Have you considered using XBMC? It uses mplayer and ffdshow and has a nifty interface. It has mouse, keyboard, and remote support... And it's available for win, mac, lin, and xbox.

I have, but i still can't figure out how to add network media. There is this weird interface with two explorer-like things. Why two? I don't know, but when i try to add a network folder it wants some samba crap and it doesn't make any sense. I just want to navigate to my network places and click on my "media" folder, but I can't seem to do it. Haven't tried a new version, but it was pretty bad before. I'm sure i could look it up and figure it out, but bad UI's irritate me.

    Spacebar pauses.

Of course it does, but generally i keep my keyboard stowed when using my Media Center. The mouse is small so I keep it with the remotes, and I would be nice if I could just click on the frame, which I've grown accustomed to. And besides, nothing happened when you click the frame. *something* useful should happen there, it's a very simple UI point. Who thought *nothing* was a useful function? Maybe people who keep accidentally clicking the screen? I have no idea.

Eh, VLC is okay. I've found it to be more processor intensive when decoding MKV's than Media Player Classic - to the point where the old PC i repurposed as a media center can play 1080p movies just barely smoothly in media player classic, but it chokes if i need to use VLC (media player classic has options for choosing an audio stream but never actually shows more than one stream! grr).

I also HATE that VLC doesn't let you click on the frame to pause. Nothing happens when you click on the frame, so why not pause! Having to navigate to the little pause button every time is lame.

ALSO hate that even in full screen, the progress bar stays small, so I don't have much resolution when i want to skip back a little.

So yeah, best player ever? meh. It's nice, and i love all the transcoding features etc. is has, but that's not media playing, that's something else. As a media player, VLC is just ok.

Really. Who gives a shit? Nobody should.

This is just a TLD, which is obviously run by some governing body in Ireland. They get to choose what they want on the TLD, and I assume at some level it is supported by the politicians.

Now, if there are people that feel oppressed in Ireland, they can simply get a domain at a different TLD. They could also just move out of Ireland. That's a choice too.

The real problem is when Irish ISPs start blocking other TLDs and controlling what domains people can resolve on their networks. Then of course come all the blogs and posts about proxies/TOR/Freenet/OpenDNS.

Maybe I am triviliazing the issue, but being restricted on possible domains on a TLD that only applies to a single country does not seem as big of an issue as actually interferring with what traffic can reach a country. It's large scale censorship such as the Great Firewall in China that should be more concerning than this.

If the Irish people feel that they are being oppressed and it is a free speech issue, then they need to address that with their politicians. It's still largely ineffective.

It's still a government trying to tell its people what words they should and should not see, which is censorship and something to notice and oppose.

The argument is that people should not be encouraged to want to see nude children, or they might seek out more of this and actually create new harm against a child.

Additioanlly most of us have/will have sex, while most won't even have a chance to gun people down. This makes it easier for violence to be isolated into the pure fantasy realm.

When i grew up, I was allowed to see all kinds of violence, but no sex, when watching movies. My best friend was allowed to see all kinds of sex, but not violence.

We turned out pretty much the same (and my exposure to violence absolutely didn't mess me up, i'm generally a pacifist, even though i am strong enough to win fights), though for likely unrelated reasons he's not as socially skilled as most people.

But yeah, i think it's a crapshoot what your parents decide. I know my mom was a victim of sexual abuse when she was younger, that might be why she tried to hide me from sex, or maybe it has nothing to do with it.

Either way, sex and violence don't bother me, i still haven't seen the watchmen but i can't wait!

The article boldly claims that something released yesterday has arrived two weeks before the official patch. Now, i know it's possible that the two weeks was taken from Adobe's projected patch fix date, but projections and fact are still different, and journalistic integrity requires a writer in this situation to indicate directly that this two weeks is not actually fact, as we couldn't know that yet. The headline is an outright lie, as far as i can tell, as it relies on future events being a certain way.
