About 5-6 years ago, I decided that it would be a good idea to build a small application on a flash drive, that is, code and compile it directly to the drive.
After what must have been hitting compile a few hundred to a thousand times, the 128MB thumb drive starting giving me drive write errors and then stopped responding altogether within about a minute after errors starting appearing.
I think the moral of this story is backup your data, even when it's on a flash based drive, and don't code directly on a cheap thumb drive:)
Don't the torrent networks disallow MPAA use? That would mean on connection that the MPAA is in breach of contract, they're not law enforcement agents and presumably don't have a warrant of the court??
It would be impossible to breach the contract of a website outside of the US, I believe(I am curious myself, so someone correct me if I'm wrong), however you can use Peer Guardian for some basic protection from connections from places such as MediaSentry.
And, yes, there has been questions raised before about XXAA & MediaSentry getting/not having a private investigator license: http://delta.techdirt.com/blog/index/articles/20090219/0135273829.shtml
Exactly. Is public key crypto broken enough to need to spend any money to switch over to QKD? For that matter is public key crypto over the internet broken?
From the QKD guy in the article: "Conventional cryptography is exposed to threats from advances in computing power that provide for brute force attacks," As long as you stay up to speed (ie. keeping your key sizes up to standards), I don't see how this is an issue...
On page 155-156 there are a series of stories on possible accidental data leaks that could have occurred. My personal favorite is the one where two NSA sweep people get into a tug-of-war over a wire in a wall between floors:)
From what I can gather from the comments and the article, this could become a stable fissionable reaction which would, hypothetically(assuming you can build up and store this stuff) produce an almost unlimited amount of energy? or is the gold(if there are no alternatives)/energy consumptions be too great?
If you can make a commitment to your future that will earn you more money down the road then why not?...
And as for America as a whole, as my Diffy-Q's teacher says "There is a student somewhere in Siberia learning his Diffy-Q's, getting better grades than you, and someday he will try to take your job, you have to stop that."... I like my Diffy-Q's teacher:)
I was looking at the information on the I saw the "throw distance" of 1.9... and I started to think that this device could only be throw 1.9 meters and how I could totally throw it further.
just a idea, probably has been tried and failed, but anyhow: I know a lot about how path prediction works through delta timing, but for a game that relies on timing as heavily as Tron wouldn't it be possible to build the reverse of that and instead of predicting where the player is, don't allow them to move until they've registered where the other player is at that time. With a lot of lag though this would definitly make the game unplayable however. Just out of curiosity, is there any way that anyone can think of that to cure,or make less visible lag, without making a game like TRON unplayable? or for that matter the answer to life, the universe and everything?:)
o my....story time... The phrase of the day is "superuser" This data was given to many professional online poker players who analyzed the data in late 2007 (see 1 year ago, 10/16/07 to be exact) when they requested the data from the online site "Absolute Poker".
Instead of the site giving them the usual data which hid the opponents cards unless they had shown them during the hand, they sent all the raw data which included the opponents hole cards, and specifically every player and spectators player number. One of the spectators was player number "363" I believe which was incredibly low (one of the first ever to register on the site).
When designing the software they must have used several "superuser" accounts to make sure that it was working correctly, so they let it see all the cards on the table. Someone inside Absolute Bet discovered(or knew they entire time) that the loophole was still open and used multiple accounts to siphon hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars off of their high stakes users. This was used also over other websites running the same backend software.
What made this so obvious, simply put, to the high stakes players was that these players were playing perfectly over thousands of hands which isn't possible unless you know all the cards on the table.
this isn't even coded correctly in blitz3d...
When you align the portals they flicker because blitz3d cannot handle 3d objects right on top of each other. The easiest fix for this is to move the portals.001 "blitz3d distances" away from the wall.
... my copy of blitz3d is lost but there definitly right about using it to create quick 3d stuff
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak for me.
this corollary is getting more and more true by the day.

These books are amazing for random ideas, in my opinion. Story time: Not to give a random plug or anything, but a while back I read a PHP cookbook (2006ish) and it had a small section on a plugin called "Ming" which can generate flash animations without using proprietary tools. I took what little was available on the web and (for the past 2 years) have been developing http://www.icanimate.com/ which allows users to generate animations(in a java applet) which can be played back in a flash animation(through PHP&Ming) which is stored in a mysql database in a script(text, not image based). I've mostly used the development of this website as a project for my academic programing classes(teachers love this integrated stuff). Gotta love cook books:)
This is just a bit ridiculousness, you cannot actually expect to find anything of use for national security, anything of that nature, I'd imagine, would be sent over an encrypted channel into/out of the US.
The only thing that they are doing are searching, without warrant, American citizens for "contraband data", and combine that with the current state of our copyright system, you can probably find cause to confiscate every single piece of modern electronics coming over the border.
Go truecrypt 5:)
Wouldn't it be possible that the US government is setting up the cable system around Iran so that all traffic is routed through the US, as previously posted somewhere? Then blocking traceroutes in and out of Iran so nobody knows where exactly there traffic is going between here and there? The effectively having full unknown access to all of Iran's connectivity?
Tin Foil Hat ftw
There were moderately credible going around the campus that I'm on (26K+ students) that all student phone calls were monitored by a single FBI agent. What a horrible job, he must have done something to get placed there, we could just that Simpsons scene of homeland security agents intently listening to students calling there parents complaining about how horrible college was:) We also found a new prank: using the phones in random rooms to yell "terrorist buzz words" into.

Let's hope that SS's claims are true. This would eliminate the need for hydrogen cars as well (water vapor is another major greenhouse gas).
God forbid water vapor should be in the air!

It helps reveal the math underlying Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulations, telling applied mathematicians when they can stop their simulations.
Please! Stop your simulations already! Think of the Children!
