    And, if the network is nearing overload, it will refuse calls but still allow textmessages. If the load gets even worse, not even textmessages will go through, possibly to maximize the chances of 911-calls actually working.

    Depends on where in Europe. Right now the prices in Norway are pretty high (relative), at about EUR 0.12 (USD 0.16)/kWh. One year ago, the price was one third of this. Water-generated electricity FTW :)

    In either case, the thought of applying 10kV (1kV/mm for 1cm) to each fuel line gives me the creeps. I know there's very little (if any) oxygen inside the fuel line to ignite it but if a leak were to start.... eek.

    Ever tried lighting diesel on fire? You'll need compression ;)

    Add weight into the equation. Newer cars are way heavier due to safety equipment and luxury stuff.

    The "evil, DRM-infested, locked-down, defective-by-design iPhone" does that for you... Just hook it up to your Vista (!) pc and you will be prompted to download any new pics, even before iTunes started up

    Unfortunately, that's the only fucking way to get half-way decent pictures off of the iPhone. Unlike all my other phones (even 4-5 year old ones), the iPhone can't send a picture over Bluetooth. It can send pictures via Mail though, but it fucking resizes them to 640x480!
    I've got an iPhone 3G, SE K810i and HTC TyTN II. iPhone can't do much more than send and recieve SMS, send and recieve calls, and send text emails. Both my other phones have no problems out-featuring the iPhone.

    Unfortunately, even bands with talent has record labels stuffing crap to fill up their CDs. Extremely few artists have 100% control of what is put on their CD.

    Afaik, EMIs releases on iTunes are also available DRM-free (albeit possibly with a small premium).
    I like EMI.

    You ask me to come up with an analogy, yet fail to come up with a suitable example.
    Is you the ultimate authority on morals? Laws can be changed if there are good enough reasons to do so. I fail to see how it can be even remotely possible that murder will be legalized. Otoh, software patents might be outlawed later on.

    Even if he was aiming for the ethics, his analogy stinks.
    Aggressive patenting for defensive purposes is (unfortunately) common, and almost necessary to survive among the "big guys". Serial killers are neither common nor forced to kill.
    This whole patenting a lot of shit isn't necessarily Evil(TM). Even OSS guys do it. Are the OSS community serial killers now?

    And in case I have to spell that out more, any big company these days who has anything to do with software are going to file software patents whenever they think they might possibly be able to get one.

    Google Chromes V8 engine can compile to x86 and ARM targets. ARM is in the majority of phones. I don't think it'll take Google very long to get Chrome "good enough". Infact, I'm pretty sure they'll release Android with Chrome on the HTC "Dream", to be released in Q4.

    My '86 MB cuts the fuel if the rpm is >2000 and my foot is off the pedal, ie engine braking. Saves me a fair bit of fuel ;)

    When I went to (what I believe is the Norwegian equivalent of) college back in '95-'96ish, I hacked into the Novell network they had. Twice. The head principal wanted to throw me out for a week and give me a failing grade. My teacher on the other hand, negotiated a much better deal seeing as I did show interest in classes (it happened during IT classes), and that I learnt by myself. The end result was that I was thrown out for a day and got an A in IT.

    Wasn't one of the "great things" with Vista that the drivers were moved to userspace?
