Exactly. And even if 2 survivors at three years is atypical for traditional treatment methods, how much does it really say given that the test group was so small?
"Furthermore, two study patients were still alive nearly three years after the treatment"... but what would the expected number of survivors be for a group that wasn't treated with this solution?
They almost make it sound like the patients survived the treatment.
Xen might be great in a limited number of applications, but for me VMWare just can't be beaten. I've tried both and am much happier with VMWare Server. Being able to shift VM's between Windows and Linux hosts is awesome. Having the same VM run without any modification under different host OS's, including Linux with all sorts of kernels, is a killer feature in my books. And the performance of VMWare is excellent for everything except graphical UI's.
The new processor features might change the landscape, but for now I think VMWare is clearly the more flexible and convenient solution.
If Apple and VMWare were to partner to release a free MacOS X virtual machine, it would allow Apple to get OS X into the hands of more prospective customers.
True. However, Mac OS X in a VM would probably seem quite slow due to all the eye candy. Given that, would it really be a good advertisement of OS X for Apple, and drive sales, or would it put people off OS X?
Perhaps people like you aren't Apple's primary market? $900 is arguably cheap for what you get, whether or not you personally value the differences between an iMac and your $300 FreeBSD machine.
Apple really should just get over themselves and release a system that's in line with today's computer prices
Why should Apple change a working business model to sell machines at the bottom end of the price scale? Seems to me there are already plenty of contenders down there, and it's the well-designed segment that's lacking (despite Apple's significant contribution).
I think I'd be pretty happy if people in general were a bit more tolerant, and a bit less full of themselves. That last sentence wound up making you look like a fool (since you were incorrect in your assumption) - how hard would it have been to post without it?
That looks promising. However it's not as good as a card that comes with a nice quiet cooling solution because:
1) you're effectively paying for two coolers (the stock one and the Thermaltake) 2) a good number of people who want a quiet graphics card would still be hesitant to pull bits off of theirs (even if it's easy for someone who knows what they are doing). 3) if the card dies you have the hassle of reinstalling the stock cooler before returning it.
The ASUS EN7800GT card mentioned by Rob above is just the sort of thing I was thinking of - good performance and absolutely silent. I just wish it was available in my country!:)
I'd rather see such cooling techniques used to make silent mid-range cards with good performance, rather than having it only available with hideously expensive high end cards.
True, but will Pacifica and Vanderpool eliminate the graphics performance issues? I've seen similar (poor) GUI performance from parallels on a Core Duo, which is supposed to be using VT-x according to the Wikipedia page...
Microsoft has quite a few products. Rewriting all that crap in.Net would be a pretty enormous job, and I can't imagine them releasing a new OS with something like Office (for example) only running in some virtual machine.
In my experience you get about a factor of 10 performance hit with the GUI inside virtual machines, perhaps larger if you turn on fancy eye-candy. That's for both VirtualPC and VMWare. Everything else seems to run really well (even hard drive access now), so they're awesome for servers, but having it be the only option for UI intensive apps wouldn't be so great.
I hope you're right - I'd love to see a new Microsoft OS which is free from the legacy hassles of Windows, but I can't see it happening in the near future.
OK, so the SGAE have managed to get a frightening and obviously silly law passed, and now the greedy corporations they represent can get more money from everyone. What concerns me, more than the law itself, is that this could be taken as a major stepping stone towards some pretty scary changes. Anyone care to preduct SGAE's future plans?
Ah! Thanks, that makes a lot more sense. On TradeMe in NZ a bid is just a single bid at the specified amount, unless you select "autobid" which behaves like you describe.
The trend of putting the "recovery" files in a hidden partition makes it a bit of a nuisance. My last laptop included no media at all, and didn't come with anything allowing you to do a clean install of XP.
It's all rather frustrating. You'd think the manufacturers focus would be on clean, fast, easy to use systems, rather than on near-useless extras that make their hardware seem slow.
While it's a far cry from misandry, it is a sexist way to get women interested. How can you specifically target women without descriminating based on gender (i.e. being sexist)?!
That link seems to be broken, but I'll keep trying.
I'm impressed that it can be done without my bank account details now! Those other guys needed all my bank account info to check for identity theft last time (and it was lucky I checked, because it turned out that my identy had been stolen!).

What justice are you talking about? How do you know that blindly handing over anything the police might like would further this justice?
Personally, I like the idea of a fair trial, innocent until proven guilty, laws to protect the rights of individuals and all that stuff.
As long as it's a random sample...
That's all well and good, as long as this can still happen:
Customer: I want to cancel my account
CSR: OK, can I ask why
Customer: No, I just want to cancel my account. I know what I'm doing, and I'm certain I don't want it.
CSR: No problem, it's done. Thanks. Bye.

With the video editing, is it just that the UI is more responsive?
You've added pretty much nothing to the discussion. I think the parent made some interesting claims. Why is (s)he so unforgivably wrong?
