At least Apple is making a vague attempt at bringing things back home with the A5 chip plant in Texas opening soon. With crossed fingers I have been suspicious it is part of a broader initiative on there part to slowly bring even more back to the good old USA.

I am really confused about this. My Android handset was made in China under Foxconn like condition if not at Foxconn itself. If we are going to boycott Apple on this, shouldn't we boycott every Android handset\tablet, along with a shit ton of other electronics that we all know and use daily?

Seriously, I don't understand why boycott just apple on this. Shouldn't we boycott ALL chinese manufactured electronics? A broader movement maybe?

I'm sure I am missing something here. Are there any screenshots, videos, or other demos of a new touchscreen paradigm refined Plasma interface?

  5. Nothing new (metadata index) on Ubuntu 12.04 To Include Head-Up Display Menus · · Score: 0

Sounds to me like all application and file metadata is being written to an index and then that index is read really freakin fast causing the list of apps\files to repopulate with each keystroke in real time. I've had this built into OS X my Mac (spotlight) for many years and it is infinitely useful (not trying to be a mac troll, I'm just sayin). I almost never have to browse for an app or file. You could literally have thousands of txt files named Untitled.txt spread all over your hard drive, as long as you can remember two consecutive words in the actual file you want it will reliably be pulled it up instantly. I very rarely have to type more than two letters for the application I want to pop up at the top of the list right away. It's good stuff!

There is a really good wikipedia article on it here:

"...there is very little merit to the physical textbook, and the education industry has been waiting for a viable solution like this for some time. Physical textbooks lack portability, durability, accessibility, consistent quality, interactivity and searchability, and they're not environmentally friendly"

Seriously, go to apples website and watch their promo video (it actually is pretty cool) You will find that the summary was largely directly lifted. Are you trying to use these as your own words? They are not used in the story so...

A couple of years ago we had a story like this. I can't seem to find it so if anyone else can... (maybe it wasn't even slashdot) Anyway, that story had linked to it a video of an actual full scale "house printer". It was a time lapsed video of an experimental home printer building a two story house complete with wiring (but I don't think plumbing at the time) in about a week. The end result was a rather fantastic two-story house made largely of concrete. It was rather impressive. The downside was the technology of the time was expensive and was really still alpha.

Anyhow, I appreciate why there will be a lot of naysayers; it's understandable for something so dramatic. The bottom line is that this technology is inevitable one way or the other. Five to ten years? I say yes.

Is it part of the arrogance of those electing themselves to write and editing articles on wiki that they refuse to use a spell checker, or is it that the words are simply unknown to the normal spell-check dictionaries?

I find occasional misspellings in mainstream news articles as well (and I am by no means a natural born speller).

But most maddening to me is the "they're their there" errors, and similar wrong word usage. Spell checkers offer little help in catching these, but a 6th grade education usually suffices.

Maybe the same people who wont waist there time checking they're spelling also cant be bothered to use the write word. ;-)

I find this absolutely fascinating. As someone who has spent some time in a guitar repair shop this makes a lot of sense. Or if it doesn't, it is at least not without some sense. I took a look and the Praxis Zero looks absolutely wicked. To have one of those on stage would draw endless praise and positive attention (speaking from the level of the local scene in a big town). A modular guitar is a great idea as I wouldn't have to "fret" so much over specs as I choose my next axe. Rather, I could just change the specs on my one machine. All makes and models of guitars sound different than all other makes and models - this I don't have to explain to you the particulars of. If I could transform my p-bass into a j-bass for one gig without having switch to a whole different kit that would be great. At the very least it would have a strong and worthwhile nitch. Unfortunately, I have no answers and only questions but I wanted to back you up that this isn't a dumb idea. Will there be a bass centric version?

I really feel you on this one. I agree with Ron Paul on so much but I vehemently disagree with him on some fundamental issues that are close to me and represent some of my hottest buttons. This election season has led me to a new conclusion: as a voter I cannot have my cake and eat it too. If I agree completely with a candidate, something is wrong.

I have decided (grudgingly) that those issues where I agree with him due in fact take precedent over areas where I consider him to be completely backwards. As a rabid left winger (voted for Obama) I never ever thought it would come down to this but as it stands I would vote for him over Obama, Hillary, or any other Democratic hopefuls we will probably see in the coming months. I know I still need to listen to them before I can really make a decision but I have little faith in being presented with anything but the same-old-same-old. Maybe someone will change my mind but Ron Paul is radically different and we need someone radically different.
