I am not aware of all of California's taxes (in NJ our income/property taxes are reversed from yours it seems). Sales taxes tank too in economic downturns but the way to recover the economy isn't by getting stricter on sales tax that's for sure. If property taxes are that lowthen yeah raise those instead of income.
How about eliminate the sales tax entirely and just focus on the income tax then? Local businesses will then be able to compete better with the internet and revenue will still increase without targeting those who need to spend a greater % of their earnings to survive.
"Kino.to hosted no illicit content itself, but indexed material stored on file-hosters and other streaming services."
Copying and pasting the first paragraphn is 1) misleading 2) an extremely poor way to do a SUMMARY. This is what is missing "GVU states that Kino.to was working closely with the sites that hosted the copyrighted films, and that they profited from commercial partnerships with these companies."
So it was not a SIMPLE linking as the first paragraph make seem to believe.
Even still, why not go after those sites that hosted the films instead?
Historically setting VCRs has been a piece of cake!
I'm 26 I don't know how to use a fax machine, or ANYTHING steam-powered. It's not an issue unique to 2011.
Simply end the sales tax entirely. Then not only is this not an issue anymore it will tip the balances slightly (if only slightly) back towards the local brick and mortar stores, thus raising gains through income taxes. Also it will make your state more attractive to internet retail stores to set up their distribution centers and such there.
maybe not consume the specific movie again, but they will likely pay for future endeavors by the same people. I did not purchase Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, but did buy its sequel as well as Dragon Age and Dragon Age 2 all at release and full price based on my earlier experiences.
It was mentioned above but bears repeating; there is more media out there than anyone could possibly pay for. While there is certainly a subset who don't pay for anything, pretty much everyone else who downloads buys what they can afford and simply downloads the rest.
Illegally downloading is not the crime, illegally uploading it is. Harder to find concrete bulletproof evidence someone distributed or even possessed a complete file unless you downloaded the entire file from that specific peer.
True, but with a clever workaround you can actually make/answer a phone call to an independent third party witness at the time of the crime to prove your alibi.
"Of course, that requires significant ingestion of such iodine in the first place, which most typically comes with significantly contaminated water."
Milk.
Chernobyl results showed that cows eating the contaminated grass had almost all the radioactive iodine in the milk and children who drank that milk got sick.
Apparently 90% of the children thyroid cancers could have been prevented if the government had issued a warning not to drink milk.
There are many games released in Japan that will take a long time to reach any western markets, if they do at all. Sure it's because of localization more so than distribution channels but it's still a wait.
the rest of the UN nations are doing what exactly to support this? Sure the security council nations have the highest obligation but there's no reason Italy, Netherlands, Greece, South Africa, and a multitude of other nations can't get involved. Every cruise missile we fire is a million damn dollars and we're friggin broke as it is.
Then how about a UN force made up of Indians and East Asians? Maybe Brazil could contribute some troops. The wealthier caucasian countries could contribute materials and air/naval assets.
If Jon Stewart found it so offensive, he probably shouldn't have played it on his TV-14 rated television show.

Combine it with google's cars that can drive themselves though....
You can easily replace Saddam in your statement with a dozen different world leaders. How many wars should we start?

Kamchatka and Vladivostok are far more relevant to Russia than Alaska is to the US.
English is not computer code. You can use just one "=" symbol for the word "equals"
People with less than 5 digits are clearly out of touch old fogeys ;)

Why did I ever reduce my threshold...
The toy industry disagrees.

To think just 6 or 7 years ago I was buying every season of DS9 at close to $100 a pop on DVD in terrible cases that have mostly broken.
Just bring back the microsoft optical trackball explorer.

Luckily not as much of an issue in Japan.
There are many games released in Japan that will take a long time to reach any western markets, if they do at all. Sure it's because of localization more so than distribution channels but it's still a wait.
Perhaps then the problem is that we never hear about this in the news stories.

People tend to make great discoveries when looking for something else. The Americas are a good example. Viagra as well.
What is your basis of comparison? Without observing the process occur elsewhere for all we know life evolved very slowly on earth.
