  1. Good for Google! on Google Wins a Court Battle · · Score: 5, Informative

I may not agree with every decision Google makes, but all in all, I believe they're the closest thing we've got to a big business with a conscience. I mean they've got great potential to do some good, as this article points out. http://tcal.net/archives/2006/02/23/google-charity -plans/

But without getting too off track, I'm glad they won this battle. Because of their line of work and the innovative new steps they take, they're bound to step on a few toes. I just hope we don't smother them in too many lawsuits, both as indivduals and as a government.

  2. Is that for real? on UK Demands Sourcecode for Strike Fighters · · Score: 5, Insightful

Well, that's completely reasonable (note the sarcasm). It's insane to believe that we're even trying to withhold the code. I mean, would you buy a tv from a neighbor if they kept the remote? Chances are they'd hit the mute halfway through a Farscape rerun.

  3. This is a good plan? on This Week's Government Cyborg Animal · · Score: 4, Funny

I think everyone involved in cutting-edge military projects should be required to read a science-contract-gone-wrong fiction book their projects. The moment I read "army of cyber-insects" I thought of Michael Crichton's book, "Prey".

I mean, when does cyborg insects become a good plan for a means of communication? They've already developed a defense for that: A can of Raid.

  4. About the Delay... on Analysts React to PS3 Delay · · Score: 1

I'm really excited about the PS3. It looks like it will be a great system. However, I'm worried these delays might backfire much more than they suspect.

Bill Gates had previously stated he planned to release around the time of Playstation 3. Microsoft distanced themselves from those comments after it was apparent that Halo 3 wouldn't be ready in time, but with Playstation 3's delay this could once again become a threat to them.

I just hope that the PS3 will get its fair shot despite being released later than it was expected.

  5. Hmmm on An Overview of the IGF Finalists · · Score: 3, Interesting

I admit that I found this game entertaining. It's very addictive, and I played more than my share. Still, when I stop long enough to think about the actual setting of the game, it sickens me.

This type of game is not what the industry needs right now. Beating up bad guys is a part of the flash game stereotype. That said, beating up children wasn't necessary for the game's success. I would have just as much fun fighting ninjas, aliens, or evil robots bent on world domination.

I'd have to assume the only reason the game designer chose thise setting was for shock value (and thus more public interest). Either that, or he's got some issues to work out.

  6. This Depends... on Paying Subscriptions for MMOs with In-Game Ads? · · Score: 1, Interesting

This completely depends on the game. In some games, in some context, ads could almost add to the atmosphere. I'm not too familiar with this game in particular, but if they placed the ads on billboards in games so that you would see them as you drive by, I wouldn't mind. Real city streets have them, so why can't the MMO? Now, if they're too obtrusive, the company should tone them down. Especially since people are already paying good money to play.

On the other hand, if I see one advertisment in Guild Wars...

Please don't misunderstand my original comment. I'm not against PLaystation 3 in any way. I'm strictly a PC player, so i don't owe allegiances to any of the console products. I'm merely was trying to point out that the Playstation 3 will be released under circumstances far less than ideal. Further delay is only going to worsen this, because it gives Microsoft more time to prepare Halo 3, which Bill Gates had previously stated he planned to release around the time of Playstation 3. Microsoft distanced themselves from those comments after it was apparent that Halo 3 wouldn't be ready in time, but with Playstation 3's delay this could once again become a threat to them. I apologize if I made myself unclear. I'm still not sure anything I said in the original thread warranted a "Troll" moderation.

  9. It Makes Sense on Banned From WoW For WINE & Programmable Keyboard · · Score: 0

Just look at WOW's EULA and it makes sense. A programmable keyboard will let a user do essentially what several third-party programs would do. I don't see how they could possibly ban one and not the other. Looks like fans of the customizable keyboard are just gonna have to bite the bullet on this one.

  10. I'd vote fake... on WinXP on a Mac, Hoax? · · Score: 0, Redundant

Yeah, the man's reputation is strong. But those are pretty bad shots. Until he releases more details about how he's actually doing this. I'd have to say fake.

  11. Could be the end of playstation... on Sony's PS3 Strategy Brilliant or Insane? · · Score: 0, Troll

Between the awesome lead XBox 360 has been able to gain given its earlier release date, this may be the end of Playstation. The next-gen Playstation sounds like it is a potentially superior product. But on one side, there's XBox 360 and the potential release of Halo 3. On the other side, theres Nintendo Revolution and its very unique controller. If Playstation doesn't find something to set it apart from these other two consoles, I believe Playstation's days are numbered.

  12. Re:Two Words on Bioware Developing an MMOG · · Score: 1

With so many new MMOs coming out, I think that the Star Trek niche is one of the last potential heavy hitters. Theres still enough Trekies out there to make that successful. A few years back, I vowed not to pay for any MMO while there was still a good single player game out there. City of Heroes almost made me break that vow. A Star Trek MMO, if done right, will most certainly send me the way of the MMO. Especially if Bioware gives up on solid, single player RPGs in a quest to make the next WOW.

  13. This could be a bad thing... on Bioware Developing an MMOG · · Score: 2, Insightful

Bioware is one of my all time facorite RPG creators. But the MMOG is such a huge undertaking. Just look what it's done to Blizzard (aside from making them even richer). They've got a huge MMORPG fanbase, but for the moment it has seemingly nullfied any strong motive to create good solo RPG and RTS games. I can't blame Blizzard. I just hope Bioware doesn't follow down that road.
