The correct solution to this problem is to harden the networks and stop trusting the client. To do that you need open standards, open APIs and open protocols.
The reason why the carriers hate jailbroken devices is primarily their interest in maintaining walled gardens, tying phones to carriers and make the users on a constant replacement treadmill. In my recent trip to India I find my friends and relatives nonchalantly switching SIM cards to get the best price/service on the same phone. "Vodofone sucks in $town, let me use Aircell. I am out of $metro so let me switch to this statewide provider with better rates". Here I am stuck with two year lock in contracts.

That will give cues to the birds about the real position of the airplane. They will avoid us, we don't have to avoid them.

Boeing 747's original design was to compete for the defense contract for the Strategic Air Command heavy cargo aircraft. Lockheed won the competition and got to build C5-J. Boeing lost the military contract but converted the design to civilian use and won the bigger market. What tipped the scale for Lockheed was that C5J had a low cargo floor and flip up nose that allowed it to deliver 60 ton tanks with its internal ramps. Boeing's low wing, high floor design needed infrastructure support to unload such cargo.
With hindsight getting the civilian market was the bigger prize.

The suite will NOT force Apple to preinstall and sell MacOS on thirdparty hardware. It just means if you buy the software you can install it on thirdparty hardware.
At best, if you find some hardware vendor breaking compatibility with Linux intentionally, you might be able to write a driver yourself for it. The vendor would not be able stop your alternative driver from being installed and used.

Social security number has never been designed to be a fool proof identity verification authentication tool. High time the government site get hacked and all the SSNs of ALL Americans are out in the public. Then the onus will be on the banks and others to actually verify people's identity and come up with real authentication mechanisms. Right now it is a joke. Any Tom Dick or Harry can impersonate me if he knows my name and my SSN. How ridiculous is the expectation that I have to take efforts to keep my SSN secret, while the banks and credit issuers have no obligations to check if the applicant is really who he/she says who he/she is?

H1Bs can become citizens. If their employers sponsor them for the green card, they can become permanent residents. Green card holders are eligible to apply for citizenship after 5 years.
There are two kinds of H1Bs. Ones with really good skills who usually demand green card sponsorship as part of the employment contract and they eventually become citizens.
Once the H1B gets a green card, they can leave the company too. So depending on their talent, productivity and replacement they usually get stock options and such to encourage them to stay on. In my company the guy who made maximum money by stock options (not counting the founders) was originally a H1B! (eventually he did become a citizen)
The other kind does not have enough talent or uniqueness. Their employers usually dont offer green card sponsorships and the employees are not all that rare and so they cant/dont demand it.
I too got my green card through my employer and now I am a citizen. I continue stay with my original employer.

IT is true, if all the applications used the approved and correct APIs. But programmers being programmers, a few will hard wire a call to InternetExplorer. And MSFT being MSFT, it is lenient and fault-tolerant about the violation of API protocols and allow it to fall through and work anyway.
MSFT will offer to remove IE, and it even might remove it. All the applications that hard wired IE will be broken. Most of these crummy applications will be mission critical for many corporations. Windows-sans-IE will have no takers and everyone will blame the stupid Euro bureucrats for meddling in business and being heavy handed.
Well, the situation is not serious in the browser arena anymore. PCs are not the only devices using browsers. MSFT does not have a monopoly on the handheld and other devices market. So IE dominance in browser arena in Win boxes is not an issue any more.
The real fight is in ODF/OOXML where MSFT is winning by fighting rear guard action. Another important area is Active Directory. EU monopoly action is typical Govt cavalry arriving after the battle has been fought.
