I've been using MS Money since 1995 and am currently on the 2004 version. It works great, and I can usually get a version for free after rebate with TaxCut.
I do worry about how the program will be supported long term, since having all that data available is a great supplemental memory bank (When did we take that vacation? When did we buy that thing? Where did we buy that thing from?).
I've been doing VPN every Friday now for 3.5 years through Comcast with no issues. Very reliable -- I've never had a day when I couldn't get in and had to go to the office.
I saw a show where he had some member of Bushes campaign staff on and he was pleading to get Bush on there. He said, "I'll be a total pussy." So it isn't just with Kerry -- he'd be fair and play easy with Bush also.
"They actually do talk, then. They use words, ideas, concepts?"
"Oh, yes. Except they do it with meat."
"I thought you just told me they used radio."
"They do, but what do you think is on the radio? Meat sounds. You know how when you slap or flap meat, it makes a noise? They talk by flapping their meat at each other. They can even sing by squirting air through their meat."
It's a silly thing to say because it has nothing to do with "politics." Nothing to do with what is normally referred to in discussions of "political correctness." I don't think it became "interactive fiction" because of some people's squeamish concerns about propriety.
webMethods and Tibco are two apps that come to mind (maybe because I work with them). These are major integration tools. Both server and client-side development pieces are in Java.
I enjoyed Perdido Street Station and The Scar, but didn't like American Gods at all. Mieville created worlds that I wanted to learn more about, and had characters I was interested in. I thought Gods was simply boring. It was an ordeal making it to page 200, where I finally put it down. I don't even want to give it away - it may end up going in the trash, which is normally unthinkable for me.
But it sounds like the original poster was using some kind of scheme that wasn't universal anyway (not that I understood exactly what he was doing). If you're going to be setting up some other system manually, and it's a smaller scale operation (perhaps for B2B use), you could compare thumbprints on the SSL certs to make sure people are on the up and up. (Whereas comparing thumbrints wouldn't be very practical for Amazon.com.)
adverb [prob. blend of irrespective and regardless] (ca. 1912)
(nonstand : regardless)
Usage
'Irregardless' originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

It also feels a lot more personal and intrusive than e-mail or UseNet spam.
Probably only because it's new. I wasn't around in the early days of Usenet, but I think people were pretty outraged when spamming started. Same with email. We just become inured to it over time. Whenever spam appears in a place we were previously free from it, it seems more obnoxious.
Yep. The "real" news organizations provide grist for the blogger's mill.
Interesting post, but are you saying books will always be around because they are more useful for transporting in to the past? :-)
Yes, I'm sure that's the reason you are unemployed.
How about let's say "reduced" or something that a normal human being would say?
Or maybe you would plan ahead, and transfer the shows ahead of time?

Hmmm, after reading this article: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/g/ archive/2004/12/09/gadgetgap.DTL&type=tech, I just don't think we're going to compare favorably to the Japanese in just about any consumer tech category.
Paradroid, Impossible Mission... good. No Raid on Bungling Bay? Not sure if I can justify the purchase.

Well, don't be shy, tell us what works better.
(plase mod this funny, its a joke)
You're a sad, little man.
In any case, it made me think of a great Terry Bisson short story:
They're Made Out Of Meat
Excerpt:
"They actually do talk, then. They use words, ideas, concepts?"
"Oh, yes. Except they do it with meat."
"I thought you just told me they used radio."
"They do, but what do you think is on the radio? Meat sounds. You know how when you slap or flap meat, it makes a noise? They talk by flapping their meat at each other. They can even sing by squirting air through their meat."
Or you can follow the instructions at http://www.nextgenss.com/advisories/winampheap.txt to disable xm at a lower layer. (This is from a link from the techworld article.)

What is the recommendation?
John's POPFile. But yes, it works great!
What does product placement in Bladerunner have to do with historical shows?

Who says you have to pay for an SSL cert? Can't you just generate your own with OpenSSL (or whatever it's called)?

Supposed to make money, but I wouldn't go so far as to say they should stop at nothing, which is what the original poster said.
