    All of the properly compliant webbrowsers that I've seen are still far to eager to render non-standard code. Clearly they do not deserve the same amount (or even order of magnatude) of blame, but this leniency certainly isn't helping the situation.

    I think as we see an increase in cellphone usage for common internet tasks, the "out of band" benefits of this scheme are going to be lost for many people.

    What is it with governments and hubris?

    This absurdity comes from bureaucracies where blame and shame for failure will never make it back to the person who really deserves it. Someone got a bonus for throwing in the word "unhackable" but when it turns into a debacle everyone will just blame someone else until people forget about it. Zero accountability.

    That probably is his point. Many people don't have a clear concept of what exactly a "distribution" is, and expect different distros to be about as different as Mac OSX and Windows are.

    Does the package/update system, and all the slick config stuff that all the distros have matter? Of course, but they really are all quite similar on a deeper level.
