If they control drones overseas, what about the lag time between signal from the pilot and action by the drone? Does a delay here just not matter with drones?
I once lived in an apartment complex that was under a landing flight path. The noise didn't bother me during the day, but only in that place, I frequently had dreams of luggage, wheels, engines, and other airline debris falling into our unit. I never even considered a complete plane dropping out of the sky.
I had AT&T in California and Verizon in both CA and NV, and Verizon was definitely better - almost no issues, where AT&T was terrible. I didn't travel extensively (mainly the bay area and Incline Village), but I would certainly avoid AT&T, and I would actually recommend Verizon,
"this has entailed the big two cola producers to modify their recipe to decrease"
They both use the same recipe? Or does nobody copy-edit anything anymore?
I must be a moron, but similar to a lot of other smart people. Have you ever heard of the golden billion? Do you really think there are enough resources for 7+ billion? Do you really think people will change their lifestyles? Wait a second, who is the moron here? Seriously, no offense taken, just a difference of opinion. In the interest of the planet, I am honestly willing to let 75% of my family go. Yes it would be painful, but not as painful as what I see coming. Learn to swim (where swim is not literal - check Tool lyrics).
I did not remember that ending, but the cause of that conflict was different. My real problem is overpopulation. Until we deal with that, random death seems like a good solution. Right now, it's targeted death for specific regions/cultures/etc.
I really don't see how that's in anyone's best interest (I would prefer wholesale population reduction without deformities and pain), but I respect your right to an opinion. I personally think that something like that episode of the original star trek where drafted people walk into a room of death and call that a war is probably one of the best solutions.
As an American, I don't think we can ever repay our debt to Viet Nam. They're still dealing with the toxins and other leftovers now (especially the children), and they can't sue anyone. The things that are done in the name of our country, our ethnic heritage, our historic religion, our "democracy", our capitalism...sometimes it's hard to live with ourselves.
Nowadays, reading slashdot is like watching TV news - it feels like checking the Internet wayback machine, even if things are only a day or even a few hours old. Maybe that's why "news for nerds" is gone - slashdot topics are almost never new anymore (more like advertisements, almost feeling desperate sometimes).
I didn't write that I hadn't seen some serious lameness (often in people's taglines) - but I think this is really one of the lamest of the lame. Then again, I generally don't read idle and comments that haven't been moderated up.
"It's good to know that even a single celled [sic] creature is not immune to the pull of Farmville"
I've been reading this site for years - never expected to see something that lame.
That is a total BS generalization. I taught myself several programming languages before I started college. I might not have had real-world experience, but I knew a hell of a lot - I was teaching my professors things. And at that age, I had no wife, no children, no real life. I was more willing to put in longer days, evenings, weekends, travel, etc. than I am today, and for exempt employees, that really counts. In my first job after college, I was amazed at the lack of skills in the general workforce, which was considerably older than I was.
Sure, I got better with time. But not *that* much better. I also got more demanding, and in some ways lazier. And every day I get closer to the age where I don't want to learn, have more health issues, need to take time off to watch my kids, go to doctors.
Age should not be a factor, but a lot of other variables can depend on age.
Thanks. No specific concerns/worries today, just a lot of fear from reading the media. He's ahead on most milestones, behind on a few others, but in general seems really sharp. The physical normative graphs seem based on obsolete information (he is always above 90th percentile on height and weight, but I often see larger children), so I also worry that the milestone lists are wrong. I guess my biggest concern is that his rate of progress will change or reverse.
As the parent of a boy at 14-months and the brother of a parent of a child with a severe disorder somewhere on the relevant spectrum, the kind of regression you describe scares the crap out of me (he's fine...for now). At what age did you first notice signs? Do you know the average age of detection? Two Caucasian parents? Obviously there is nothing I can say to reduce your grief, and I almost apologize for asking these questions.
Seems like an early step in rewriting history.
I seem to remember Nostradomus or someone predicting that in the end times, everything will offend someone. Political "correctness" seems to fit the bill.
Such as on an airplane? Or when my router needs a reboot? Or when my ISP fails periodically? Why would I want this? Are there no security implications? Consumers might be that stupid, but techs should not be.

Not "too many notes"?
During romantic mode.
Call my DSL ISP for tech support and they tell me to unplug the phone on which I'm talking to them.

I would like to patent the very idea of patenting a BS idea.
I'll make it easier for you: http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/Tool/Aenima.html

Back in '96 or '97, any time I saw "applet initializing" in the status bar, I knew the browser was about to hang or crash.
I don't think it's the design - I think it's the [historic] content.

I mean, if they're going to take the car anyway...

You keep on slappin' that bass.
