My department ordered three Tablet PC's about six months ago for 3 of our maanagers. This has resulted in a change none of the employees expected but certainly enjoy. The managers have become the defacto note takers at meetings. None of them have spoken too loudly about benefits of the tablets.
You come home from a night out with the buds and the girlfriend or wife nags you about the alcohol on your clothes. Now you can claim they are washed and cleaned...
Please be serious. He may have instituted the policies to keep the site from being hacked, but certainly was not the man responsible for it. The people who worked under him and that are still working there are the ones who are doing that job.
Don't forget that the job he now has to do doesn't distinguish between network and software. It wraps them all into one, thowing hardware and various other IT technologies in the pot. So don't put him on a peddistool and call him a god before we've seen what he actually is capable of. Remember that this job involves reigning in his old emploters and convincing them to actually produce secure software that doesn't affect the Internet in general. Need I remind anyone of a certain MS SQL worm that affected everyone, including Microsoft's network last week?
How is this news? They are using "dd" a Linux utility. Seeing "Linux" in an article does not warrant a story about it. This demeans Linux by using every little scrap of news to attempt to show that it is in use. Instead we should be demostrating it's uses, rather that reporting that it is in use.
This talk of Bond reminds me of one thing I didn't like about the latest movie. It seemed to me like Halle Berry's character was intentionally placed in the movie to more or less create a spin off movie or spin off series. I hope I am wrong, but just the mere illusion of that intent lowered my high thought of the James Bond Franchise.
In related news, Microsoft decided today to Migrate to Linux and Mac OS X in order to cut down on it's own manufacturing prices. To stem this wave of migration, Microsoft sales reps have offered to cut prices which are currently at a market low of $0 to Microsft, down to -$100. This will be accomplished by reimbursing other customers of Microsoft.....
Something else is wrong if you're rebooting 4 or 5 times a week. MS has a bad track record, but so far I've heard XP doesn't crash that often.
Taking your kids towards linux has two benefits here. It can cost you as a consumer less and it will give your kids (with good guidance) a good start in learning about computers and what they are truly capable of.
The want to test it out in one market first before they exapnd to other markets. If it doesn't do well in the US, don't wait for it to show up in the UK.
Wait, this is the GRE, right? From the sounds of this, you woul dthink they only had a limited number of questions (say 100) in their pool and that they keep reusing the same questions. Doesn't that sound a little stupid? There must be a better reason for cancelling the GRE's at this point. Maybe there aren't enough students applying to get into Grad school for Computer Science. If they have run out of Questions, there are more than enough Computer Science Professors and Graduates to gather a pool of new questions from.
Based on the different University networks I have seen as of late, I completely understand why they implemented this. It's due to network saturation. Honestly, Faculty, Staff and Students sit there downloading multimedia of various sort using P2P filesharing programs as if their lives depended on it. As of late tell me if you don't notice that hint of latency in your network connection.
...how fast they get in the processor speeds. Nothing will make me give up my 286. It's still running and at this point worth every cent I spent on it and more.
...but not all that important. Why not focus on the continuous improvement of Linux and the advancement of Open Source. If we strive for those two things, take all criticism ina constructive manner, there will be no need to worry about other OS's and other systems that we already know aren't up to par.
Then you'll be forced to use a pen and paper to reacquaint you with humanity. That will then be followed by a life altering course where you learn the meaning of life without AOL. Then you join the workforce and realize that AOL or not you have more important things in life to worry about (eg. Love)
The story implies in part that users are wising up to the point that they don't need the extra power to use their apps. I respectfully disagree with that. I want a new machine right now, but the money has other uses in todays economy that are more important for me to deal with. For example, paying off certain bills that are now garnering higher interest rates. True, my current machine is capable of doing what it NEEDS to do. Alas, were this the economy of two years ago, I would be getting a machine that could do what I WANT it to do. CNN has it partially right, but they should accomodate all the factors and not just a singular one.
Well, shouldn't AMD do something to fix that stigma? Your saying it, won't change people's minds. Get AMD to do something to show that they are equal if not better than Intel.
My 486 cried as I read this news. That's it, my 286 is coming back to life. The two of them together can last me another 6 months before I consider buying my first penttium;)
Soon cell phones will follow the same route as Smoking. Cell phones will be banned in public places, thus leaving users the option of using their phones outside of buildings. Heck they'll have Cell phone trash cans outside buildings for people to throw their old cell phones and minute cards in;)
What are we to expect from one of two major Monopolistic Industries. They want to run and control everything in order to charge as exhorberent a price as they can. The industry has lost the one true point that you sell to the consumer what s/he wants and not tell the consumer what s/he wants.

Or could it have been Connor Mcleod of the clan Mcleod?

*beep beep beep beep*
Damn stupid alarm, why did you wake me up!!!
Cars weigh more and thieves still go for them. The point is, these things have wheels and no thief will resist such a take ;)
So what is the Anti-theft system like? Wait, does it have one? Is it easier for a bike to be stolen or your Segway?

It's called beta testing of the costly kind :-)

What would you recommend for the bigger networks out there?
What we need is something similar to the "truth.com" capaign to tell the truth about the RIAA and such. Imagine the effect :)

Speeds should be measured by overall system performance, not the speed of the CPU.

Ha! That's not a good vcr. My Betamax is still up and running ;)
