. I've had a few "doctors" for teachers that weren't worth the paper their titles were printed on as far as teaching was concerned.
The problem with raising teacher pay is that it will attract more people. Teaching is not something that everyone is good at. Just because you can get a doctorate doesn't mean you have the skill. There is a big difference.
Raising teacher pay could attract worse teachers that do it for the money. People who really want to teach, such as myself, will often take a cut in pay to do so. I have been working manual labor for a long time while taking classes to become an educator. When I take my first teaching job, assuming I do it here in Nebraska, I will go from ~$32,000/yr to ~$28,000 if I don't do anything but teach. That's a huge cut when a person has three kids to feed, but it is what I love doing.
Sure, I'd love to get paid more, but I also want kids to learn from people who LOVE teaching.
No, in order for it to be a number it would have to be Brazilion. Kinda like Trillian is a person, Trillion is a number. Bajillian is a name, bajillion is a number. It's all about the last two letters.
I once spent an evening watching "Driving Miss Daisy" and playing Tetris on my Gameboy (original b&w). That night I couldn't sleep because everytime I started to doze off I saw Tetris pieces falling down around little old ladies drinking tea.
Did they ask five whole people from each party? Wow. (I know they asked more than that). The way TFA reads makes me think they hand picked their participants. I'm very conservative and my house is still a mess, we have art supplies everywhere, we like to travel, I like folk, classic rock, and modern rock. This study sounds too specifically biased towards perceived stereotypes. And blinking! Wow! I'm glad to know I'm more easily startled. I just love articles that make one group of people sound more human and personable than another group that would otherwise be exactly the same.
Maybe I just need to be a more timid, anal-retentive Windows user (as opposed to an outgoing, artsy, Mac user).
Actually my wife just found out someone was using her name and credit to pay, or not pay, utility bills a thousand miles away. I think the girl also bought a car under my wife's name, I wonder how I get a hold of it...
I think humanity has a limited amount of intelligence and the more people there are the less there is to go around. Or, there are so many people, who's going to catch me?
They've developed a method for predicting earthquakes and made up the story about the nuclear explosions so they can keep their technology secret a little longer. It's all a big cover up.
That would be great work for inmates. Then maybe they could pay for their own cable tv. It would only work in minimun security prisons though, the maximum guys would be looking for chunks of glass or even mother boards slivers to use as improvised weapons. (shivs?)

There's premium content on youTube? I thought it was all cute videos of stupid animals and people.

No, it means he only eats veterans. Duh.
I've gotten viruses from my ISP's website. So even with being extra cautious about software you download and run, you can't catch everything.

Is this a joke? I sure hope you are joking.
Maybe Slashdot should try this. Let's see,
1. Charge per post
2. ???*
3. Profit
(*everyone leaves because we all spend too much time on Slashdot to earn enough money to pay for our posts)
What's a B-side?
What about Tempurpedic mattresses and all those hundreds of products on late night infomercials?
RTFS
Thanks.
Just wondering here, what the hell is a bargepole? I looked it up in my trusty (maybe not so trusty?) dictionary. I couldn't find it.

Offtopic, but Kraftwerk is great!
Here in Nebraska, and most likely in other states, we already have a few miles of Interstate highway that is made of recycled tires. Over 47,000 scrap tires have been blended into an asphalt mix in the resurfacing of seven miles of I-80. This is just a test to see how well it holds up, but I think it's a step in the right direction. http://www.ndeq.state.ne.us/Newslett.nsf/1e49230d2 053f96506256ca700793df6/92e88ee33d3a591606256ca700 6af928?OpenDocument
