The only actual problem so far is distributing in a way that consumers wouldn't have to compile your stuff... Binary packages are a nightmare through different distros, not even Debian and ubuntu are compatible anymore and it just gets worse and worse.

I just think that both Mac and Linux would have the same amount of huge complications before even thinking to get enterprise.

    1. For me Linux is "easy to use". It is just not "the easiest to use" in some aspects... But once you get used to some stuff it is easy to use. The good news is that it is also "flexible to use" which is more important to me.

    2. Linux is good for developers, however something I found pretty wicked as a developer was to distribute my program. Seriously, Making a cross platform game in C++ was not hard at all for me when I compare it to getting it to be distributable under linux. Just making a .configure ~ make tar.gz package was pretty damn hard. And I still have no clue how to make rpms, or .debs . I really looked for documentation on how they are done but somehow I can only get giberish. Seriously. So far the only distro I was succesful to make a package for was slax.

    3. Is linux a myth? I used the linux kernel a couple of times so from my own experience linux isn't a myth, prove me wrong though.

    4. Is linux secure? One can always argue that the unix model is always more secure than the windows model. And Open source ensures that vulnerabilities will be fixed (speaking of Microsoft's update tuesday that will not come this week). Of course it is foolish to think it would never have any vulnerability and it did have many.

    5. I am using Kubuntu linux at this moment!, why? Because there were a couple of things I wanted to do that are in no way easy to do in windows XP, so I rebooted. Yeah, seriously linux is currently better at some stuff than windows, I don't expect anyone to deny this, at least I wouldn't expect anyone who actually tried linux to deny so. Of course there are some things that force me to boot into windows, but from time to time they are getting less and less. Linux will eventually be able to take windows on the desktop. I wouldn't expect it to happen anytime soon though.

The rest of the article is more about how linux is pro commie and all that crap, it seems like FUD sometimes, sorry. I do notice how me attacking the article really seems as if he touched a sensible part of linux, but seriously, this one article wasn't really a big piece of serious criticism more than a bunch of FUD. It actually reminded me to some satire site out there...

Firefox developers will have an INCREDIBLY hard time making the Firefox UI as fast as Konqueror/Safari/Opera because of their extensive use of XUL.
No, they won't. "why?" do you ask? Because THERE IS NO SPEED DIFFERENCE! . Know this: if you need a benchmark to prove that something is faster than something else then it is not faster enough to be noticeable.

I tested konqueror, Opera , firefox and IE. All four browsers take the same time to render the same page : less than A SECOND! (And this is a fairly slow computer). As a human being I cannot take advantage of any extra millisecond firefox might be taking to render a page.

Thus the alleged speed difference doesn't really matter for the end users. In fact they care about other stuff. Konqueror might try to advertise the speed difference as a placebo (like opera does) but that is not likely to work (check the numbers, the placebo doesn't really work for opera as much as they would want)

Did you notice that the only feature IE7 copied from other browsers is tabbed browsing? MS is not really an incompetent company, they noticed that it was the most important feature that made people migrate to other browsers. YES, USERS are interested in how conformable is to browse with certain tool and how that tool makes it better for them.

I have 3 fake emails, I am not a terrorist planning to bomb europe, and I hope I will never be. Why do I have fake emails? Do I want to hide from the government ? No, it is just that I am not stupid.

Heck, you want to signup for SOME internet service, forum , whatever. IT WILL ASK YOU FOR A DARN EMAIL ADDRESS! , yes, they almost always do, but even assuming that the company/group holding the service is totally legit and won't use your email for the 50 different BAD things they can do with it, they are most likely vulnerable to an information leak. So anyone will be able to get your email address pretty easily... Do you want that to happen? No, you don't. For starters, you don't want your own email address to get filled by the darn "M4K3 YOUR PEN1S LARGER" emails, you don't want to get spam or phishing. You really don't want to put your email address in peryl just to access some site for whatever reason (among other things it could be porn, support forum for your printer, a place where you can share experiences about dog training, some collaborative thing, etc. (in other words using the internet!).

I would really pity anyone living in a country in which a government forces you to use your own email everywhere, whatever the excuse they use. Notice how terrorists do not need email addresses to bomb your train station, and they don't have much trouble finding fake IDs, no reason it would be anymore difficult for an illicit organization to do illicit things in the web because of this.
