  1. Bug Report on Steve Jobs Says PC Folks' World Is Slipping Away · · Score: 4, Funny

    Description:
Transitory phrase for incidental topic is ineffective.

    Actual Result:
By the way, what have you done that's so great?

    Expected Result:
One more thing... what have you done that's so great?

  2. Re:Steve held his own... on Steve Jobs Says PC Folks' World Is Slipping Away · · Score: 2, Insightful

I could've imagined that coming from Steve Ballmer

Well given Microsoft's tendency to "borrow" from Apple, I wouldn't be surprised if candid Ballmer responses to customer emails became ubiquitous.

  3. A good video explanation on Why Music Really Is Getting Louder · · Score: 4, Informative

This video explains the effects of audio compression quite clearly, albeit the sound quality is only what YouTube can allow.

why thanks, it's always good to know some random person on slashdot knows better how to spend my free time on than I do. Perhaps I should instruct you on how to spend your free time?

If you don't like the music from Doom, fine.
If you don't like the project we did, fine.

But saying we should've spent time on something else just because you don't like it, well... sorry you couldn't help posting that.

We recommend getting a BitTorrent client like Azureus that will allow you to only download the files you want.

    cheers.

  10. Re:Legal implications on DooM Remix Project - The Dark Side of Phobos · · Score: 5, Informative

Yeah, getting a cease-and-desist from Bobby Prince is much more likely than getting one from Slayer/etc..

The difference with vgmusic was they hosted the exact copies of Bobby Prince's material whereas we are providing derivative works.

Ocremix has been around for years, and we've had derivative works of Doom music on the site for years as well.

Bobby Prince has shown no animosity to ocremix in the past and I see it unlikely he will suddenly have a change of heart with the release of this project.
    cheers.

  11. Re:Legal implications on DooM Remix Project - The Dark Side of Phobos · · Score: 4, Informative

I worked on this project, I was one of the coordinators for a while.

The music of Doom has been around for 10+ years and while some tunes bear a striking resemblence to certain Slayer/Pantera songs, the copyright holders have not taken any legal action against id or Bobby Prince.

So yes, I looked into that particular legal implication. It took me all of 2 seconds to realize we have little to worry about.
    cheers.

  12. nope... on Kong in Concert - Donkey Kong Country Arrangements · · Score: 2, Informative

I'm guessing this is a buddy of someone on slashdot or VA, or they are paying for the advertisement.

well as one of the guys who worked on this project, I can tell you now, none of us know any of the slashdot editors.

I actually urged the project leader not to submit this story to slashdot -- because I've been here a while and I didn't feel this was slashdot material.

Looks like I was wrong! Maybe Hemos is a DKC fan :)

    cheers.

Hi, I'm one of the guys who worked on this project. (I did the ice cave track)

This project is not licensed. We didn't ask for permission.
This is a project done by fans, for fans.

Nintendo is 100% within their rights to send us a cease-and-desist order if they choose to. However, Nintendo has shown no animosity towards such projects in the past and I suppose they won't show any towards this one either.
But who knows? just enjoy the music. :)

    cheers.

Mr. Carmack, Releasing the source codes to classics such as Wolfenstien 3-D, Doom, and TED5, is what I admire most. Why not release the source code to all your old games in like an anthology? From Dangerous Dave, to Commander Keen 6? That would be rather cool.
