I seem to recall there is a way to use the magnets and rotating disc inside a hard drive to design a kind of Wankel rotary engine. Now *where* did I see this...? What you need is a bunch of magnets to power the disc, and one or perhaps two electromagnets to work as "spark plugs", to make the disc spin on. You also need software or software-controlled hardware to control WHEN the electromagnets should kick in, and in what sequence. Just like the electronics that control the dual spark plugs in a Wankel. Good, eh?
And also you get the new version pre-installed when you buy a new Mac. So why all the moaning? Pointless, in my opinion. I am personally VERY happy there is such a thing as Apple in the world, the only company I know of that actually cares about the user experience. Quit ragging on about "it's not FOSS" and blah blah blah, and instead enjoy the ride. We have a first class ticket to the future. Peace, out.
Because it's a damn good and user-friendly operating system, with a large user base and a vibrant developer community and thousands of professional and home user applications. That's why.
Windows 95 sucked giant testicles. It was inferior to Apple's System 7, and it was a poor joke compared to IBM's OS/2 Warp 3, and Gates knows it. The only reason Microsoft emerged from the dredge of civilization was that IBM and Apple were run by business suits who knew precious litte about technology or the needs of the average user.
Sorry to ruin this beautiful joke, but no, sadly, cats (not even felis catus, the domestic variety) can't digest fruit or vegetables, only meat and fish. Certainly not apples. Their digestive system is just too specialized.
You are probably right. Dodgy RAM (or bad hard drives) is about the only thing that can make OS X fail. What happens is people are not very cautious when they install it, don't care about that thing called "static electricity" and so on. Then the machine starts acting up... and they wonder why? The same is true for Windows or Linux machines of course.
This has never happened to me, and I have been using OS X since OS X 10.2 Jaguar (but Panther, Tiger and Leopard have been even more solid). You probably just have bad RAM. Use Apple Hardware Test (extended test mode) to verify that nothing is wrong. It has got to be a hardware problem. Or why don't you bring it to an Apple authorized service provider if the machine is still under warranty?
That's right: ban it. Maybe it's time for government intervention. I am slightly overweight myself and I hate it. Flabby fat is so unattractive and also bad for your heart, causes diabetes etc. I have no idea how to go about losing weight, but I have at least started doing something about it: 1) NO bread, very little pasta and NO French fries. 2) I bicycle to work every day excerpt if it's much too cold or if there there is a heavy rain. That's a start, but not nearly enough. The next step, I think, is to learn about how to live a healthy life. If you live in the west, have a car and a comfortable life, you are liable to become fat, complacent and lazy, and it's time to break that habit.
I think Microsoft should keep Ballmer as CEO. He is a miserable failure. In the 1940s, the British MI6 had plans to assassinate Hitler during an opera performance, a sports event or similar, but they decided against it since they were afraid someone *competent* might replace the utterly useless Führer. It's a similar situation with Ballmer, minus the assassination bit, obviously.
The only way to store data for more then 1,000 years is to inscrive it in on virtually indestructible materials, such as granite or basalt. These will last for thousands of years. The rune stones in Scandinavia were made in 800-1300 AD and they are still more or less unchanged. They also have pictures. The stelea (stone slabs) in Egypt are some 4,000 years BC and still intact. What we need is a laser printer that writes on stone surfaces...
Sadly, it seems the internet brings out bad manners and bad language. And it shows how very immature some people can be. All I want is for people to think before they post, and please use a civil tone of voice. Harsh words will never get you anywhere in the world.
Retarded...? What are you on about? I don't appreciate your misuse of the English language, either. This is a public site, so maybe you should try to keep it clean, no?
I don't think the new model will cause problems for the resellers. The iPhone is not sold in every European country; so far only Britain, Germany and France, I believe. In any case, it's not as if there are 500,000 to 600,000 iPhones laying around in the warehouses and on store shelves. There are few unsold iPhones out there, and those who remain can easily be cleared out in a sale. A new model is of course a good thing - a natural progression. I am very happy for Apple and customers worldwide.
I would be VERY worried if I heard the aircraft I was in ran Windows... VERY, very worried! It's hilarious when you think about it from a distance, but once in the air... "NononononOOOOOOOO! Please don't cr...!"
All the great and creative guys get new jobs and we keep getting the fat, lazy, useless, nerd blobs as "replacements", the guys nobody else wants maybe. Things aren't going well right now. But in the end it's a management problem, and at one point it will sort itself out or the company will die.
And please don't laugh at my use of the word "Wankel". That's very naughty, you know, since the inventor was German and that was his real name.

This has been modded up 5 for "insightful", which is nice, but I would have preferred if people would post responses in agreement or disagreement.

You could use it as a giant paper clip holder, or to stick bits of paper to a very large refrigerator.
Yes, omnivorous in the sense "I eat everything". Cats, however beautiful and sophisticated, eat only dead things.

Do as you wish. For most people, I believe Finder is good enough.

...templates for Word, Excel etc, and use those instead of the default formats. Standardization is a war Microsoft can't win, not any more.

Guess what? Those files are small and don't do any harm.

Just get rid of them. Who wants old computers around their home?

Or just one more reason not to commit crimes.

Maybe it's you trying to force me to accept something I find repulsive and uncivilised? There are at least two sides to every coin.
