  1. The very first sentence in the article talks about AMD Ryzen taking advantage of DDR4 on the AM4 chipset platform. The only reference to the i5 is a statement that an i5 platform was used to overclock the memory to 4500Mhz. At the end of the article the question is posed as to how much this type of kit will cost while also referring again the 4500Mhz overlocking.

So it's basically awkwardly written article with a summary that is trying its best.

I just wonder why they used an i5 setup for the overclocking and not an i7 (or Ryzen). I suppose there must be some super special i5 only motherboard out there that makes it possible? This should have be explained in the article.

  2. I am debating as to whether or not this would look good on a resume, namely cyber crime\penetration testing type stuff. I would at least find it intriguing. Some of the crimes they committed indicate they were expecting to be released at least in the next few years. I suppose that will no longer be the case.

  3. I worked for a software company who's flagship application, which was medical related, was written entirely in Logo. Apparently, early on someone slapped together some prototyping to show management. Management being management proceeded to dictate that the entire application actually be written in Logo. I could not believe it, yet there it was.

  15. I've been doing some digging into ArcaOS and have found several articles about it going back as far as four years. What I cannot find are screenshots. Every time I find an article with screenshots, the screenshots are of eCommstation. I can't even find screenshots on their website. You would think they would be wanting to drum up excitement with not just a few "look at these features" pre-release screenshot but also a YouTube video to be picked up by tech sites. Maybe they just suck that bad at marketing, but otherwise something does not seem right here.

  17. I would like you to share your experiences on BYOD on Ask Slashdot: What's the Best Working Environment For a Developer? · · Score: 1

You pretty much nailed it right there. The last time (and I mean I am never going back, different story) I was in that situation, there was no problem with me bringing in my own kit. I had my own System76 laptop, used Awesome WM, and so on. The key is that I was able to demonstrate that my preferred way of doing things was fundamentally compatible with doing what I needed to do with everyone else. I had to do some hacking to get that done, but that was allowed itself. Okay, so I suppose an environment with thousands of developers working together (???), things may need to stretch a bit, but when you talk of internal dev environments you hit another nail. You are asking for openness that will allow people to use their brains as individuals most effectively while also using their brain effectively with oh so many others. What you need is a voice. What you need is a platform whereby all those different voices can come to a consensus on what can and can't be for work to be effective outside of what the overlords give you under their best intentions. With all that said, you need a voice the overlords will listen to. There, I have no advice.

This is the height of dumnfuckery and makes the whole project look bad. How does making the project look bad fit in with values of the project? Because that is what Dries is doing.

Alternative: There is some serious bad blood between the two and Dries is acting like a child trying to find a shred of anything to get rid of Larry and is making himself and the project look bad in the process.

As a nerd who is insistent on trying out the myriad of this-and-that technologies, I had a Windows phone a couple years ago. It was a fairly high end HTC device. While the interface is unique, the more I began to use it, the more it became obfuscated. It reached a point where it went from fairly cool and useable to finding myself lost on my own phone. Here I speak of the tiles and such. One thing I have noticed over the years, is that the elderly, who expect and do much less with and from their phones than myself, seem to have become the dominate user base. And yes, I do peek over shoulders just to see what platform different demographics are using. For me, Windows phone lasted a good couple months before going back to Android. I do not regret the experiment. But whatever they are planning with this surface phone, it had better be.... different in a good way.

I will say this: I have a Windows 10 tablet. It is running a quad-core Cherry Trail with 4 gigs of ram. Quite simply, it is the best tablet experience I have ever had. It has a "tablet mode", but just using regular old Windows 10 on a tablet is pretty nice.

Disclaimer: I own several tablets and they all have their uses (security cameras, persistent weather info, etc...) but my next favorite tablet is my Amazon Fire. It is simply the best for content consumption. It plays in my shop all day. I do not expect this post to be popular.
