I was checking out our microfiche catalogs at my college's library, looking for "Playbill" (honestly!) and ran into their drawer of Playboy archives. Seriously! Pictures and everything, for about 20 yrs IIRC, but in black&white. Isn't that a hoot?
IMHO, the only way Censoring will work is if someone takes the time to look through every file coming through the pipe: images,.html pages,.zip files, etc. Unless that's done, you risk blacklisting something that's valid.
Since that's theoretically impossible (and expensive) Censoring will not work.
This sort of reminds me of the time when Tux was held for ransom by someone wanting the Linux q3test release. They even made a little graphic of Tux with a gun to his head, IIRC. Now that was a hoot! =)
(I would post the link, but the server it was on is gone.)
Your acceptance of the "Free Video Update" browser enhancement constitutes your agreement to receive periodic communications from GoHip! and THIRD PARTIES, via e-mail.
And how in the world do they get your e-mail address? Should they add a line in there saying....and you authorize us to invade your mail client to root out all your e-mail accounts stored therein??
By certifying GoHip, they are endorsing their business practices.
If you believe the above, you probably believe that GoHip's ISP should be dropping their service because of their business practices; and that Network Solutions (or whoever) should revoke GoHip's registration. Both these companies are allowing them to do business in this fasion as well, and are in the above logic losing credibility because they're allowing GoHip to continue.
Netscape currently only allows "per session" modifications to the default search engine. The instructions to edit the preferences are definitely not user-friendly. So, until Netscape allows modifications more easily for the user, you will not be able to modify the default search engine.
On one of your links (http://www.gohip.com/remove_br owser_enhancement.html) it sends you to another page to remove GoHip as your IE Search Engine; you have to download a registry update file! Excuse me, but if a company used malicious code to change my e-mail signature (among other things), I'm not letting them modify my registry!
When you think of it, this has to be either a screaming deal or a total hoax. The "up to 1GHz" processor would cost $500+ (i'm estimating low since it's a console =) and DVD, 56k mode, 4GB hard drive, etc, are all things that would tip a consumer PC past $750 at least. For $149 this has got to be some fantasic production process!
I have a mirror of the above-mentioned file (specifically the one from http://www.snafu.priv.at/jargon/jargon. html). Again, it's not "official", but if you want to take a look at it while jargon.org is tanked, go ahead.

What am I supposed to choose for the second one, it's just a text box! =) And I don't remember seeing either one before...
Is it just me, or has there been a severe lack of moderation/moderators over the past 2-3 days? I've noticed a growing trend towards this, and even on this story, there's no evidence of (+) moderation at the point I write this. It seems they're checking for flamebait in the first 5 posts, and then leaving.
At least for the moment. (I'm pasting here for the benefit of people that can't wait for the slow page to come up.)

This poll is not scientific and reflects the opinions of only those Internet users who have chosen to participate.[...]
With 64% of those polled saying they run linux on their desktop, I reason don't see the reason why they need this disclaimer. =)

That's what I thought too! They talked about pixies vomiting, political signs, and then forked off into other stuff.
Who the hell was whistling that song at the end? Was that 'God Save The Queen'? Probably not. =)

Too bad I read it wrong, I figured *that* was the reason core kept dumping on me.
