It also makes us nice and easy to keep an eye on. All our activity now leaves a nice little easy to follow trail. Much nicer for the government to follow than before.

Well death of the author and all that, and it's an interesting idea, but I can't really see how this holds weight. It just seems as though the paper is reading far too much into this, and I'm saying this after just writing a paper on psychoanalysis..

Of course, miracles by their very nature cannot occur. If something 'miraculous' did occur, that violated the laws of nature/physics etc, then the laws would have to be changed to incorporate them. Therefore a miracle can never truly occur.

Depends if the sexual abstention was dealt with in a religious manner or not. If you're looking at it logically, then no sexual penetration = no babies, of course, which means purely statistically abstention will cause lower (i.e 0 ) unwanted pregnancies versus contraception. However, what we all know is by degrading condom use we are promoting the rise of std infection rates etc. Of course when religion is involved, then we get into muddy water :P

That most of our scientific advances were made with experiments that would now be classified as cruel. Particularly psychological, Zimbardo et al, Harlowe et al etc etc. Not suggesting that these are morally fine, but we should be careful about criticizing experiments that have contributed to our understanding. On a different note however, the experiments mentioned don't seem to have contributed an awful lot :P

Er, won't wikiscanner just move the corporate/political vandals to home? This is leaving out the fact that wikipedia will never be seriously trusted due to it's open nature, to be taken seriously requires it to close off public access and to change to specialised, academic authorship - something that would corrupt it's mission.
