"The simplest answer I have heard is, they released it as 4.0 to get developers to start using it."
That is a credible reason - whats the point of having the desktop ready with no apps for it?
Perhaps detractors/trolls have a different understanding of credible.
"KDE had no credible reason for releasing it as 4.0"
Yes they did. it was for the owners of KDE3 apps to start porting to KDE4. The only time you get any real traction/motivation is to release something - even Linus has stated that in similar words regarding the kernel.
"people of course have certain expectation when software gets released" - yes but if they were able to read and comprehend then there would not be all this cr*p written about 4.0
4 F**ks sake......
4.0 was a developers release for application developers to sart porting their own apps - it was slated as such and not a release for users
It just seems there are load of people who couldn't read or understand what was said.
I'm not a KDE developer, I'm just a user and i managed to understand what 4.0 was all about.
I'm sick to death about still reading people's mis-conceptionsabout 4.0 due to their own mis-intepretation for 4.0, I hate to think what the actual developers feel.
"Windows application and/or driver installation requires the application/package and a double-click. " and click and click and click and click etc......
"Each had its own quirks" surprise surprise, different distro's, different installers.... i've seen different installers on Windows in the past.
"almost all of which required shell commands. (In fact, I believe all required it.)" - are you talking about 15 years ago or out of your a**? I've never ever had to use the shell to install a program unless i got the source code of a program that was not packaged by opensuse.
How about putting the turbine on the inlet pipe that fills the cistern rather than (or as well as) the outlet? And/or perhaps on the main water pipe into the house? They would have quite a bit of pressure to spin a turbine although i'm not sure if that would create some pressure issues on the rest of the system supplying the street.
Would a few of the small power generating ideas combine to create one reasonable power source?
I think its always better to have a few sources of power generation in case one craps out. I don't like all my eggs in one basket apart from my 2 personal ones.
But how many of those PCs are still running Vista? A large percantage of them are probably running Linux or XP now because you had to suffer a purchase of a new PC that was only sold with Vista.
I'll second that, using the latest fad in the most inappropriate way. Is there an IT equivalent of the Darwin Awards for the most stupid ideas i.e. XML for Config files?
All entrants would be hung by their gonads (or whatever is necessary to make their eyes water) from a very high building until they saw the error of their ways.
"No. Throw chairs!" Don't - its probably patented
